Packed Pixels Second Screen for Laptops: iMonitor Air
Laptop users who want to have a secondary display already have a variety of options. You can even use an iPad with the help of a cheap app. If you’re still looking for a small, portable and most importantly high-resolution display, check out Matt Relf’s Packed Pixels.
Matt says he sourced the same display used in the iPad Air, which means Packed Pixels has a 9.7″ IPS screen with a 2048 x 1536 resolution. It connects to laptops via DisplayPort (or mini DisplayPort via an adapter), but they’ll also need a USB port for power. The display will come with mounting brackets that should fit on any laptop. The brackets will let you hang Packed Pixels on either side of your laptop’s screen. You’ll be able to hang it in landscape or portrait mode, or even facing away from you. It will also come with a desk stand if you want to use Packed Pixels as a standalone monitor.
Pledge at least £140 (~$240 USD) on Kickstarter to get a Packed Pixels as a reward. The need for DisplayPort limits PackedPixels’ market, but Matt says if his product takes off his company might make an HDMI-version of the display. He’s also looking at the possibility of adding daisy chaining to the current model.
