This Cyberpunk-ish desk clock is your expanded widget platform for peak productivity

Desk gadgets are a staple for a geeky setup, adding flair and functionality at the same time. You can get yourself a Nixie clock, gadget hub, or cool bias lighting to set up a unique theme. All that, however, can’t match the finesse of this Cyberpunk-ish digital clock that doubles as a widget platform.

This is Time Gate, a desk clock that’s a whole lot more when it comes to bringing all your preferred notifications and widgets in a unified interface that in no way causes distraction. The gadget has five separate screen interfaces to bring important widgets out of the desk display and onto a cool clock interface.

Designer: Divoom

Keeping with the theme, Divoom has deliberately pixelated the interface of each of these 128×128 pixel LCD screens. The digital clock has an expanded sense of realism as you can put up all your favorite assistants and dials in your peripheral view. Things like weather updates, calendars, reminders, stock market updates, social media followers, music player control and countless more. The desk clock interface can be customized via the companion app which also gives the liberty to create custom texts and animated graphics to reflect your mood.

Geeks are also gamers, so Divoom has included the option to display game elements like the number of kills in an FPS or the graph of achievements in a particular gaming session. To match the industrial looks, the gadget gets dual-edge ambient light and customizable backlight options with 12 cool light effects to build up the atmosphere.

Most of all if you want to tone down everything with minimum or no distractions, each of these displays turns into a Nixie clock interface. The current time is displayed just like any other digital clock if you want to. All this comes at a price tag of $150 which is not budget-friendly for the functionality you’ll get, but surely a must-have for a gadget freak.

Karim Rashid, Beeple, and more artists collaborate to create the world’s most beautiful ‘digital analog clock’

Imagine if an NFT could tell time – that’s pretty much what Klydoclock feels like. The vintage pendulum-clock-inspired device comes with two circular display areas that showcase the time in unique ways. With an upper screen displaying the clock’s face and a lower one showing a swinging pendulum, Klydoclock relies on bizarrely beautiful visual styles that make reading the time an entrancing and contemplative experience. The clock’s visuals are the result of a collaboration between Klydo and some of the top animators and visual artists from around the world including the likes of Karim Rashid and Beeple.

Klydoclock plays on the idea of uplifting and reimagining the mundane. Most antique clocks (especially those grandfather clocks) were designed for reliability and precision, and to let you see the time at a glance. They weren’t made to captivate you or grab your attention, but modern art works rather differently. Created as a quirky bridge between those two approaches, Klydoclock is a clock you could spend your day watching. Klydoclock’s screens showcase creative visuals that depict the passage of time, but in unique animations.

Analog Clock with Infinite Animated Faces – Transform your time-reading experience into an infinitely variable one.

Own a Piece of Decor Everyone Will Talk About – Klydoclock brightens up your space and serves as conversation piece.

The clock’s outer appearance remains strictly traditional – a rounded box made from birchwood veneer. However, the magic is what happens inside the box. The two displays show time in a variety of styles, letting you not just choose from a roster of artists and their motion graphics, but even design your own. Through the Klydo Artist Collective, users can contribute to the expanding collection of clock faces from industry elites like Karim, Beeple, Simona Alunni, Matt Semke, and many more.

Each Klydoclock is equipped with two 60Hz displays that show the clock face and moving pendulum respectively. A knurled tactile knob lets you preview the different ‘Klydos’ (that’s what the art experiences/themes are called) as well as adjust the time on your clock. Each Klydoclock also comes with a remote that lets you cycle through audio and visual themes in the clock settings, displayed in a circular UI that’s as beautiful as the clock itself. Sticking to the ethos of displaying great art, the Klydoclock doesn’t come with any fancy smartphone app, and doesn’t have a built-in camera or microphone to snoop in on you. Its only motive is to enrich your life and tell you the time while doing so!

Ultimately, the Klydoclock is also a global movement to bring art into every home. The team at Klydo partnered with more than 150 artists from 30 countries, creating as many as 1500 Klydos (art themes) that you can choose from in the initial collection. The movement also aims at supporting artists – not just by sharing a portion of the revenue from the Klydoclock sales, but also through the Klydo Artist Collective, which will offer events, workshops, promotions, and other opportunities to participants. Each Klydoclock starts at $229, with global shipping starting as early as December 2023.

This nap timer concept marries simple analog controls with a digital display

Most of us probably like taking naps during the day. Some people might even find it necessary to get through a tiring workday. There are studies suggesting that even a 20 to 30-minute “power nap” can be beneficial to productivity, though the problem is getting that amount of time right without undercutting or overspending. We have alarm clocks for that, of course, including the ones that can be found on our smartphones. Despite the proliferation of these general-purpose utilities, there’s still something to be said for a specialized tool dedicated solely to counting down the minutes until you wake up. Especially when said tool is a beautiful throwback to the past with some modern conveniences thrown in as well.

Designer: Andrea Senatori

We have plenty of timers and clocks around our house or, at the very least, in our pockets. Most probably use their smartphones for anything that needs counting down or up, while some might have a separate alarm clock beside their bed, set to ring on one or a few specific times in a day. A dedicated nap timer, however, offers simplicity and ease of use. There are no other functions to worry about or other timers you might get confused with. Simply set the timer when you want to take a nap, and that’s it.

It doesn’t get simpler than what the Spot 2 concept brings. It has one purpose and one purpose only, to ring an alarm after a specified period of time. Its controls are dead simple, too. There’s one large dial to set how long the timer goes and a smaller one for controlling the volume. These are presented as analog controls, so there’s absolutely no ambiguity in how they work.

This mix of analog with digital has both aesthetic and psychological aspects. The latter brings back familiar physical controls, putting the power back under our fingertips. At the same time, the nap timer looks interesting and attractive, especially with the ongoing trend to create retro-looking products. It isn’t all old-school, of course, with a monochrome display that prominently shows the timer as well as other details like the date, time, and even the temperature.

The Spot 2 nap timer concept is simple yet effective in conveying its purpose in an interesting yet easy-to-use manner. The dials leave little to the imagination in how to control the device, while the digital display distills information down to only the most essential parts. After all, when you’re body’s craving a short nap, the last thing you want to do is fiddle with your phone or alarm clock and have your brain too distracted or too engaged to sleep.

‘Among Us’ inspired night-lamp and digital clock is the most adorable tabletop accessory!

Created as an unofficial piece of merchandise for the breakout success online multiplayer game, Among Us, this digital clock and night-lamp may just be the cutest potential stocking-stuffer of this season! Designed by Kim Min Soo, the Among Us Lamp + Clock wonderfully transforms the adorable astronaut character from the game into a functional desktop clock, with the visor displaying the time of the day. Lift the torso off the character and it reveals a night-lamp underneath, disguised as the astronaut’s corpse with the signature bone protruding out of the waist!

While the product itself is an instant favorite, its choice of functionality is pretty well-planned too! The digital clock on the visor helps you keep track of the time while you do your ‘tasks’ (office work), and the night-lamp underneath is a wonderful way to illuminate your immediate surroundings when someone sabotages your house’s electrical systems. Obviously, I’m referring to power-cuts and not actual electrical sabotage, though I wouldn’t put it past my friends or family to act sus…

The Among Us Lamp + Clock is currently just a conceptual product, but the purpose of this article really is to put this concept into the ether in the hopes that someone with a 3D Printer and an Etsy store will actually begin selling this before Christmas! Next concept, a paper-shredder disguised as an Imposter!

Snoozing Made Not-So-Easy

nemo_1

If you’ve got a problem with snoozing way past your wakeup time, the NEMO alarm clock is for you! The design features an enclosed roller ball maze on top – in order to adjust the alarm, the ball must be moved to the blue space – to turn it off, it must be moved to the red. If you REALLY need to snooze, you gotta work for it… but by that time you’ll probably be wide awake from playing the maze game!
