This wearable gadget measures skin oxygen levels to detect and diagnose early signs of illness

An aesthetically designed medical gadget to detect all the problems that prop up from the dysfunction of underlying skin tissues and capillaries which can be problematic in the long run.

Detecting the first signs of ailment is a determinant in the future treatment and the overall health of an individual. For people with some kind of disease related to peripheral capillaries like peripheral arterial disease (PAD), it becomes even more important to take proactive action once it is identified. Designer Deokhee Jeong has come up with a wearable medical gadget to help patients suffering from this problem to keep a close tab on the earliest signs. This is done by measuring the skin oxygen levels accurately courtesy of the wearable patch Deokhee calls the Transcutaneous Oxygen Sensor.

The wearable medical gadget is still in the concept prototype stage but unlike other designs, this is created in complete synergy between the design team who give direction to the aesthetic requirements and the technology team who ideate the concept. The end result, a functional gadget that solves the intended purpose while being aesthetically ideal for practical usage. Here it is, the accurate detection of blood oxygen levels of the skin tissue and underlying vessels and capillaries. The oxygen detector is designed for ASON Co. Ltd. and it is highly likely it will make it to the mass consumer market in a couple of years.

Transcutaneous Oxygen Sensor uses luminescent gas sensing and soft electronics technology to make the readings. It is far more superior to the SPO2 sensor and much simpler than some of the methods used to detect the disease by medical professionals. Things like Pulse volume recording (PVR) waveform analysis, Photoplethysmography (PPG), Magnetic resonance angiography (MRA) or Doppler ultrasound flow studies.

The design team and the techie minds come together to blur out all the hassle of these methods and consolidate them inside this compact medical gadget that’s wearable. The patient has to simply stick it onto the back of the hand and the wrist area to do the test. When everything is done, simply put it in the pocket or the closet for next time use. It is that compact!

This iPhone MagSafe wireless charging bank also doubles as a stand for your smartphone!

It looks like we’ve come full circle with the camel-hump battery case that Apple released for the iPhone back in 2015. However, the CLIP, by Adaptation Design Studio takes a once-ridiculed form factor and puts it to good use by making it relevant and sensible.

The CLIP is a wireless power bank designed to snap onto the back of your phone either using MagSafe (for newer iPhone models) or using an adhesive clip (for older iPhones and Android devices). In doing so, the device aligns with the smartphone’s wireless charging coil, allowing it to charge the phone’s battery on the fly, without any cables. However, the CLIP doesn’t just add an extra external battery to the back of your phone, it also adds a kickstand that can be used in both landscape and portable formats. A metal component (shaped sort of like a carabiner clip) wraps around the power-bank and can be opened out to let you prop your phone vertically or horizontally while it’s charging. Now that’s a mighty clever use of the MagSafe feature if you ask me. In fact, if you could extend the size of the power-bank and add slots to dock/charge your AirPods, this would be absolutely perfect.

This hemispherical mouse adds a different aesthetic to your work-desk

Look at the Hemisphere and tell me it isn’t adorably eye-catching. The mouse’s name pretty much tells you all you need to know. Its design is a perfect hemisphere, unlike most organically-designed computer mice, and features the standard two click buttons and a scroller, but laid out in the mouse’s half-sphere design.

The mouse has, for too long, been bound to ergonomics-influenced design. I am, by no means, bashing ergonomics, but different mice appeal to different people. There’s no one-glove-fits-all design for computer mice. The Hemisphere takes advantage of that. Much like holding a cricket or tennis ball, the Hemisphere’s half-spherical construction feels comfortable yet sort of radical too. Plus, I can’t get enough of that glossy green finish!

The Leica Photo Printer revives my love for photography

Hypothetically this could be a Leica branded printer concept, but I’m going to keep that aside for now and focus on this clever idea and its potential. Instant printers are not a new phenomenon, so what makes this Photo Printer different? The prospect of it directly connecting to your phone, acting as a battery backup and a printing machine. I could go a step further and say that it even serves as a memory backup for all the wonderful moments you capture through your phone, but for some odd reason I feel it shouldn’t have this feature.

In my mind, it takes away the charm of printing instantly and that being the only evidence of the magic you created. Back in the days, it worked well – of course you had a negative film that you could take more prints from. In this digital age, I think the phone’s memory will suffice. Let the printer do its job and be your constant companion when you travel and help you take beautiful pictures… always!

A Candle Warmer That’s Housed Within a Beautiful Design

The warm, gentle and atmosphere creating glow of a candle is often found within the domestic environment, and when paired with a sweet or seasonal aroma, their desirability elevates further. However, candles do bring with them a range of downfalls; their flames are a fire risk and the wax melts so quickly that they must be replaced regularly. These problems, and more, are solved by a Candle Warmer.

The D’audrey Candle Warmers are beautiful examples of a candle warmer, while each design may differ aesthetically, they each feature a Halogen Lamp that gently melts the wax, releasing its untainted aroma.

It’s the alluring aesthetics of the D’audrey collection that demands attention; the repetitive lines and organic forms allow the warm light to escape and cast unique shadows onto the table top. The sculpture-like forms hold themselves strongly when the light is not on, allowing them to remain a powerful statement piece within the room!

A trippy skippy rope!

Here’s another one of those products that borrows an idea from somewhere else and uses it beautifully to absolutely transform a user’s experience (the previous one was the Puzlook iPhone case). Taking inspiration from all those products that use LEDs and our persistence of vision to create visuals, like the pixelstick, or those USB LED fans that tell the time, the Smart Rope by Tangram displays skipping stats as you jump.

Working almost magically, the LEDs laid out inside the rope light up almost magically exactly at your eye level so without having to look around, you can see the number of skips flash before your eyes every time, with live increments. The 23 LEDs laid out inside the rope bend along with the rope because of the patent-pending flexible PCB on the inside. Aside from numbers, the LEDs also display battery status on powering up and shutting down. The rope’s handles come in mirror-finish silver and gold or in matte black and feature ball-bearings for easy rope rotation. If you want to push your work-out further, the Smart Gym app for your phone as well as smartwatch allow you to track and monitor workout times while even letting you set your own workout goals based on your BMI.

This sort of design innovation isn’t just a novelty, but is even a psychological booster as it motivates you to skip more (and skip regularly too) just so that you can see those LEDs light up, almost like magic!
