Black + Decker’s latest Kitchen Appliance is like a Keurig for cocktails

Unveiled at CES 2022, the $300 Black + Decker Bev is an automatic bartender that whips up the tastiest cocktails and mocktails for you on the spot. It occupies about the same space as a Keurig, and strangely enough, comes immediately after Keurig announced it was terminating its own $300 cocktail maker project. What the Black + Decker Bev offers is pretty much in the same ball-park when it comes to functionality. The kitchen countertop appliance sports a 6-bottle layout that lets you easily load 5 750ml alcohol bottles of your choice along with a sixth spot for Bev’s water chamber. Stainless steel straws descend into each bottle, allowing Bev to conveniently (and accurately) suck up precisely calibrated portions of alcohol to conjure up cocktails. No more mounting bottles upside down like other cocktail makers/dispensers.

To create different cocktails, Bev works on a disposable pod system quite similar to Keurig and Nespresso. Created in partnership with Bartesian, Black + Decker plans on releasing as many as 40 different beverage pods with pre-mixed juices, bitters, and syrups that just need to be popped into the appliance. Once a pod is loaded, you can select how intense you want your cocktail, and Bev does the rest, mixing the ingredients together and dispensing your final cocktail directly into a glass. The entire process takes all of 30 seconds, and yes, Bev even comes with a mocktail setting for people who don’t drink.

The product’s slated to be available in May, and Black + Decker’s mentioned that it doesn’t come with Bluetooth or a smartphone app. It does, however, sport a ‘Party Mode’ that uses LEDs under the bottles to create a pretty nifty ambiance!

This easy-to-use coconut opener doubles as a faucet for steady pouring straight from the source!

Coconut Faucet is an easy-to-use coconut opener that doubles as a faucet to pour water straight from the coconut.

Whether you’re sick or just thirsty, coconut water is stock full of nutritional value and health benefits. Full of electrolytes and vitamin-rich, coconut water is super hydrating and a smart choice for those recovering from illnesses, surgeries, tough workouts, or just another Friday night. While there are plenty of brands that sell coconut water in closed containers, there’s nothing like fresh coconut water straight from the source.

The only problem is, cutting into a coconut to get to the water is a tough job that generally requires some extra tools. To have an accessible and portable tool for cutting into coconuts and drinking from them, Mutian Yu devised the Coconut Faucet, an easy-to-use coconut opener that also functions as a faucet for pouring.

Tapping into coconuts typically requires two types of tools. First, you’ll have to crack that coconut open with a blunt force tool, like a mallet or hammer. Then, once the coconut is cracked, a knife or other sharp tool can be used to finish the job and draw the water out.

The Coconut Faucet is made up of three parts: a sharp pipe, plunger, and canister. Once the pipe is inserted into the coconut, users can lift the plunger to draw the coconut’s water into the canister from where the liquid can be poured.

Describing each part’s use and design, Yu notes, “The bottom of the [coconut-opener] is designed to have a certain inward tilt which can be closed when it is inserted in the coconut.” Yu then goes on to describe the plunging mechanism, “The red thimble is designed to have a smooth surface, separated from the functional area where the handle needs to be rotated.”

Once each part is appropriately inserted into the given coconut, the device will appear like a small teapot propped on top of a coconut. To pour the coconut’s contents into a cup, users take the canister’s handle, along with the actual coconut, and simply pour.

Portable coffee brewer features an angled silhouette to deliver a pour over that rivals your Starbucks barista!

Oblic Dropper is an immersion coffee brewer that’s designed with an angled silhouette and silicone covering for accurate pouring and coffee on the go.

If we can agree on one thing, it’s that there can never be enough coffee designs. From portable grinders to instant brewers, and from robotic coffee makers to smart espresso machines, designers are endlessly inspired by the thrill of a morning brew. Reinterpreting the classic coffee dripper through a portable, compact lens, industrial designer JenFu Yang conceptualized the Oblic Dropper, a handheld pour-over device ideal for bringing coffee with you on the go.

Following a similar build to conventional immersion coffee drippers, the Oblic Dropper allows users to brew pour-over sin record time across multiple coffee mugs. Equipped with an integrated stopper, transferring Oblic Dropper from one cup to the next can be a clean, seamless transition without any spillage.

Constructed from glass, Oblic Dropper comes with an angled silhouette that brings a modern touch to the traditional design. The angled silhouette of Oblic Dropper allows users to tilt the glass cup to make sure hot water can be poured all around the edges, making for the perfect pour-over.

Supporting the glass cup with silicone covering, the Oblic Dropper has a no-slip grip that keeps it in place on countertops and coffee mugs. The brewing mechanisms of Oblic Dropper screw into the silicone base covering and come with an internal infuser.

The internal infuser features tiny enough steep holes to catch any stray grinds so that each cup of coffee is as smooth and silky as the cup your go-to barista makes for you. Conceptualized in an array of different colors, users can pick their favorite to suit their taste and additional coffee accessories.

Designer: JenFu Yang

The coffee brewer’s tilted silhouette ensures that water can be poured from all angles.

The internal infuser ensures no stray grinds end up in your cup!

The silicone base screws into the glass cup of Oblic Dropper to lock securely into place.

From Game of Thrones-themed cutlery to shakers inspired by the four seasons – these exciting products are all you need to take your Thanksgiving dinner to the next level. We hope you are able to amp up this special holiday with these special designs. Enjoy!

1. The Four Season Shakers

The Four Seasons shakers are quite literally perfection. Capturing four different types of seasoning, and embodying them in snow-globe-esque containers, Qualy Design’s Four Seasons shakers are just simply clever and adorable at the same time. Not only are they well designed, but the absolutely witty wordplay also makes the product even more lovable! You’ve got four shakers that embody four different seasons and hold four different seasonings. Designed for salt, pepper, dried herbs, and chili flakes, the shakers come with plants on the inside that pair well with the seasoning.

2. Curved Flatware

Our team is having a debate and we need your help – is this oddly satisfying or does it disturb your OCD? Designed by Object Rights, this curved flatware will perfectly complement the circular plates on your dinner table this Thanksgiving. I, for one, am quite intrigued by this experimental design!

3. Transformer Table

The Transformer Table comes with two expanding sides and a central leg piece that sits anywhere in the middle to support the weight at the center. Once the table’s sides are pulled apart, wooden planks are placed on the top to give the table its long surface. The Transformer Table 3.0’s wooden panels stack to turn into a separate coffee table that you can use as a secondary piece of furniture, giving you two tables in one! The Transformer Table 3.0 pairs with the Transformer Bench, which has its wooden panels stored inside its hollow center. The bench’s height allows it to fit under the table too, giving you furniture that is both expandable and stackable for ultimate control over your space. For people who like dining on higher surfaces, there’s the Transformer Counter height table, a raised dining table to suit your home’s decor.

4. Golden-Accent Marble Dinner Plates

The Golden-Accent Marble Dinner Plates are probably the most gorgeous collection of plates I’ve ever laid my eyes upon! Each plate features an exquisite marble design, which almost look like little galaxies on tableware! The plates come in four interesting color options – white, black, grey, and blue. Each one is adorned with golden accents and marbled designs of different colors. There is also a hint of gold along the rim of the plates. The Golden-Accent Marble Dinner Plates would be an exciting addition to your otherwise traditional Thanksgiving dinner table!

The KitchenAid Smart Oven+ Connected Wall Oven is the sidekick you need while preparing a lavish Thanksgiving dinner! The smart oven is compatible with a variety of attachments, allowing you to effortlessly engage in different styles and techniques of cooking. The wall oven attachments include a steamer, grill, and a baking stone. The KitchenAid Smart Oven harmoniously combines all these attachments to create one wholesome cooking experience. Preparing a Thanksgiving spread has never been this simple and easy!

6. Game of Spoons

Oh, Game of Thrones, whatever our take on the faults of the final season, one thing remains, we can’t ignore the series or the impact it had on our lives with hours of discussions, theories and lets not even get started on the number of inspired souvenirs I own! But all that is pushed aside with just one look at these elaborately crafted spoons, designed in collaboration between HBO and Magnum as a part of their limited-edition collection, with each design representing the houses that played a part in the show in an iconic manner. From the gleaming red and gold Lannister-worthy engraving to the stark fierceness of the northerners, each of these spoons completely defines the characteristics that made this series such an epic exercise in storytelling.

7. ODNY.BOX

ODNY.BOX is a food storage concept with an intuitive control dial and a minimal aesthetic for users to store any type of leftover, from hot baked cookies to cold Greek yogurt. Inspired by the bulbous shape that water makes when it drops on flat surfaces, the glass lid of ODNY.BOX comes together as half of a globe and almost curls under the platform where food is kept to ensure sealed storage. The seasons have an effect not only on the food we eat but also on how that food is kept for tomorrow. During the winter months, the hot food we order or cook at home is subject to cold temperatures, while during the warmer months, perishables like produce are the first to go bad. It’s perfect for storing your Thanksgiving leftovers!

8. The Cakedozer Cake Server

The Cakedozer Cake Server makes serving those Thanksgiving pies a piece of cake! The server is quite a nifty kitchen appliance that adds a smart mechanism to an otherwise traditional serving utensil. The smart mechanism pushes the slice of cake or pie off the server, and onto your plate. The server is available in gray and yellow. It can also be used to serve pizza as well!

9. The Lékué Vegetable Ricer

The Lékué Vegetable Ricer turns florets of cauliflower or broccoli into tiny grains that can either be used as a garnish, substituted for rice, or mixed with other ingredients to form healthy, low-carb, plant-based dishes. Yes, it surely is a niche product, as much as an avocado peeler is, or a soup spoon, or a honey stick, but it does what it intends to exceptionally well, with ease, and without electricity. Just chuck chunks of cauliflower or broccoli into the ricer, close it shut, and twist the lid a couple of times, and spokes within the inner container help break the chunks down into smaller grain-like particles, which you can then steam to use as a rice substitute, or turn into a wonderful gluten-free pizza crust! You can switch to a healthier diet with this product once your Thanksgiving binge is over!

10. The Slow Dance

Designed to be an art installation you can hang on a wall or place on a mantelpiece and stare at for hours, the Slow Dance lets you mount a variety of things within its magical frame, from feathers to flowers, to even interesting looking leaves. Switch it on, and the object within the frame begins fluttering in slow motion, without any external stimulus (you should really check out the video above). The illusion relies on two core components – a precisely engineered system within the Slow Dance’s frame, and your eye’s ability to see in 24 frames per second. The engineering lies in an electromagnet that causes the feather/flower/leaf to flutter away, and LED lighting built into the frame’s inner edge that strobes/flickers at a precisely calculated rate to make that chaotic flutter seem like slow-motion choreography. It could be a perfect decor piece for your Thanksgiving dinner party!

A silicone carrying case keeps this handcrafted tea set safe for an impromptu tea party anywhere!

Hu-Kou is a portable ceramic tea set that comes with its own carrying case, making it easier than ever to bring tea with you anywhere you go.

Tea drinking is sacred to put it simply. Every step of the brewing method matters. Different teas call for different brewing methods, making each step detail-oriented and specific. While there are tea sets that you can travel with, the available product designs in circulation typically prioritize portability over quality brewers. Designed by Xiong&Yang, the Hu-Kou is a portable tea set that returns to details for its design and creates a new way of bringing tea with you anywhere you go, without cutting any corners.

Comprised of a carrying case, tea bowl, and three teacups, Hu-Kou comes with everything you might need for an excellent cup of tea. Specifically molded to feel ergonomic by design, Hu-Kou’s tea bowl is shaped like a triangle with a built-in spout that allows users to pour tea directly from the bowl without having to remove the lid beforehand.

Fit within a silicone carrying case, Hu-Kou’s stylish case comes with a shoulder strap so it’s even easier to bring tea on the go. The carrying case keeps enough space to fit the main tea bowl in addition to three teacups. The teacups are also triangular in shape to complement the tea bowl, giving the set as a whole a more uniform feel.

Designed for the modern tea drinker, the team at Xiong&Yang hoped to create more of an experience through Hu-Kou. With this tea set, users can easily store and pour their tea from anywhere. Through innovative conceptualizing and artful craftwork, Hu-Kou’s built-in spout is designed to keep the tea from spilling when not turned to its pouring orientation.

Designers: Kurz Kurz Design and Xiong&Yang

Xiong&Yang hoped to create an ergonomic grip for Hu-Kou.

Crafted by hand, each tea set is unique by handmade design.

Every tea set comes with its own silicone carrying case that protects the ceramics and makes the tea set portable.

Imre’s Hug Cup was created to drill home the designer’s belief that, “we give special attention to things we use in our everyday life. We like to have a personal relation to the objects we touch closely, such as a cup.” The internal handle is a unique take on the mug’s traditional side handle, allowing users to securely grip Hug Cup while feeling the warmth of the liquid contents inside. Describing the mug in their own words, Imre states, “The whole cup creates an intimate tunnel through the cup itself for your finger, you may enjoy the heat of your beverage without burning your palm.”

Each piece of the Art Deco Garden Collection is inspired by Japanese Zen Gardens and the age of Art Deco. The porcelain tableware shimmers in white and is lined with hand-painted golden patterns reminiscent of the Art Deco movement. Brass accents enhance each piece’s ode to Art Deco. The Art Deco Garden Collection was designed following an involved research period that looked at many historical Japanese gardens, with an acute focus on the Tofukuji Temple Garden.

You no longer need to step out of your house to experience the precious moment of witnessing salt formation. Croatian firm BOIR brings this experience right to your home! Their product, aptly named ‘SALT’, is more than just a salt container. It is a portable saltworks whose aim is to preserve the authentic taste of natural Mediterranean Sea salt which is extremely rich with minerals and oligo-elements – about 80 of them. ‘SALT’ comes with a bottle of – Nin 28 Bé° – which is concentrated Adriatic seawater (brine). All you have to do is pour a thin layer of this brine into the salt pan and expose it to sunlight for an hour or heat it up in the oven. When the crystal pattern appears, it can be harvested with a mini rake and is ready to be served fresh!

A winner of the European Product Design Award, the One Plus Three is all about combining functionality with elegance. Designed as a series of 3 popular cutlery pieces – the spoon, fork, and knife, the cutlery comes with a parting line running through the center along with unusually tipped handles. Pull against the direction of this parting line and each cutlery piece splits into two chopsticks that can then be used to go from eating any other cuisine to eating Asian food! By integrating the tableware, One Plus Three hopes to integrate cultures too!

The Sonic Seasoning by graduation project of RCA student Mengtian Zhang is a unique creation centered on the satisfying sensory experience of listening to ASMR (Autonomous sensory meridian response) sounds even before we take a bite. This project culminated from Mengtian’s pandemic-induced lockdown experience when she took to watching ASMR cooking videos to remain stress-free. “I can feel the texture and flavor of food such as crunchiness and freshness behind the phone screen.” There Mengtian was struck with the idea of using sound and visual effects to elevate the buildup expectations of taste before the first bite hits the mouth. This resulted in the set of plates and cutlery connected to sensors for detecting touch which then triggers the appropriate notes to go with the whole eating experience.

The Anytongs were made to be a smaller, more universal alternative to the tongs you use and own. Its compact design lets it easily occupy less than half the space of your pair of tongs, while the ability to slot your own spoons and forks into it means you can use it for anything from grilling and flipping, to serving and stirring. A well-calibrated torsion-spring sits at one end of the Anytongs, giving it a wonderful snappy-springy experience that makes it incredibly easy to use, while rubber pads on its tips allow for comfortable use. The hallmark of the Anytongs (as its name really suggests) is the ability to use any flatware with it.

Pouring water

Jexter’s design process started with a relatively simple question, “How might we design an adaptive tableware to enhance the dining experience for the visually impaired?” The answer was Eatsy, a set of multi-functional tableware consisting of a plate, a bowl, a cup, and utensils designed with a unique feature, a silicone flap that can be bent to increase ease of usage while reducing the stigma by blending in with the existing tableware. The silicone flap is one of those minor changes that make all the difference – they provide unique sensory cues in a subtle manner for the visually impaired, helping them feel the edge of the container to guide them in their tasks – be it pouring water correctly into the cup, scooping food from the edge of your plate or even balancing your spoon on the edge so it does not slip into the food.

Have you ever felt that your meals required just a little more suspense? If yes, then Flyde by Felix Marx is for you! The name Flyde, meaning ‘To flow’ in Danish hints towards the unique selling point of this rather beautiful cutlery set, as it introduces an element of drama to the tabletop by precariously balancing on its sculpture-like handle.

Anthropologie’s Reusable Travel Flatware makes it easy to have all your cutlery together with you wherever you travel. With a neat nesting design, the three-piece set becomes a singular bundle that slides right into your travel bag or backpack, making it easy to carry on that camping trip, or even to work where you can bust it out during your lunch break. Made from 100% recyclable and sustainable polyamide thermoplastic that’s manufactured using renewable resources, the Reusable Travel Flatware champions convenience over everything else. Their clever design makes them easy to carry around as a set, and unlike other travel cutlery, they don’t compromise on shape/size/comfort to be portable.

Meet the hug cup, an evolution of the traditional tableware that allows you to easily hold your warm mug on those chilly days!

Hug Cup is an innovative reinterpretation of the traditional ceramic mug, replacing the conventional side handle with a central grip tunnel that serves as an internal handle for those living with joint pain or osteoarthritis.

Kitchen cups and mugs have been endlessly reimagined through design over the years. The cup’s simple form makes room for innovative design across industries, from ceramic to inclusive reinterpretations. Designer and ceramic artist, Eszter Imre offered their own take on the conventional ceramic mug, casting a center finger tunnel that makes holding the cup feel like you’re hugging warm tea and makes holding the mug easier for those who struggle with holding a mug’s traditional side handle.

Imre’s Hug Cup was created to drill home the designer’s belief that, “we give special attention to things we use in our everyday life. We like to have a personal relation to the objects we touch closely, such as a cup.”

The internal handle is a unique take on the mug’s traditional side handle, allowing users to securely grip Hug Cup while feeling the warmth of the liquid contents inside. Describing the mug in their own words, Imre states, “The whole cup creates an intimate tunnel through the cup itself for your finger, you may enjoy the heat of your beverage without burning your palm.”

While Hug Cup’s innovative handle is playful, it is also a solution-based design. For those living with joint pain, more specifically osteoarthritis, gripping mugs is a feat on its own. The central tunnel on Hug Cup allows users to hold onto the mug without altering the way their hands naturally fall. By simply sliding your thumb through the internal handle, half the battle is won. In creating Hug Cup, Imre notes, “It’s a fun, engaging object that wouldn’t make you feel like an outcast from society due to your special needs.”

Inspired by Jenga, this modular coffee maker stacks everything you need in a sleek appliance

Inspired by the build of Jenga towers, Cenga is a modular, handmade coffee set with a grinder, dripper, and canister included in a single unit.

Since coffee shops closed due to the pandemic, we’ve brought the coffee shops home–grinders, drippers, travel mugs, galore. With so many supplies needed to make a cup of coffee, storing our at-home coffee shops becomes the hard part.

Piled together like a Jenga tower, Cenga is a handmade modular coffee set conceptualized by a team of designers to bring home everything you’d find in a cafe.

Starting from the top of Cenga, a grinder for coffee beans funnels the grounds into a dripper before heating up some water and dripping that into a canister to serve. Inspired by the stacking method of Jenga blocks, the team of designers combined that with a modular build to optimize the product’s storability and portability.

Cenga’s initial inspiration was found in its portability, allowing users to enjoy coffee shops in the comfort of their own kitchens or even on the go. Narrow by design, Cenga can slip into any kitchen cabinet and still have everything you might need for a hot cup of coffee. The color scheme of Cenga also fits into almost any kitchen. The ribbed glass grinder and translucent coffee canister give Cenga a cozy personality and a fresh look.

Since COVID-19 closed down so many cafes, we’ve been itching for that cup of coffee graced by a barista’s touch. With Cenga, we’re one step closer to having all the joy of an actual cafe stored in a single kitchen cabinet. Stacked into a single unit like a Jenga tower, Cenga comes with a grinder, dripper, and coffee canister.

Designers: Joohyung Park, Seonghwa Lim, Eojin Roh, & Jihye Park

Like posting photos of your coffee on Instagram? This beautifully rustic ceramic + wooden cup is perfect for the gram

Picture yourself at the foothills of the Himalayas, a bonfire in front of you, a sunrise ahead of you, a herd of yaks in the distance. You’re sitting with your Sherpa, sipping a perfectly brewed batch of coffee from your Mountain and Sea Coffee Mug.

If brewing coffee is an art, it only makes sense that the cup you drink it from does the brew justice too. Designed with an incredibly rustic sculptural appeal, Coffeify’s Mountain And Sea mugs come with a ceramic body and a wooden handle that exudes an earthy warmth. The ceramic mug is finished with a stone-like texture, and comes with relief-work of mountains and oceans on its base, while the cup itself sports a beautiful black to turquoise gradient glaze… with that wooden handle giving the design a wonderful finishing touch.

The mugs are available as a 3-piece set, featuring the mug itself, a lid to keep your beverage warm for as long as possible, and a removable container with a mesh base for being able to brew your coffee or tea. The ceramic mugs offer a heat resistance of up to 302°F (150°C) and are food-safe and microwave-safe (without the mesh).

All of Coffeify’s ceramic mugs are hand-made on a potter’s wheel, before being hand-finished with the stone-like texture. Finally, the cups are finished with a highly saturated glaze that doesn’t lose color or fade over time, before the wooden handle gets glued in place. The mugs are travel-friendly (just make sure you pack them safely), although Coffeify’s website mentions that they aren’t safe for the dishwasher, so they need to be washed/rinsed by hand. The mugs hold up to 450ml of liquid (that’s slightly less than a Starbucks grande) and are available for a discounted $49 on Coffeify’s website.

This siphon coffee maker uses its analog mechanisms to bring home the joy of a café

Cosie is a siphon coffee maker designed to bring the emotional experience of watching your coffee brew at a cafe into the comfort of your own kitchen.

Now that brewing your own cup of coffee is considered a survival skill, finding the right coffee maker should be at the top of our priority lists. Since quarantine dragged us out of coffee shops, when it came to making coffee, we were left to our own devices, literally.

Missing that special barista touch when cafes were temporarily closed during the pandemic, a team of designers created a siphon coffee machine called Cosie that brings the faithful analog experience of big coffee shop machines to the comfort of your own kitchen.

Going to the coffee shop is not only a prerequisite for starting the day, it’s an emotional experience. We look forward to few things like we look forward to our first cup of coffee in the morning. In an attempt to capture that emotional experience and incorporate it into an at-home coffee brewer, the team behind Cosie built their machine with double-layered glass canisters that allow users to watch as their coffee is extracted and brewed.

Since Cosie is a siphon machine, the coffee inside the canisters is extracted through steam pressure generated by boiling water, a process that users can watch while brewing their own coffee. The integrated siphon also makes the general upkeep and management of Cosie much easier to keep up with. After spooning in their desired amount of coffee grinds into the machine’s top compartment, users need only fill the main cartridge with water and turn its handle clockwise to kickstart the brewing process.

From there, the water boils and generates steam pressure to extract the coffee in the machine’s top canister. During this entire process, Cosie makes fine adjustments to the amount of steam released, ensuring that your brew won’t be too strong or watered down. Once you’ve reached your coffee quota for the day, you can clean Cosie easily by filling its cup with only water and let it go through a single brew cycle.
