Chia-Saurus Rex: Grow Your Own Dinosaur

You can never own too many Chia Pets – just ask my aunt. I’m pretty sure she owns every single one ever made. Granted most of the plants have long since died and they’re all just bald terracotta figurines now, but that doesn’t stop her from proudly displaying them all. And while not it’s not from the official Chia Pet brand, I bet this $22 Chia-Saurus Rex Planter from FireBox would be a welcome addition to her collection.

The Chia-Saurus Rex comes with everything you need to grow yourself a t-rex with a bushy green bodysuit in just one to two weeks. That’s fast! For reference, I’ve been waiting 40 years to be able to grow a mustache. God willing, 41 will finally be the year.

The company encourages you to harvest the chia sprouts after they’ve grown a bit, then add them to a salad, soup, or sandwiches to add a little tang. Then buy some more chia seeds from the grocery store and grow your edible dinosaur coat all over again. The fun never ends! I mean, provided this is what you consider fun. Otherwise, the fun never began at all.

The Mandalorian Grogu with Egg Canister Cat Grass Chia Pet: Wait, Is This The Way?

It doesn’t matter what the product is, if it’s Mandalorian-themed, people are going to buy it. Case in point: this Chia Cat Grass Planter featuring Grogu with the egg canister he wanted to eat from so badly. Did anybody else wonder what those giant eggs tasted like? I mean Grogu made them look pretty good.

Don’t have a cat? There are also two regular Grogu Chia Pet planters available: one of him posed with raised hand using The Force, and another standing in Mando’s satchel. Available for pre-order from Entertainment Earth (shipping in October), each Chia Pet costs $20 and is sure to let guests know that, yes, you will buy absolutely any Star Wars product available for sale.

Of course, these Chia Pets are in addition to the already existing Grogu in hover stroller one. Hey, you can never have too many Mandalorian Chia Pets – that’s my motto. Granted it’s not a very good motto, but I’m still going to get the tattoo because I’m committed.

Bob Ross Chia Pet

Bob Ross was best known for his calm demeanor, prolific painting skills and of course his perfectly permed hair. The latter of which makes him ideal to be transformed into the Bob Ross Chia Pet. Fun fact: Bob actually had straight hair but had it permed even though he didn’t really like that afro style. He had wanted to save money on haircuts but then it became his trademark and he was basically stuck with it. That’s what we here at Craziest Gadgets like to call, “not a mistake, just a happy accident”. And we’re all better for it.

You could take the Joy of Painting a little literally here and actually paint the planter, or just let it grow out naturally. There’s no incorrect way of painting, just go with how you feel, paint what you want, where you want, how you want. As Bob Ross would say “there’s nothing wrong with having a tree as your friend” (or at least the box quotes him as saying that anyway). And there’s nothing wrong with having a chia as your friend.

Rick and Morty, Gremlins, and Golden Girls Chia Pets Growing for Geeky Green Thumbs

Did you hear that collectibles company NECA bought the company that makes Chia Pets? Me either. Apparently, it happened back in February. Well, now we know the reason for that purchase. It’s because they want to apply their mad sculpting skills to unleash a bunch of geek-themed Chia Pets on us. So if you like plants that look like other things, you are going to love what NECA has in store for you.

You can expect to see Stranger Things, Ghostbusters, Golden Girls, Gremlins, Predator, and Rick and Morty Chia Pets coming your way soon. We don’t know when these topiaries are arriving or how much they will cost, but you’ll want to clear some room on your shelves for these.

Among the new designs of Chia Pet that NECA has teased, the mockups of The Golden Girls – including clay versions of Sophia, Dorothy, Rose, and Blanche sporting green afros – will undoubtedly be some of its most popular sellers.

The only problem with NECA’s plans? The fact that you have to get Gizmo wet. It’s like they’ve never seen the movies. I won’t be buying that one.
