A doorbell that screens the temperature of your guest to ensure they do not have a fever.

Double vaccination, Delta variant, booster shots – these are the new terminologies that have been added to the world’s vocabulary in the past 1.5 years. Such is the quick passage of time in 2021 that we actually sit down and wonder, that it is almost September and we are entering the final quarter of 2021 soon, with no end to COVID in sight. In actuality, many of us are still suffering from anxiety in crowds and the ‘normality’ some people are exhibiting when outdoors. Compulsive sanitization has become a constant and honestly when someone breaks the basic hygiene, it makes me anxious. The designers at DAWN Studio understand us and have added a seamless way to reassure us of our health and safety within the parameters of every day designed objects.

Titled the BELL, this deceivingly simple design packs an extremely useful feature. The BELL visually resembles the traditional doorbell’s we would see, bringing to mind a quaint nostalgia. At the same time, the tongue of this doorbell acts as a sensor, allowing the person pressing your doorbell to automatically verify their temperature, all in one action.

The gadget consists of 2 parts – the indoor module and the outdoor module. The touch center and a digital display show the temperature of the visitor to themselves. If your temperature reads higher than 36 degrees, it is the visitor’s prerogative to step away and help stop the spread of their infection.  The indoor module gives the users more options – to communicate with the guest, to switch on the light that is discreetly hidden under the lamp and more.

Aesthetically speaking, the entire gadget retains an almost nostalgic vibe – the bell is shaped like the ones we see in an old-school hotel reception desk, prompting the user to ring it. The slight metallic accents add to the retro feel whereas the modern body keeps it fit for all decor styles.

Tiny attention to detail makes the design more wholesome, and that is exactly what happens with this design, like the light that keeps the panel lit up in the nighttime. Quaint, simple yet a solution to a problem that is a need of the hour, the BELL is here to literally save you by the bell!

This furniture system can furnish your entire room just by repurposing stainless steel cable ties!

Cable ties are those flexible fastening strips that bend back and forth like those blow-up air dancers that hang around drive-thru oil changes and car washes. Nowadays, they’re typically made from nylon or plastic and are used to help organize and hold together bunches of cables. Around their conception in 1958, they were initially cut from stainless steel and invented for use in airplanes as wire harnesses. Today, the designers at South Korea-based Dawn Studio have returned to the cable tie’s initial form in order to use the stainless steel metal strips as fasteners for a new interior furniture system.

In order to construct Dawn’s Cable Furniture, the creatives at Dawn Studio essentially take the unused cable ties that bind various items together like delivery shipment boxes or bunches of cables and use them instead to fasten parts of furniture together. For example, the system’s featured side table is constructed by looping stainless steel cable ties through laser-cut slits found on the tabletop and its legs, forming a simple and sturdy table. The furniture system’s easy assembly makes it possible to build other furniture variations like umbrella holders and lighting fixtures. Following a similar construction process as the side table, the build of Dawn’s Cable Furniture’s lighting fixtures is slightly more complex. In order to fit sockets and varying bulb sizes, the metallic slabs that form each lamp’s covers are adapted to promote optimal lighting. In addition to these more fundamental furniture pieces, Dawn Cable furniture features a clock built from joined stainless steel cable ties that employ nuts and bolts to form the clock’s center dial. With Dawn’s Cable Furniture, users can create monochromatic vanity spaces or moody nighttime reading nooks.

The evolution of a product design often seems to mirror the changing needs of its users, but when it comes to single-use items like cable ties, the pursuit for durability is usually abandoned for an overall less costly production process. Recognizing the untapped potential of stainless steel cable ties, the team at Dawn Studio sought to transform the product’s single-use identity, turning them instead into permanent fasteners that hold entire furniture systems together.

From UPS to Dominos, this self-driving vehicle is the eco-friendly delivery solution of the future

In looking for ways to reduce carbon emissions, especially in the transportation industry, designers have proposed solutions that would decrease carbon emissions from delivery trucks. Why so specific? The problem with these short-distance deliveries is that they burn a disproportionate amount of fuel compared to the size of the package being dropped off.

Here’s where we introduce the Beep, a self-driving vehicle that was designed for these short travels. On Yanko, we’ve featured other green transport vehicles that operate under similar principles: electric-powered bikes or scooters that mail carriers can use for the “last leg” of the package’s journey. The Beep stands out because, unlike other proposed designs, it doesn’t require a driver.

How would this system work in practice? Well, the Beep, with its short, compact design, can easily maneuver through local roads and tight alleys. Since the vehicle drives itself, the restaurant chains or delivery services that use them won’t have to train employees to use them. Quick note: the Beep can also be driven manually if preferred. In those cases, a handle and standing platform will pop out from the back of the Beep, allowing the user to ride it like an electric scooter.

The Beep’s storage container is sturdy enough to protect its cargo from harm. Additionally, the storage container is height-adjustable, so packages of any size can fit securely. Groceries or other food items will also stay fresh thanks to its climate-controlled interior. These two features demonstrate the Beep’s diverse capabilities — particularly, how it can be used to service a variety of different industries.

Is This the Future of Logistics?

franken_modular_logistics_platform_layout

Franken is a modular logistics platform that has been designed with the intention of revolutionizing how robots are used within the manufacturing sector. Franken features an extremely flexible modular design that centers around a two-wheeled mainframe. This section can function independently, as it travels around in a Segway-like fashion; this makes it ideal for carrying small parcels or, with the addition of grips, even people!

For larger objects and parcels, two of these mainframes can come together to create a four-wheeled, parcel-carrying machine! The large bed swallows the parcels, with the raised walls keeping them from falling out. A cover can be added to the open-aired transporter to create a personal delivery robot that protects the cargo from the elements!

A product that offers a vision of what the future may look like needs an equally futuristic aesthetic, and this has been achieved through a sleek, flowing form with sharp chamfers, that sits upon intriguing wheels that are back-lit by gently glowing lights!

The Lamp and Fan Beautifully Combined

lighting_and_fan_layout

The lamp is a product which is almost guaranteed to be present on every desk, it allows us to ‘burn the midnight oil’ as well optimize the working conditions. But during the summertime the addition of a fan may be necessary, and with these two relatively large devices now present on the desk, it can quickly begin to feel a little cluttered!

Dawn Studio has created the solution to this space-stealing problem, and it comes in the form of Neighbor. The lamp and fan have been married beautifully to create a stunning, yet functional product; the fan has been seamlessly integrated into the larger housing of the lamp, freeing up space on the desk to work and eliminating the cluttered feeling!

Available in three sizes, ranging from a large statement lamp to a compact and portable lamp, there is bound to be a fit for a workstation of any size!
