This cat furniture system features multifunctional modules for cats and their humans both to enjoy!

Me;ow is a modular cat furniture system that features multifunctional modules for humans and cats to enjoy.

The feline urge to scratch the first piece of furniture in the home you see—cats have an instinctual urge to scratch in order to express certain emotions like excitement or stress, to mark objects with their scent, or just to stretch.

Unfortunately, that instinct is usually taken out on our sofas, armchairs, and wooden furniture. In response, many designers have been conceptualizing modular, feline-friendly furniture that looks right at home in any modern living room, not just the cat’s den.

Me;ow, one such modular cat furniture design, takes feline-friendly furniture and makes it palatable for human taste too. Comprised of multiple, colorful sofa modules, Me;ow features differently shaped cushions that link together to form various furniture configurations. The different pieces of Me;ow also have integrated cat-specific features that encourage your cat to get down with their feline urges to their heart’s content.

On one rectangular module that can doubly be used as a seat rest for humans, cats can enjoy an embedded scratching board to paw away at while their human relaxes on the couch. Another cylindrical module can attach to the seat rest module and function as an armrest while providing a fun tunnel in which cats can lounge or play. Then, standalone modules work as buffers between the multifunctional pieces to provide more cushion space for both you and your cat. Me;ow even features a side table module with an integrated bed below the tabletop where cats can get their snooze on.

The colorful modules all link together with a secure fastening mechanism for extended and durable playtime. Equipped with a climbing system, Me;ow also comes with freestanding modules that can mount on any wall to provide a space for your cat to romp and jump a safe distance away from the ever-so scratchable furniture.

Designed for cats, this magnetic modular climbing wall system is for your pets of all sizes and ages!

Nyanpeki is a modular climbing wall system for cats that boasts an easy assembly and removal process, complete with magnetized felt components that provide jumping spots and hideouts for your cat to enjoy throughout the day and night.

There’s hardly anything more exciting for cat owners than new furniture designed for their feline friends. From scratching towers to chirping bird toys, and from cardboard papers to tissue paper, cats have no problem finding ways to entertain themselves. So when product designs come out that encourage cats to climb and scratch to their paw’s delight, cats make a jungle gym out of them.

The Nyanpeki, which translates to Cat Wall, from LIXIL Corporation is a modular climbing wall system that incorporates hiding spots and felt scratching posts for cats to play and rest for the rest of their days. Built for cat owners to create a unique playground for their cats, the Nyanpeki is formed from a magnetized assembly system that can just as easily attach to walls as it can be removed.

Designed for cats of all shapes, sizes, ages, and health conditions, the Nyanpeki can be adjusted throughout its shelf life to adapt to your cat’s changing needs. As your cat grows in age, the Nyanpeki’s height can be adjusted to meet your cat’s lumbar movements and changing jumping abilities. Modular by design, consumers can purchase single modules to create endless configurations and add baskets and felt hideouts to preexisting wall systems.

By creating a climbing system that remains on the wall, users will be able to keep their living space free from the clutter that cat toys bring. The modules attach to walls with little to no hardware required, making for an easy assembly and cleanup process. Additionally, each module boasts a load-bearing design to ensure that they have sufficient strength to hold up cats and for cats to jump from module to module. Awarded with recognition from Good Design Awards, the Nyanpeki received the honor in the Hobby goods and pet care supplies category.

This playful bar stool uses rock climbing hand grips as foot rests to meet your feet wherever they fall!

12 Steps is a cushioned chair design that features a system of footrests in the style of hand and foot grips on a climbing rock wall.

It’s no secret that stools are usually more functional than they are comfortable. With a hard seat rest, stools aren’t built for long sitting periods, and depending on your height, your feet are either swinging midair or only just touching the floor below.

Built as a whimsical alternative to the traditional stool, 12 Steps is a new cushioned stool from HaYoung Yoo that comes with built-in footrests designed like rock wall climbing steps so that people of varying heights will have a place where they can prop their feet.

HaYoung Yoo’s 12 Steps stool is built on a six-sided wooden pillar that’s punctuated with climbing holds more commonly found on rock walls. The climbing holds that fill up the stool’s wooden pillar are placed so that users can use them as footrests.

The stools also feature a rotating seat designed similarly to traditional bar stools so that the positioning of the footrests can meet users where their legs fall. The footrests can also function as hand grips for when you might want to move 12 Steps around the room. Ideal for a kid’s classroom or whimsical art studio, 12 Steps was built for comfort, functionality, and playfulness.

Designing innovative chair designs is a tough ask–they’ve been around for as long as any of us can remember. Innovation in new chairs might come through with their multifunctionality, adaptability, or simple comfort. 12 Steps reaches for all three, with an adaptable footrest system, rotating seat rest, and cushioned top.

This modular climbing wall system for kids is designed to adapt to your child’s growing needs!

Endeløs is a modular wall climbing system designed to evolve with your children’s growing needs and hobbies, transforming from a single ladder into a multi-unit storage system.

Kids will find a way to make a jungle gym out of any living room. Entertainment systems transform into boats and couch cushions turn into hopping rocks because the floor is lava. No matter the space, kids will turn it into their very own play place. Inspired by the endless imagination of their own kids, Norway-based KAOS, children and parent-focused goods and furniture brand, created a modular wall system for children to turn into their own climbing wall called Endeløs.

Composed of modular wooden ladders of varying lengths as well as supplementary canvas bookshelves and toy bags, Endeløs is a versatile piece of furniture that evolves with your children’s needs. Consolidated in a flat pack, Endeløs is built from ash wood coated with white pigmented oil, gold brass hardware, and white glass fiber brackets, to ensure easy setup with few materials required for assembly.

When your children are just old enough for climbing (+/- 2 years), Endeløs can mount as a single ladder to any one of your walls. Then, as your children grow, additional ladders can attach to preexisting ladders to enhance the climbing experience and challenge your kid’s physical movement for healthy play. Finally, the canvas bookshelves and toy bags can lock into any step on the ladder system to create a storage space either for your child or the whole family to use depending on the wall ladder’s location.

While traditional climbing walls age out once your kid matures past them, Endeløs is designed to grow alongside your kid’s evolving interests and hobbies. Once the climbing period reaches its final peak, Endeløs functions as another piece of furniture where the whole family can store keepsakes and hang photographs.

Designers: KAOS x Permafrost

Built from ash wood dipped in white pigmented oil, Endeløs uses gold brass hardware and white glass fiber brackets to hold the whole system together.

Delivered as a flat-pack, Endeløs can be assembled easily from home.

Bookshelves and modular desk spaces mature the climbing play system into a working storage space.

Additional ladders can mount alongside each other to create a more dynamic climbing experience.

As your child grows older, the ladder system can function as its own piece of furniture with an evolved function.

Pinball + Air Hockey + Wall Climbing = Climball

Augmented reality is the current hot trend in gaming, largely due to the success of Pokémon GO. Here’s another interesting game that uses augmented reality in a different way. It combines pinball with air hockey and wall climbing. It is called Climball and it looks like a lot of fun.

augmented_reality_wall_1
Augmented Climbing, a Finland-based company, has a great new way to get in shape. Climball projects a ball on a climbing wall which is divided into two sections. These two sections are the playing area for each player. The idea is to kick the virtual ball into the opponent’s court and avoid losing the ball in their own court. Think air hockey, or Pong on a vertical wall.

Since you have to hang onto a climbing wall while playing, this game has got to be more difficult than it looks, but it looks like a lot of fun.

Walls To Climb

I have always been a fan of fitness and find the Nova Climbing Wall an interesting way to integrate workout installation into the interior design of a home. Essentially, Nova is a climbing wall with a compelling interactive interface. The wall includes panels with pattern-cut-outs, which replace the colored holds of regular training walls. Climbing routes, difficulty levels and routes are flexibly indicated through light and can be selected via the Smartphone App.

When not in use, you can create a modern ambiance just by the play of lights.

Nova is a 2014 iF Design Award – Gold Winner.

Watch out for photoshopped sharks, climber! Just inflate it when you need to and deflate when you’re on the move. Get a real gym workout while yachting and laughing at those poor peasants over in the next superyacht over who do not have such luxurious workout equipment while at sea. Peasants!
