This 5-piece travel cutlery set has to be one of the most stylish ones I’ve ever seen

Portability seems to be a very coincidental element of the Linden Travel Cutlery Set’s design. Minus the case, it looks like the kind of fine flatware you’d have in your house (and probably only take out when the guests come over), so the fact that you can slip them into a travel case and carry them around seems like a very interesting feature!

Inspired by the shape of leaves, Linden’s flatware boast of an organic design that embraces style more than a function-led form language. The cutlery kit comes with two spoons (a tablespoon and a dessert spoon), a fork, a knife, and a pair of chopsticks, packaged wonderfully in a steel case with a bamboo lid. The case is aptly sized to fit right into backpacks, making it easy to carry around, and the bamboo lid conveniently doubles up as a resting platform for the chopsticks when in use!

Created as a stylish, convenient, and reusable alternative to disposable plastic cutlery, the Linden Portable Cutlery Set hopes to spearhead the Bring Your Own Cutlery movement and reduce the tonnes of plastic waste entering landfills and our oceans each year. Combine that noble purpose with Linden’s stylish design and the three color options, and you’ve got yourself an absolute winner!

Have you ever felt that your meals required just a little more suspense? If yes, then Flyde by Felix Marx is for you! The name Flyde, meaning ‘To flow’ in Danish hints towards the unique selling point of this rather beautiful cutlery set, as it introduces an element of drama to the tabletop by precariously balancing on its sculpture-like handle.

four_seasons_shakers_4

The Four Seasons shakers are quite literally perfection. Capturing four different types of seasoning, and embodying them in snow-globe-esque containers, Qualy Design’s Four Seasons shakers are just simply clever and adorable at the same time. Not only are they well designed, but the absolutely witty wordplay also makes the product even more lovable! You’ve got four shakers that embody four different seasons and hold four different seasonings. Designed for salt, pepper, dried herbs, and chili flakes, the shakers come with plants on the inside that pair well with the seasoning.

Oh, Game of Thrones, whatever our take on the faults of the final season, one thing remains, we can’t ignore the series or the impact it had on our lives with hours of discussions, theories and lets not even get started on the number of inspired souvenirs I own! But all that is pushed aside with just one look at these elaborately crafted spoons, designed in collaboration between HBO and Magnum as a part of their limited-edition collection, with each design representing the houses that played a part in the show in an iconic manner. From the gleaming red and gold Lannister-worthy engraving to the stark fierceness of the northerners, each of these spoons completely defines the characteristics that made this series such an epic exercise in storytelling.

Lifetime Partner’ mug by Johnson Tsang is a play on whimsy and ceramic design that defies traditional behavior. The lifetime partners here are not just a couple but also everyday objects like a cup and saucer – the pair is incomplete without the other and isn’t that the sweetest pair ever!

Green is the new orange this Thanksgiving! DOIY’s Saguaro collection comes as a set of cups, mugs, and tumblers with fluted bodies and cactus-branch shaped handles. Colored in a remarkably eye-catching green, the glassware stack up on each other when not in use, turning your kitchen-counter into the backdrop of a Western movie. When you do need them for sipping something like Orange Juice, or something more appropriate like ‘Green’ Tea, the branch-shaped handles serve as a nifty functional detail, being decorative when you want, and useful when you need them. Don’t worry though, this adorable set of cactoid-crockery doesn’t come with spikes and definitely don’t need watering. Moreover, they’re freezer and dishwasher-safe too. Road Runner and Wile E. Coyote sold separately!

The Conchiglie is a neat, conch-shaped device inspired directly by the conchiglie pasta. Colored in yellow and molded out of food-grade silicone, the Conchiglie comes with a hollow inner that’s perfectly sized for a lemon-half. Slip the lemon in and squeeze it from the outside and the Conchiglie does a wonderful job of juicing the lemon without getting your hands all sticky and messy. The silicone construction gives you the friction and grip you need, and a tiny strainer at the end of the conch helps catch the lemon seeds as you juice away.

The Ortwo models itself on the hand-grippers that we use to increase our gripping strength, giving you a new, single-handed way to crush pepper, salt, or other spices. It can be literally worked with one hand if your other hand is occupied or messy (all pepper mills require two hands), and if you’re looking for speed and quantity, the Ortwo can be run with two hands too, giving you more crushed pepper in less time! Its unusual build makes it easier to use (not to mention it works your hand muscles too!), and a spring within the Ortwo returns it to its opened position after you press down on it.

Titled the Pebble, these gorgeously vivid and funky cutlery tools are a collaboration between Pentatonic and i am OTHER, a creative collective assembled by Pharrell, and are made mostly from recycled materials. The unusually vibrant cutlery set is named after the pebble-shaped container it comes in. The colored container is made using plastic recycled from music CDs, and perfectly houses a spoon, knife, fork, a pair of chopsticks, and even a collapsible drinking straw. Plastic handles for the cutlery are crafted from recycled food packaging, while the cutlery themselves are crafted from steel, with a highly durable anodized titanium coating for strength as well as to give the cutlery their unmistakable vibrant purple hue. Talk about having a conversation starter!

The art of Magemono has been around and flourishing for as long as 400 years, but with the commercialization and modernization (and even westernization) across the world in the past half-century, the heritage artisans began seeing a gradual-yet-unavoidable decline in appreciation for their craftsmanship and eventually, their trade. Nasuda decided to continue the Haori cup line, with the Magemono tumbler and the Magemono bread tray, two classic everyday products that add a touch of Japanese minimalism, craftsmanship, and perfection to homes and lives.

It isn’t often that something as mundane as an ice-mold wins a design award, but it seems like the Icy Galaxy by Ladan Zadfar and Mohammad Farshad deserves recognition. Designed to look like a beautiful wavy orb of ice, the Icy Galaxy sphere does two things – It creates an interesting interaction with the liquid it’s immersed in, especially when the liquid slides into the orb’s multiple crevasses, but at the same time, it also helps rapidly cool drinks down by increasing the icy orb’s surface area (similar to how motorcycle engines come with fins that increase their surface area allowing wind to cool them more effectively). The orbs are crafted using silicone+plastic molds that create two spheres at

There’s nothing better than a cup of joe to chase down that Thanksgiving meal! The compact capsule shape of this coffemaker by Roee Ben Yehuda makes it look like a moon lander for your counter and is obviously powered by caffeine which is only the second most powerful fuel after rocket fuel! The designer’s main focus was to retain some of the rawness and the mechanical steampunk look of the traditional Italian espresso makes while maintaining a clean shape that adds character to the product. There is a tubular water/steam container at the back which I feel can be extended down for added support for the appliance. There is also another container for your beans which I assume leads to a small grinder mechanism inside so you only get the freshest cup of joe each time. Overall, the shape is very unique and combines the nostalgic steampunk elements with clean, smooth curves for a balanced modern machine.

Not-Your-Average Cutlery detaches form and function to create a beautiful contrast!

The Disconnect series was created as a part of a Render Weekly challenge, but to be honest, it looks like something from the mind of Nendo. By separating the two elements of cutlery (the part that interacts with food, versus the part you grip), the Disconnect creates a form that is distinctly twofold. The two elements of the cutlery get individual treatment, instead of being like regular cutlery, where elements blend into each other to create a singular, homogenous form.

Designed by Francesco Brunetti, the Disconnect series breaks down cutlery into its separate elements, but at the same time retains a sense of minimalism. The slick handle comes with a slim, cylindrical design and a matte-finish, while the functional end of the cutlery uses a balanced, geometric approach with a slight satin finish. The cutlery series was envisioned in silver, space-grey, gold, and rose-gold, and I can’t really testify to whether it would be comfortable to use, but I’ll be damned if I don’t admit how incredibly eye-catching they are!

Pharrell Williams co-designed an incredibly gorgeous looking cutlery set from recycled CDs

I’ll admit, there’s nothing about that headline that could even remotely be predicted. Each word seems more improbable than the next, like predictive text gone absolutely bonkers, but it’s true… the man behind Happy and Get Lucky just partnered with Pentatonic, a circular economy company, to release a portable multi-use cutlery set that’ll make you feel happy and the planet feel lucky. Pardon my horrible wordplay, it’s a Friday night where I’m from, even if it’s being spent at home.

The Pebble serves as a vibrant, desirable, eco-friendly, and multi-use alternative to single-use plastic cutlery… a problem that results in 40 billion plastic utensils being thrown out as waste each year in USA alone. Designed as a quirky, candy-esque alternative to the boring white plastic sporks that come with packaged food, the Pebble’s foldable/collapsible cutlery can be used and reused multiple times. The grippy, rounded outer case and the added carabiner clip makes it easy to carry around or to secure it to a backpack while camping outdoors, and that absolutely delicious color combination should really get your mouth watering and your heart singing!

This compact cutlery set fits right into your wallet’s card-holder!

Here’s a thought I had recently regarding the way this virus is reshaping our behavior. The way we interact with people and objects will probably change, long after there’s a vaccine. People won’t want to shake your hand if you so much as clear your throat. There’s going to be a pretty visible effort to not hold onto handles on buses and subways unless you’re wearing gloves. This may probably extend to cutlery too, where people may eventually just choose to carry their own cutlery around with them, rather than opting for disposable cutlery, or for cutlery that’s been used by other people.

It looks like that thought didn’t cross just my mind, because the guys at Cold4ged Creations are actually looking to enter the production cycle for their compact cutlery – Forkanife. The Forkanife is a card-sized cutlery set that fits right into your wallet. The set comes with a recycled-plastic case that holds the two foldable instruments inside. Once you’re ready to eat, just pop the instruments out of their case and fold them outwards and you have yourself a rigid fork that’s good for everything from stiff steaks to mushy potatoes, and a serrated knife that can cut through veggies and meats with relative ease.

The Forkanife was created initially as a response to the fact that 6 million tonnes of plastic cutlery get dumped in the oceans each year. The foldable, portable kit was created to support the growing Bring Your Own Cutlery movement, but the virus and its ability to linger on objects may just end up pushing people to adopt practices that aren’t just safer for the oceans, but are safer for themselves too. At just 3.3mm thin, the Forkanife doesn’t just fit into wallets, it fits right into card-holders too, occupying the space of no more than two credit cards. The stainless-steel construction of the fork and knife make it exceptionally easy to clean, and the fact that the entire unit weighs just 53 grams makes carrying the Forkanife around with you beyond convenient… especially given that the Forkanife even comes with an optional RFID-blocking metal-case to carry it around with your cards!

This might be the thinnest travel cutlery set in the world

Fitting literally into a 6mm chopstick, the QUTLERY is easily one of the slimmest full-size cutlery sets we’ve seen. It’s small enough to slide into your pocket or bag, basically anywhere you’d store a pen… and it’s just about as light as one too.

Proof that good design can always help push boundaries, the QUTLERY is deceptively small, but opens out to give you a no-compromise experience. With an approach that resembles low-tolerance tool design, the QUTLERY comes with a small stainless steel body and precisely interlocking parts that let it turn into a fully functional fork, a steak knife, a pair of chopsticks, or a skewer. Each unit comes with a multi-part design, featuring an outer body, an inner sleeve, as well as the fork, knife, and chopstick docking elements all nested into a singular form. When needed, all you do is pull the docking element out and fix it onto the outer body which serves as the cutlery’s handle.

Each module is designed to balance portability and function. The fork module comes with a design that allows the prongs to compress when docked inside the slim sleeve, and spring open when removed, making it easy to pierce and hold your food. The steak knife module, on the other hand, is remarkably sharp for its size, and comes sharpened by legacy craftsmen at Yoshisada in Kyoto. With over 360 years of experience in crafting knives, blades, and even swords, Yoshisada’s work on the QUTLERY’s blade speaks for itself. The tiny blade is powerful enough to cut through everything from tough steaks to even slicing corn off a cob with minimal effort. Nested within the other side of the QUTLERY are the chopstick modules which, along with a removable inner metal sleeve, turn into two full-sized chopsticks. The chopsticks stack end to end too, turning into a long skewer that you can use to grill marshmallows, veggies, or some delicious kebabs. When all is said and done, the QUTLERY can be rinsed off (they’re dishwasher safe too) and docked back together, turning into a 6mm thin pen-shaped form that slides right back into your pocket!

QUTLERY: A Portable Precision Cutlery Set of Knife, Fork, Chopsticks

The QUTLERY is a full-size cutlery that can be stored in a 6 mm (0.23 in) or 8 mm (0.32 in) pipe, for easy portability. The pipe is used to connect the cutlery and make full-length forks, steak knives and chopsticks.

The QUTLERY is compact and lightweight and uses a patented technology for connecting the cutlery and the pipes without rattling. To realize this method, 0.1 mm level precision machining is carried out.

The QUTLERY is manufactured by an electrical discharge wire machine for precision machining, and this method is never used in normal cutlery manufacturing.

Steak Knife

The Steak Knife is sharpened at the smithing workshop Yoshisada, which was established 360 years ago in Kyoto, Japan. The craftsmen have manually sharpened the knives individually, and imbibes the beauty of a Japanese sword. Although it is small in size, it is incredibly sharp.

It is, of course, capable of cutting through steak, and it can even cut through a cob of corn. In case the knife begins to get dull, it can be sharpened again, using any commercial knife sharpener.

Fork

The Fork’s tongs are packed like a spring and designed to expand. When you want to put it away, you pinch them with your fingers to fit them back into the pipe holder.

The spread of the tongs makes it great for salads, and makes it easy to twirl pasta onto. It is very convenient for eating.

Chopsticks

The Chopsticks contain an extra tube and tip section inside. Once assembled they can be used as normal chopsticks. They are made up of a 6mm pipe and 5mm pipe and are designed for the thicker pipe to remain fixed while you move the smaller one.

The slender tips of the Chopsticks are their defining point and though they are thin, they can handle soft foods like tofu without issue, which compliments their ease of use.

By combining the two Chopsticks you can create a skewer, which is perfect for roasting marshmallows!

Bamboo-based biodegradable plastic cutlery that you won’t want to dispose!

Bio-materials are perhaps the biggest design trend this year, even making it as the theme of the 2019 London Design Fair Material of the Year. They’re a quick and effective way to create a positive impact without shifting the consumer culture… and quick and effective are the two words we definitely need, given the situation of our environment. KNORK Eco’s are designed to be cutlery you can dispose after use, but you won’t want to. Created from Astrik, a biopolymer made from sugarcane starch and bamboo pulp, KNORK Eco feel like plastic, but come with a much thicker cross section, making them solid and incredibly durable. They can be used, reused, and are dishwasher-friendly… and in the event that they do end up in a landfill, the KNORK Eco will biodegrade into compost in just two years.

What sets the KNORK Eco apart are the fact that they aren’t designed like your single-use plastic spoons and forks. Marginally thicker cross-sections mean they’re as robust as stainless steel cutlery, while the ergonomic gripping handles are perfect for eating food with. The bio-polymer is heat-resistant, making it perfect for all sorts of meals, and its glossy finish makes it look top of the line.

Developed using sugarcane and bamboo, two of the fastest growing plants in the world, the KNORK Eco can practically be produced on a scale that matches most plastic production. In fact, the KNORK Eco can even be biodegraded to fertilize the very soil that is used to grow these plants, making it one of the most inventive and positive cradle-to-grave approaches I’ve seen… but given exactly how great they look and feel, I definitely wouldn’t want to dispose of them too soon! In fact, the Astrik-case they come in make them perfect to carry around and use anywhere you go!

Cutlery that defies gravity?!

Have you ever felt that your meals required just a little more suspense? If yes, then Flyde is for you! The name Flyde, meaning ‘To flow’ in Danish hints towards the unique selling point of this rather beautiful cutlery set, as it introduces an element of drama to the table top by precariously balancing on its sculpture-like handle.

The elegant set of cutlery is composed of two materials that strikingly contrast one another; the imperfection-free quality of brushed stainless-steel creates a beautiful juxtaposition against the rough, sporadic aesthetic of Ebonite, a traditional bioplastic that is commonly used for this application. The intriguing selling-point of Flyde also has a practical benefit; the functional parts do not touch the table, therefore allowing them to remain hygienic!
