Pikachu Centipede Body Pillows: Gotta Catch ‘Em Aaaaah!

What has a Pikachu head, entirely too many body segments, and nobody asked for? If you answered a Pikachu centipede body pillow, then you’re correct. Available from Chinese online retailer AliExpress, falling asleep with one of these ‘Very Long Pikachu Insect Plushes’ can almost guarantee a poor night’s sleep filled entirely with nightmares.

Available in four sizes (85cm, 1.1m, 1.4m, and 1.7m), the Creepachus cost between $21 and $90 depending on length, and I have the sneaking suspicion they’re not actually officially licensed products from Nintendo. Or a product that should exist at all for that matter.

Who comes up with this stuff? ‘You know what the world needs? Pikachu centipede body pillows,’ somebody actually thought to themselves before going the distance and having them manufactured. I mean that’s something I wouldn’t imagine even in my wildest dreams, and let me tell you – I’ve had some wild dreams. The things I’ve seen! But never ever a Pikachu centipede body pillow, just so we’re clear.

Intellivision’s Amico is the latest retro console revival

Intellivision, the video game maker that didn't survive the '80s, is back and ready to build something new on top of gaming nostalgia. After teasing the idea earlier this year, the company has announced plans for a new console called the Amico -- one...

Build Your Own Creepy Robot Centipede

Are you in need of a creepy robot centipede? Sure, we all are. Well, here ya go. Japanese toy maker Tamiya now sells a wonderfully weird centipede robot construction kit. It’s pretty creepy, and pretty awesome. But just because you can build this thing, should you? Centipedes are icky! The best place for them is the bottom of your boot if you ask me.

The company usually makes RC cars and trucks, plus educational toys, but now they’re making a robot creepy-crawly too. This one is based on a centipede robot created by the Osaka University’s Graduate School of Engineering. It is a nightmare on 18 legs. Believe it or not, a single motor powers all of the parts.

If you live in Japan it will be easy to find. This and a million other creepy robot toys. For those of us in North America, you can find it at Japan Trend Shop or over on eBay.

I say you buy like 50 of these and make a life-size centipede game based on the classic Atari arcade game. I say that mostly because I want to shoot at these things all day as they creep toward me. Then shoot again. And again. Until I get the high score. I will get the high score!

Tiny LEGO Arcade Cabinets: Insert Brick to Play

If I had a Bitcoin for every quarter I dropped into an arcade machine back in the 1980s, I would have been on the top of Forbes’ list of wealthiest people. Alas, my coins are long gone, pumped into the bellies of Dig Dug, BattleZone, and Tempest machines. If you have a fond place in your heart for classic arcade machines like I do, check out these sweet LEGO arcade cabinets.

BuildBetterBricks makes these teensy, minimal arcade cabinets that are perfectly scaled for your minifigs. Despite their minimal use of bricks, they do a great job capturing the spirit of the classics, like Q*Bert (Q*Brick), Centipede (Brickpede), and Frogger (Froggy). Each one comes in kit form, complete with cabinet artwork and screen graphics decals.

Best of all, these tiny machines are just $7 each, so you can build out a complete arcade for your minifigs to hang out at without a whole lot of spare change. They also have a miniature claw machine and a miniature football table so you can complete your mini arcade. Drop by the BuildBetterBricks Etsy shop to check out the complete collection.

Play Atari’s ‘Centipede’ on a tiny, authentic arcade cabinet

There's something special to playing a vintage arcade cabinet, but it's usually impractical to own one. It's no mean feat to lug a gigantic machine into your home, and you'll probably have to restore it to recapture its glory. Atari and New Wave Toys...

Dude Restores ’80s Centipede Arcade Cabinet and I Want to Play

I loved the arcades back in my youth, at least when my dad would let me raid his stash of quarters and go. I had a particular penchant for Centipede mostly because it had a trackball rather than joysticks, and for some reason that was awesome to elementary school me. A dude named Tony Temple laid hands on an original Atari Centipede arcade cabinet and decided to restore the thing to pristine condition.

The cabinet was in decent, but rough shape and needed lots of cleaning. He took a few pictures to show us how the process works. I’d have rather had a video, but whatevs.

It looks like some of the steps required soap and water, something that was strictly banned from the arcades.

At least the awesome cabinet graphics were in good shape and survived the restoration. The front portion where the coin holder goes had to be replaced, however. Check out the completed cabinet below, and the full restoration process on Tony Temple’s website.

Make Your Desk Glow with a Mighty Marquee Desk Light

Mighty Marquee Desk Light 01

Lamps that shed white light onto your office aren’t good for expressing how much of a geek you really are. The Mighty Marquee Desk Light by Dumpsty, on the other hand, can give your workmates a pretty good idea about the things you like.

At 9″W x 3″H x 2″L, the Mighty Marquee Desk Light is big enough to provide you plenty of light exactly when you need it. After all, it relies on 15 LEDs to illuminate the area. Since LEDs can help you save a lot of energy, you won’t even have to worry about the bill. Furthermore, this particular light box doesn’t connect straight to a power outlet. Instead, it relies on a microUSB cable to supply power either from a power bank, laptop, desktop computer, or charger. Overall, it’s an extremely portable device that proves to be very convenient, as you can use it anytime, anywhere.

Probably the best part about this light box is that it comes with three graphic rectangles designed to remind you either of one of the most famous movie franchises in the world, or some of most popular console and arcade games from the ’80s. It should be noted that these rectangles are only applied to one side of the light box, so it’s probably best to place it with its back to a wall. The rectangles are attached using magnets, and can be replaced anytime you want. Since it’s LEDs we’re talking about, any heat emitted by the light box is negligible.

The first rectangle, pictured below, is a reference to the Atari 2600 Star Wars game from 1983, the very definition of a psychedelic trip. Some game, huh? With TIE fighters in one corner and an X-Wing in the other, you have something to represent each side of the Force.

Next, there’s a Donkey Kong graphic that has the mighty gorilla and Princess Peach on one side and Mario trying to evade barrels in the other side, with a noticeable Nintendo badge slapped in-between.

Not at last, there’s a Centipede rectangle that’s supposed to remind people of yet another Atari arcade game. However, this might be too obscure of a reference for all people to get, so it depends on how geeky your coworkers are.

Included in the package are the Marquee Light Box, a microUSB power cable, as well as the Donkey Kong, Star Wars and Centipede graphics. That’s everything you need to turn your desk into a shrine for geeks.

Within the next 8 hours you can gen the Mighty Marquee Desk Light from Walyou Deals for $49.99, a 43% discount from the original price of $89. After these 8 hours pass, you’ll only be able to buy it at the full retail price from somewhere else, so take advantage of this unique chance while you still can. Your desk certainly deserves a lamp to put it in a geeky light!
