Top 10 Camping Essentials You’ll Wish You Packed

It can be stressful to prepare for a camping trip, especially with a large family, and may result in forgetting some essential items. To ensure a successful and highly adventurous trip, make sure to prepare and follow a checklist so that you can stay organized and not skip or miss some of the necessary items. While one usually tends to remember the tents, sleeping bags, and food, it’s the smaller things that can cause panic and create chaos in the overall camping experience. Hence here is our list of the top ten commonly forgotten camping items.

1. Portable chairs

After a long and tiring day of hiking or walking, it can become uncomfortable to sit on the ground. That’s where one realizes the importance of portable chairs as they can offer a brilliant and comfortable seating option during camping.

Designer: Trippy Outdoor

The Tripster is an innovative portable chair by Trippy Outdoor as it is convenient, easy to use, compact, and can be easily stored. The chair’s design features a smart assembly mechanism that transforms it from a comfortable high-back outdoor chair into two numbers of wooden pieces for easy storage. Its design focuses on essential elements like the seat and the backrest. This lightweight and sturdy chair offers a stable seating option.

2. Extra Towels

Do not forget to bring extra towels for your camping trip as one can never anticipate the weather conditions that one may face in the campground. While one may remember to pack one towel for each family member, there can be unpredictable scenarios like constant rain that may make the existing towels difficult to dry.

Designer: Taisei

Japarcana Imabari towels are inspired by Japanese culture and design principles and are crafted using time-tested weaving techniques with high-quality cotton, and they adhere to strict quality standards. They provide excellent water absorption, and soft texture, and are highly durable. Japarcana towels are available in two varieties namely Yudono which is a light and durable option and Omiyage which is a thicker and more luxurious choice made with Superior Pima Cotton.

3. Gloves

Gloves form an essential part of a camping trip so that one does not wake up shivering during a camping trip. Even if it is summertime, the early mornings can be cold and chilly, making gloves one of the most valuable items that can help you keep warm.

Designer: Adrien Beyk of Quanta Vici

With climate change and unpredictable weather patterns, it is important to look out for flexible and smart winter clothing. Quanta Vici’s thermal clothing lineup offers various options for staying warm. Not only their gloves but also their jackets and vests provide the freedom to select the desired level of warmth. This can be achieved through a smartphone app or its built-in thermostat. Note that despite the tech-driven features, the apparel is fashionable and recycled polyester is used to create these animal-free vegan-friendly leather gloves and jackets.

4. Extra Pair of Shoes

Many people forget to pack an extra pair of camping shoes which is important considering the uncertainty about the conditions that one may encounter at the campground. For instance, the soil can be muddy leaving the shoes wet and dirty.

Designer: Terrein

Hiking trails are fun but they often pose the risk of ankle twisting or spraining, making durable boots with excellent traction essential. Terrein, a German start-up, has developed the Terrein Ascent boot with Betterguards’ adaptive ankle protection technology. This high-ankle boot reduces the risk of injuries and offers constant ankle support. It comes with a hydraulic ankle protection system, featuring a piston and Velcro strap that safeguards against twisting.

5. A Complete First-Aid Kit

Prioritizing safety is a must; hence it is crucial to pack a well-equipped first-aid kit before embarking on any camping trip. Make sure to pack a complete and up-to-date first-aid kit for every camping excursion and make it a point to include your prescription medications.

Designer: Jason Lee

For easy access to your first aid supplies, use an organized first aid box where all the medicines are easy to access. Consider a box with clear slots that allow you to see the location of each item and are easy to refill.

6. Headlamp

Never forget to pack a headlamp before embarking on your enjoyable trip as it comes into play as an essential survival tool after sunset.

Designer: Mpowerd

The Luci Beam by Mpowerd is a 2-in-1 solar-powered headlamp and flashlight which is solar-powered, it has a water-resistant body and can withstand and function in various external weather conditions. The product provides around 300 lumens of brightness and is perfect for illuminating paths and trails. The best part of this device is that it can easily switch from handheld to headlamp, enables hands-free operation, and can be solar-powered or charged via a USB.

7. Bug Spray

The bug spray is one of the most important products that is required while camping and it should be strong enough to repel bugs and mosquitoes throughout outdoor activities such as hiking, sleeping, camp setup, and cooking, just to name a few.

Designer: VIBIS Design

Instead of a bug spray, one can also repel mosquitoes effortlessly with VesperGuard. It is a compact device that can create a 30 ft protective bubble around you simply at the flip of a switch for nearly 16 hours. Its portable design makes it perfect for indoor or outdoor use and it is convenient to use with USB-C charging.

8. Binoculars

Outdoor camping is the perfect time and opportunity to establish your connection with the natural ecosystem. So, invest in a reliable pair of binoculars that can offer optimum views.

Designer: karnswork

Use your binoculars for watching birds, stars, wildlife, and nature, and have a fulfilling outdoor camping experience. Although binoculars have gradually improved in magnification and quality, the Zoomers Binoculars are a step ahead because of their sleek, unified appearance complemented with advanced features.

9. Umbrella

It’s better to be prepared for rain as one may have to step out of their tent even if it rains. So, make sure to pack umbrellas as they are convenient to use for short walks, to the campsite’s facilities, or your vehicle.

Designer: Mabu

The Umbrella Lantern is one of the best rainy-day companions that combines an umbrella with built-in LED lights. Its lights can be switched on with a simple button and it can function as a useful tool for illuminating poorly lit areas and preventing a potential fall or slip in the rain.

10. Thermos

Your camping trip will be incomplete without sipping cold water or enjoying a cup of tea or coffee on your own or with friends and family. So, purchase the ideal thermos, and do not forget to carry it along.

Designer: Ringo

The Ringo Bottle is a brilliant invention that combines a water bottle with a built-in MagSafe-compatible iPhone stand. The bottle comes with a ring-shaped element on the top that doubly functions as a handle and also allows one to attach the phone magnetically. The best part is that it provides a stable stand for filming videos or making FaceTime calls with family and friends during camping.

Use these tips to improve the efficiency of your camping experience. Additionally, check online checklists and do not carry unnecessary items like excessive clothing, electronics, and other bulky belongings that may take up valuable space.

In this way, the down will stay dry and thus keeps its very high insulation capacity. With the unique mix of DownWool we achieve optimal insulation and a perfect dry sleeping climate with a low weight. The sleeping climate is decisive for sleep quality. The deeper and more relaxed your sleep, the more rested you will be the next morning.

Love coffee? Protect it with this military-grade coffee kit designed for camping!

If there was an emergency, I would instantly protect my dog and my coffee. So if you are anything like me then the BruTrek Expedition Coffee Kit is essential for you! Planetary Design has created one of the world’s most rugged, portable, coffee brewing kits for modern-day explorers who need more than just a french press. This coffee kit has a full range of accessories and looks like it is ready to be air-dropped into a war zone and I just know it will survive with the 29-L Zarges case that protects it.

The brewing range comes in a sturdy, custom foam cushioned, lightweight German aluminum box which is popular for overlanding and can be neatly stacked over other similar-sized Zarges boxes or strapped to the outside of a vehicle if needed. It is designed to keep dust and moisture out, and it is also IGBC-certified bear-resistant according to Zarges USA – so no aggressive grizzlies will be stealing your coffee although, before coffee, some of us might be like angry bears ourselves! The kit includes a large 32-oz (946-ml) BruTrek French press with a more group-friendly option feauturing a handle and a spout. The french press comes with all the gear needed to store and pour the perfect cup outdoors – four 8-oz cups, an 8-oz Airscape air-lockout coffee canister, a small “CarGo Can” container for sugar and a coffee scoop!

Of course, you’ll need to bring along the actual coffee and water, as well as a pot and stove to heat that water up. Those who prefer to grind their own fresh beans every morning might also want to carry something like the VSSL Java.

With an MSRP of US$500, the BruTrek Expedition Coffee Kit will very likely price out many a casual camper, and it’s definitely more than we’ll be spending for Father’s Day this year (sorry, Dad). Still, it’s clearly one of the most rugged, neatly packaged go-anywhere coffee solutions out there, and that Zarges case alone retails for just over $260, so we certainly won’t be surprised to see overland adventurers strapping these kits to their six-figure expedition rigs in short order. A good cup of fresh coffee in the middle of nowhere can prove rather priceless, after all.

Those looking for something similar for a fraction of the cost might consider the basic BruTrek Camp Coffee Kit, which packages together the French press, two cups, Airscape canister and scoop in a soft carry bag for a $213 MSRP (on sale for $154 as of publishing). Or, they could just throw their existing inexpensive coffee gear and outdoor mugs into a Rubbermaid box and call it a day.

This foldable dual stovetop works in double time to save space and provide a full meal while camping!

So, you got the perfect off-road campsite in Big Sur. A view of the Pacific ocean is only a stone’s throw away and it’s your first morning of the trip. There’s a vista a couple of yards in front of the tent and you can’t shake the image of yourself with a steaming cup of coffee and breakfast sandwich filled with eggs, cheese, bacon, you know, the works. It’s paradise, just you, a cup of coffee, your current read, the roaring Pacific, and a breakfast sandwich to fuel your hike later in the day. But then, the kid’s tent moves and the whole family’s awake. Looks like you’ll be making breakfast for five. We’ve all been there. Big trips with a crowd of hungry mouths to feed.

Beom-Seok Lee knows the story all too well, which inspired camping cookware design produced in the style of Korea’s popular kitchen lifestyle brand, Haatz Co. Lee’s induction dual stovetop was constructed to make those tiring, family trips a little bit more relaxing and easygoing because that’s what camping’s all about if you’re doing it right. Eating is a necessary part of any family trip and cooking for the whole family can sometimes take up that prime golden hour time that should be spent fireside. The design for the induction dual stovetop provides two induction surfaces suited for various kinds of cookware and less time spent actually cooking. Since the family was at the center of this design, Lee incorporated a safety sensor that must alert users of surfaces that might be too hot to touch and an intuitive interface that younger folks can understand just as well as the adults. For instance, a sliding temperature control touch bar allows users to increase or decrease the temperature for either induction surface.

The stovetop uses a classic folding mechanism to make the product portable, which means the overall thickness of the induction stovetop is a compact 4 inches. Opening up just like a book, the stovetop, once un-latched and expanded, reaches a total cooking area of 31.5 inches, with one 9-inch, and one 6-inch induction round. The induction stovetop comes equipped with a 220V power cord which provides the stovetop with electric power for operation. Lee decided to make this stovetop design electric because nowadays, many campers are choosing glamping and car-camping over roughing it, which could give way to additional eco-friendly means of cooking while off-the-grid. The additional induction surface might set Lee’s design above other preexisting designs on the market because it allows for more efficient food preparation, which allows for more family time and more time spent drinking coffee and reading on that vista I can’t stop thinking about.

Glamping gets a sustainable upgrade with what designers call ‘architectural ecotourism’!

The O’Reilly’s campground is nestled in Queensland’s lush Lamington National Park and is an example of how glamping can be eco-friendly if we make the right design choices! The project shines a light on architecture-inspired ecotourism with a fully functioning campsite equipped with all amenities. O’Reilly is different because it was created keeping sustainable building practices at its core so as to not disturb the pristine landscape but at the same time let guests be immersed in it.

The campground includes buildings featuring a kitchen, common gathering spaces, a fire pit and more. All the facilities were carefully constructed by consciously choosing to make it environmentally friendly – lightweight structures used sustainably sourced timber, an on site sewer treatment to avoid adding waste to natural water bodies, collecting rain water, having passive solar access, cross ventilation to reduce power consumption, growing and preserving vegetation and more.

Guests will be able to enjoy an authentic camping experience without the hassle of bringing their own equipment (such as safari tents, linen, firewood and food) or pretending to be on an episode of the Survivor. The campground has universal design so it is accessible and inclusive of all groups of people who want to spend time in nature. Guests can choose to stay in glamping safari tents or bring their RVs as the site provides a place for both powered and unpowered vehicles.

O’Reilly’s architectural design was the bridge to help facilitate a deeper connection to the environment and that commitment is seen in every element of the campground – skeletal structure resembles a tree canopy so it can provide shelter while protecting the views of the surrounding mountain ranges and the interior elements are filled with linear structural design details to represent the linear patterns of the surrounding rainforests! The glamping site is an embodiment of a beautiful, respectful and playful relationship between humans and nature.

This modern indoor BBQ grill is inspired by the mechanism of an air purifier!

Missing the BBQ parties during game nights and holidays in quarantine? This conceptual BBQ grill, Campin, makes it possible to still enjoy it indoors (perhaps with fewer people, and if it is just yourself then you won’t even have to share food!) while following the COVID-19 restrictions about outdoor activities and gatherings. BBQ parties are almost a cultural tradition to celebrate events big and small, and while traditionally one has to have a backyard for it, you can now enjoy it thanks to Campin within the comfort of your home without the need for the extra outdoor space – a huge blessing for the urban demographic who is cooped up inside in the pandemic.

It has two core parts – the BBQ bowl at the top and the bottom base. The BBQ bowl has a metal container that houses the whole setup including the intake vent, a charcoal bowl, a grill, and a lid. These pieces are modular and can be separated for easy cleaning and management. There is an LED located under the BBQ bowl that illuminates the lower side and making it look like there is a real fire for the ‘right vibes’.  Campin lets you grill with a charcoal fire by using the specific charcoal bowl for that authentic taste. The smoke is sucked in through the intake vent outside the grill and it is purified and discharged through the filter structure inside the body – the mechanism is similar to an air purifier. The lower part in front of the base includes an outlet to discharge the purified air.

Another thoughtful detail that saves space and reduces mess is the little storage compartment in the bottom – all sauces, seasonings, and dips can be put in here so there is no need for extra counter space or a runner who has to keep going back and forth to the kitchen. Campin can be charged when not in use via the charging port on the rear end of the base making it functional and portable. With this product, you won’t need an invite to a backyard BBQ anymore or have to wait for restrictions to ease up, just fire up that grill and celebrate that you made it through yet another day of 2020.

This solar powered water purifier & pump fits in your backpack to create the ultimate camping experience!

Let’s up our camping game to level ‘glamping’ with this solar-powered water purifier and pump! You never have to worry about carrying cartons of bottled water and calculating if that is enough for the group for all days. No math and no increasing plastic waste when we have GoSun Flow – a portable water purifier that is also a sink and provides water for shower all while storing the solar energy that it creates.

The GoSun Flow is made keeping in mind that it is small enough to fit into a backpack so it doesn’t add to the minimal essentials one has to carry during their trip. It uses solar energy to filter 99.99% of pathogens from water and is able to pump 1 liter of clean water per minute! Apart from providing safe drinking water it also doubles up as a portable handwashing station and hot shower. Having a hot shower (the one thing you miss the most during camping) is such an upgrade because that means we don’t have to jump into a cold water body, everyone knows the right temperature of hot water in the showers is basically therapy for your soul.

It is super easy to get this energy-efficient appliance running – place the intake hose into any water source (except salt water), plug in the pump, and it will automatically start filtering the water. To use the faucet or shower, simply clamp the faucet and flip on the pump! “The Flex Faucet’s integrated clamp can open to over two and a quarter inches (58mm) so it attaches anywhere: branches, tables, tailgates, fences, etc.  The flexible head can twist, bend, and point water wherever you need it” explains the team.

The filter lasts for 1,000 liters of filtration and can be easily replaced. The camping appliance uses an innovative 3-stage cartridge filter to remove 99.99% of pathogens. The first filter is a polypropylene filter disc that removes large particles like dirt, rust, and sand. The second filter is a high-efficiency carbon filter that absorbs hazardous chemicals and heavy metals. And the third filter is a nano aluminum fiber filter that creates an electropositive charge in a labyrinth of fibers to trap and kill the tiniest particles and organisms in your water.

To make it effortless, GoSun Flow uses a USB-powered pump that does the work for you and provides a flow of water anywhere you want and that too within a minute – say goodbye to manual pumping although it did provide a good arm workout. The pump is powered by a power bank that can pump over 100 gallons of water on a single charge. The best part? You can recharge it with the integrated solar panel that plugs right into the power bank. GoSun has always believed in designing products that don’t require fuel or resupply and this water pump + purifier is another amazing addition to their range of essentials that keep you prepared for emergencies.

With GoSun Flow you can have access to clean water anywhere. It is not only essential for camping but also allows you to sanitize yourself when there is a shortage – think of remote medical camps where the rural areas don’t have access to clean water. It is so much more than a hot shower when you are out in the woods, it is using the source that gives Earth life to give you life.

A water-fueled power generator that instantly rescues you in an emergency

“Happiness can be found even in the darkest of times if only one remembers to turn on the light,” said Albus Dumbledore. Now they had a spell called Lumos if they couldn’t turn on the light, but what would we do outside Hogwarts? Simple, we would add saltwater to HydraCell – technology is not magic, but it sure feels like it sometimes!

HydraCell was designed to give you instant power if you were outdoors or had an emergency. The water-activated fuel cell can charge your devices and provide light for days – a must-have for campers. It is also eco-friendly, all the waste generated from creating the HydraCell is 100% biodegradable and doesn’t add to toxic landfill waste like most flashlights. When you need power during a storm or outdoors we use batteries but are they really reliable? More often than not, batteries are dead, or faulty they haven’t been used, and while you can recharge some during a power cut that is not an option. HydraCell fills this negative gap that batteries have with positive innovation. It can provide up to 100 hours of light and charge up to 10 phones with a single charge plate.

Apart from providing 10x better performance than regular batteries, it also has a 25x longer shelf life. HydraCell is not only for outdoor enthusiasts but a great tool for first responders as well. With the way 2020 is going, this saltwater-fuelled power cube should make it into all of your emergency kits!
