Clip-free clipboard is the ultimate minimalist tool for your brightest ideas

There has been a resurgence of interest in paper-based tools like notebooks in the past years, partially thanks to the popularity of productivity systems like the Bullet Journal. But while these analog tools flaunt their simplicity against the confusing complexity of electronic devices and apps, the hype has also created a new kind of problem for paper fans. Just like with the plethora of apps to choose from, some people get hung up on picking out the perfect notebook. That “analysis paralysis,” in turn, becomes the antithesis of the productivity they’re aiming for. In that case, the simplest solution is often the best, and nothing can be simpler than a few sheets of blank paper held together by the simplest clipboard you’ll ever get your hands on.

Notebooks like Moleskine and Leuchtturm have become extremely popular because of their minimalism. There are no distracting designs or embellishments, both on the covers and on the pages, leaving you free to use the notebook as you like it. You can cover it with stickers or, in the case of plain styles, mark the pages freely without worrying about printed lines or grids. These notebooks, however, are also notorious for their limitations, like being confined to the size of the notebook that you purchased as well as the number of pages available. Free or unbound sheets of paper offer absolute freedom, but keeping them together in one place can become a chore.

That’s where this clipboard comes in, offering the simplest yet smartest way to keep those pieces of paper organized in the way and order you want. Calling it a clipboard can be a bit of a misnomer, though, because there isn’t any clip at all. Instead, you have a flap on one edge of the cover that tightly squeezes the sheets of paper, almost like a clip. Without any sort of clip mechanism, the clipboard can close almost completely flat except for the small margin on the spine that lets it accommodate as many as 20 sheets of paper at a time. If that’s not enough paper, there’s a pocket on the cover that lets you hide a few more sheets.

This spine also has a secret that’s almost genius in its simplicity. There are two holes near each end, and you can choose one or the other to clip your pen into. When the clipboard is closed, you’ll only see the pen’s clip on the outside. Flip the cover lid open, and you’ll have immediate access to your trusted writing tool.

The Hinge clipboard’s simplicity is its strength. You don’t have to worry about fancy mechanisms or secret features that get in the way of your thoughts. Simply flip it open, pull out your pen, and start writing or drawing. The lid’s material is sturdy enough to be a flat surface to write on even when you’re standing up. And unlike notebooks, you get to decide on how many sheets of paper you want to bring with you or which notes to carry to your meeting. It also lays completely flat, taking up the minimum space needed just for paper and pen.

We sometimes think too hard to come up with smart solutions to our problems when the smartest answer is sometimes the simplest one. With no extraneous part that can break or wear down, this ultra-minimalist clipboard offers the simplest option for putting ideas to paper. Even in its simplicity, however, it also exhibits a bit of ingenuity, proving that the best ideas can sometimes come in the most unexpected ways.

The replaceable heads of this minimal toothbrush are made from recycled thermoplastic!

Clip is a new toothbrush concept made from recycled polypropylene with replaceable heads for when bristles fray.

There always comes the day when toothbrush bristles fray. If you use a standard manual toothbrush, then frayed bristles mean the whole toothbrush needs to be replaced. If you use an electric toothbrush, then the old toothbrush head can be traded in for a new, clean one.

Whichever toothbrush you prefer, replacing frayed bristles comes at a price. It’s costly, wasteful, and inconvenient. That’s why Edo Kim and Yeseul Kim, designers based out of London, designed Clip, a minimal toothbrush with a replaceable head.

Citing the high number of materials used to create conventional toothbrushes, Edo and Yeseul made sure to design Clip so that far fewer materials are needed for manufacturing. Made from recycled polypropylene, Clip takes on the traditional shape of manual toothbrushes.

Clip’s hollow unibody also remains intact over time and use due to polypropylene’s highly durable, long-lasting makeup. Compared to manual toothbrushes on the market, Edo and Yeseul decided to use far less plastic and nylon, replacing both materials with the recycled thermoplastic.

In doing so, the demand for energy used to manufacture plastic toothbrushes is lessened and less pollution is created as a result. When the bristles on Clip fray, users can swap out heads simply by popping out the old one and clicking the new head into place with a push-button locking mechanism. Since Clip’s unibody handle is made from such durable material, the actual toothbrush will last a long time and when the bristles on Clip’s head begin to fray, a new head can easily replace it.

Besides white, Clip would come in pastel shades of yellow, pink, green, and blue.

This clever nutcracker design was inspired by the shape of a carabiner clip!

There’s a certain charm to the Nutcracker designed by Rudolph Schelling Webermann for Normann Copenhagen, and this charm stems from the fact that the Nutcracker doesn’t really look like a nutcracker.

With its slick, modern design, Webermann’s nutcracker design looks more like a carabiner clip, but it is, in reality, a Class 2 lever that lets you easily crack nuts of varying sizes. The carabiner-shaped nutcracker comes with a closed-loop design and is made with a silicone outer body that’s comfortable to hold as you apply pressure. Metal inserts on the inside of the silicone clip let you place and crack-open nuts of different sizes, and the closed-loop silicone design acts as both a hinge as well as a spring, allowing the Nutcracker to easily break open the toughest of nuts before returning back to its original shape.

This iPhone MagSafe wireless charging bank also doubles as a stand for your smartphone!

It looks like we’ve come full circle with the camel-hump battery case that Apple released for the iPhone back in 2015. However, the CLIP, by Adaptation Design Studio takes a once-ridiculed form factor and puts it to good use by making it relevant and sensible.

The CLIP is a wireless power bank designed to snap onto the back of your phone either using MagSafe (for newer iPhone models) or using an adhesive clip (for older iPhones and Android devices). In doing so, the device aligns with the smartphone’s wireless charging coil, allowing it to charge the phone’s battery on the fly, without any cables. However, the CLIP doesn’t just add an extra external battery to the back of your phone, it also adds a kickstand that can be used in both landscape and portable formats. A metal component (shaped sort of like a carabiner clip) wraps around the power-bank and can be opened out to let you prop your phone vertically or horizontally while it’s charging. Now that’s a mighty clever use of the MagSafe feature if you ask me. In fact, if you could extend the size of the power-bank and add slots to dock/charge your AirPods, this would be absolutely perfect.

Machined from a single piece of titanium, WESN’s Carabiner promises to last a lifetime

What if a Lifetime Warranty was baked right into your company’s ethos? How would it define or determine your design choices? Well, for WESN, the approach is simple. Make stuff using the highest quality materials and in a way that is damn near destruction-proof. Meet The Carabiner, WESN’s take on the humble EDC clip that people use for everything from securing their ID Card to their belt-loop, or their body-harnesses to a bungee rope. The construction of a normal carabiner is simple and involves broadly four parts – a hook, a clip, a rivet to hold them together, and a spring that allows the clip to stay shut, so things don’t accidentally unhook or slip off. WESN’s Carabiner, however, comes with just one part… itself. With its unique monolithic design, machined out of a single billet of titanium, WESN’s Carabiner does everything a carabiner clip can do, but also looks visually interesting and lasts far longer than other clips can.

A machined pattern on The Carabiner replaces the need for a spring and rivet, allowing the clip to open and close on its own by making the metal bend and flex. The titanium construction ensures the spring-action never weakens (even after hundreds of years), while giving the clip the durability to last a lifetime, making it easily one of the most stylish and robust pieces of EDC you’ll ever have the pleasure of owning.

olloclip_multi_device_clip_1

Olloclip is easily considered one of the vanguards of iPhone photography. Its lenses for the iPhone have resulted in some marvelous pictures that have made it to the ‘Shot on iPhone’ billboards we see around us. This year at IFA, Olloclip announced that it finally intends on losing its title of “iPhone Only” with the launch of the Olloclip Multi-Device Clip.

The Multi-Device Clip is an attach-on device that easily clamps onto any phone, and acts as a dock for Olloclip’s incredible lenses. Giving you the ability to own and use Olloclip’s readily available lenses, the Multi-Device Clip enhances your phone camera’s capturing ability by quite literally broadening its horizons with the wide-angle lenses and fisheye lenses, and focusing on the minute details with their Macro Lens. Superior smartphone photography just got democratized!

These carabiner clips are made from a single titanium piece

tk6_titanium_keychain_1

It took Jeb Cheng quite a bit of trial and error (as you can see here), but after dozens of prototypes, he ultimately arrived at the perfect design for a single-piece carabiner made from titanium. A series of slanted cuts, spaced apart to provide a balance between flexibility and rigidity without breaking apart, are placed in the arm of the carabiner. A little pressure allows it to slide backwards (the cuts only give it flexibility in a single direction), giving you enough space to slip your keys in. Release the pin/arm and it reverts to its original position.

The FLEX TK6 Titanium Keychain comes in two variants, a slightly larger one with two movable arms, and a smaller, single arm variant. Machined from a single block of titanium, before being given a scratch-resistant coating, the FLEX TK6 will probably last forever, outliving keys and traditional locking systems; but so what if it’s 2050 and you’re unlocking your doors with Siri or biometrics… You can use the TK6 then to tie together the rest of your EDC!
