Classic Novel And Punny Title Wooden Book Coasters: Jurassic Perk

Let’s face it, a good book and a nice cup of coffee or tea go together like peanut butter and bananas. But where do you rest your beverage? Personally, I rest mine on my open laptop because I like to live dangerously. But maybe you’re more cautious; maybe you need these classic novel or punny title wooden book coasters made and sold by Etsy shop Cutting Boredom. Me? I need a new laptop.

Made from reclaimed wood, the coasters are available in 20 different classic literature titles (see above) and 15 different tea/coffee/booze related punny titles (see below). They start at two for $20 and get cheaper the more you buy. I’m going to buy all 35 of them so I can use a different coaster every day of the month like I imagine rich people do.

I love reading. I also love coffee. As a matter of fact a few weeks ago I ordered one of everything at Starbucks and I still haven’t run out of energy. Or slept. Or been able to read because my hands are too jittery to hold a book steady. I’m starting to think the eventual crash is going to be a real doozy.

Store Your Floppy Disk Coasters in a Wooden Floppy Drive

Do you long for the days when software shipped on a bunch of floppy disks? Yeah, me either. But I do have a soft spot in my heart for collecting retro technology and art that celebrates it out of a sense of nostalgia. A while back I used my laser cutter to make myself some wood coasters that look like 3.5-inch floppy disks, but they just end up sitting out all over the place. I think it would be better if I had a disk drive to keep them in. Well, thanks to Lazerjammer Studios, that’s now a possibility.

This wooden coaster storage box looks like a vintage disk drive, with a slot in the front where you can deposit up to four wooden 3.5″ coasters. The box has a hinged top for retrieving the coasters, and its interior is lined with felt to protect them. Now I’ve tried inserting my floppy disk coasters in a real 3.5″ drive and they just get stuck, and I need a bunch of tools to yank them back out. And never mind what happened when I tried jamming four of them in there. This is a much better solution.

As I mentioned, I made my own wood floppy disk coasters, but the ones that Lazerjammer sells look much more professional than mine, and will definitely fit inside of the storage box/disk drive. So I recommend buying those to go with. They’re sold in a set of four for $24.95. The disk drive also sells for $24.95, so you’re looking at a great gift for under 50 bucks. And don’t forget to flip the write-protect tabs so your important files don’t get overwritten when you put your coffee cup on top.

Pac-Man Inspired Coasters: Drinka Drinka Drinka

Running around a maze with ghosts on your ass and gobbling dots all day works up quite the thirst. It’s important for a Pac-Man to keep hydrated. While Pac-Man Energy Drink is hard to come by these days, there are plenty of other thirst quenchers to choose from. Just be sure not to put it down directly on your coffee table or Ms. Pac-Man is gonna be pissed. What you need are some Pac-Man themed coasters.

The guys at SPSNOLA make these fun video game inspired coasters, also known as “Ghosters.” They come in two different versions – a colorful acrylic set that replicates the colors from the classic arcade game, and a solid hardwood version that looks a bit more substantial and classy. You can’t go wrong with either style.

Either 5-piece set will look great sitting on a table in your game room. The acrylic set sells for $24, while the hardwood set goes for $48. Just wakka wakka wakka your way over to Etsy to order your coasters now.

3.5″ Floppy Disk Coasters Protect Tables with Pixels

You know what makes a good drink coaster? A good old 3.5″ floppy disk. But real floppies have moving parts and irregularities that can make them less than ideal surfaces for balancing some glasses. Never mind that they just don’t look as cool as these colorful pixel art floppy coasters.

Artist Tsvetelina Mihaylova aka PXLprincess makes these 3.5″ floppy coasters entirely from fused perler beads, and they look great. They come in way more colors than I remember in my old library of floppies. I seem to remember a sea of black and blue plastic neatly loaded into these tubs that held maybe 50 disks each, with lots of chicken scratch scrawled onto the labels. And remember having to install software that came on like 20 disks? I don’t miss that.

You can grab some pixel art floppy coasters over on Etsy for about $4 a piece. Just don’t try and stick these floppies into your old disk drive. I can’t imagine that would work out well. And remember, Don’t Copy That Floppy!

Floppy Disk Coasters: Protect Your Tabletop and Your Data

It’s been about two decades since I had to use a 3.5″ floppy disk for anything. I used to have boxes and boxes of the things packing everything from Microsoft Windows ridiculously bloated installers to various “warez” that I really shouldn’t have had in my possession. But those days are long gone, and pretty much all of my storage is of the solid state kind now.

After I was done using all those floppies, I thought they might make good drink coasters, but the moisture just got inside, and they scratched up my coffee table instead of protecting it. Fortunately, somebody has created floppy disk coasters with neither of those problems.

TechnoChic makes these fun retro coasters from old floppies which have been covered in vinyl, then backed with cork. Problem solved. No liquid gets inside the disk, and your tabletop is safe from scratches.

You can grab a set of five floppy coasters over on TechnoChic’s Etsy shop for $25. They’re also available in colors if you’re looking for something a little more vibrant

The Couch Coaster Puts Cup Holders On Your Otherwise Useless Couch

Look, you gotta sacrifice in the name of love, we suppose. That’s why you agreed to let your significant other pick a sofa with fluffy armrests, instead of the two La-Z-Boys you wanted. Love, right? Well, love is also about compromise, and with the Couch Coaster you’ll now be able to enjoy the game while drinking beer on that fancy sofa you like so much. It turns any armrests into a cup holder.

Lounging on the sofa gets even more relaxed with this couch drink holder. It’s a coaster-meets-cup-holder that safely contains drinks on the arm of couches and chairs. Flexible silicone sides drape over surfaces and are weighted for extra stability. And an adapter lets cans, glasses, bottles, or mugs of almost any size fit without spilling. Now your beverages stay upright and secure—and within reach.

Convenience also doesn’t have to cost an arm, and at $20, the Couch Coster is a no-brainer.

These Coasters Make It Clear What Your Priorities Are

coasters-1

Serving drinks to your guests while using coasters says a lot about you. It says you value your expensive furniture, which is fine, but it also shows you can be a little uptight about things. Yes, you want to keep your expensive things looking expensive, but why did you have to get something so delicate to start with? Plus, tossing a coaster under your friends’ drinks also puts some pressure on them to keep using them; it’s sending a message. And just in case that message isn’t clear enough, these coasters right here spell it right out. The “Don’t f**k up the Table” coasters are about as direct as you get, and their bluntness might actually take some of the tension away, putting a potentially slightly uncomfortable message front and center while making light of it, simultaneously.

Or, of course, we could be overthinking the whole damn thing, and these are just cool conversation pieces. Whaichever way you want to see it, it’ll cost you $17 to own a set of 4.

Star Trek Isolinear Chip Coasters Protect Your Starship from Spills

Remember those isolinear chips that Starfleet used in TNG? They were basically their form of memory cards to slot into their computers. Well, now you can use them to rest your drinks on so they don’t damage your surfaces, like tables, counters, navigation consoles, etc.

isolinear_chip_coasters_1zoom in

These Star Trek isolinear chip coasters come in a 2-Pack for just $14.99(USD). I have no idea what data is stored on them. Could be Geordi’s diary, Picard’s meal plan for the replicator, or Riker’s little black book, in which case these things are probably full.

These coasters are going to look great in your Enterprise bridge replica livingroom. Just don’t try to stick them into your computer, because they won’t work – at least not until the 24th century when we have the technology to read them.

Guy Makes Unpoppable Bubble Wrap Drink Coasters

Bubble wrap is crazy amazing stuff. Popping it’s bubbles is both calming and addictive. There are some people who love bubble wrap so much that they would put it all over their walls and surfaces. For those people, check out these Unpoppable Bubble Wrap Drink Coasters.

bubble_wrap_1zoom in

These are unpoppable, so that’s kinda torturous for those who like to pop this stuff, but still, it looks just like the stuff you love, in coaster form. They were made by YouTuber Peter Brown of Shop Time, who created them by covering the wrap in clear epoxy, then cutting them into the shape of coasters, and peeling out the original bubble wrap. That simple process creates some unique coasters that will tease your need for popping bubbles.

Check out the video of Peter making these coasters if you want to try it yourself.
