Das Keyboard 5Q Has All the Clicks and Can Display Data Using Colors

Das Keyboards have been around and annoying folks nearby with their super clicky mechanical keys for a long time now. A new version has turned up on Kickstarter called the Das Keyboard 5Q and it has a cool new feature that turns it into a display of sorts. Thanks to RGB LED backlit keytops and software that allows you to program each key to change colors depending on any data you want.

For instance, you could use different colors track the traffic to your website and have a row of keys light up to show you at a glance as you work. You can track when someone outbids you on eBay and have a key light up when that happens or program just about any other type of notification you can think up. You can also control the color and pattern of the lights on the keyboard from using a Rest API.

The keyboard uses Gamma-Zulu mechanical switches. Those switches are clicky and can survive 100 million actuations and have a 1.5mm actuation point.The keyboard has blown its Kickstarter goal out of the water raising over $179,000 with 29 days to go. A pledge of $139(USD) or more will get you a Das Keyboard 5Q with delivery starting in January 2017.

They’re also made from waterproof polyurethane and weather-resistant ballistic nylon. Both bags can fit a 15″ laptop and have smaller pockets inside so you can stuff in more gadgets and tinfoil hats.
