MIT’s color-changing ink could let you customize your shoes

Imagine if, rather than buy your favorite shoes in blue or red, you could buy one pair of shoes and change the color depending on how you feel each day. Maybe you'd decide to add multicolored flames or zebra print. A new, reprogrammable ink might let...

Handbag Dyetonator Will Make Purse Snatchers Very Sorry

Are you worried that a thief will steal your handbag and run off with it? Well stop your worrying. Malaysian sportswear company Ash Be Nimble has a new solution. It is called the Handbag Dyetonator. It is a small accessory that blows smoke and covers the bad guy in ink, marking them for the police to collect later.

Think of it as one of those bank dye packs, but for civilian use. The Dyetonator is triggered by an SMS message, so there is no real range limit either. Plus even if the thief gets away, the Dyetonator has a GPS tracker. So it will catch the perp either way,  though it’s likely that the contents of your bag might be ruined by the dye.

Purse snatchers might think twice if something like this were widely used. At this point, the Dyetonator is the prototype phase, but it looks like they’re accepting signups for a trial edition on the project website already.

Lumi Process Lets You Print on Fabric – Using Sunlight!

If you’ve ever tried to do tie-dye projects, then you know they can be messy and exhausting if you’re not careful. Plus, the results are unpredictable, so sometimes you can end up with neat threads while you might get some blah-looking patterns for all the other times. As an alternative, there’s Inkodye.

Lumi InkodyeThe entire thing is based on the Lumi process, which makes use of the Inkodye. Inkodyes are mixable, dilutable, and water-based dyes which develop their color under the sunlight. Its makers mean for people to use its light-sensitive properties to their advantage to create artistic prints and even transfer photographic images onto fabric.

The project is currently up for funding on Kickstarter. For a minimum pledge of $35 (USD), you can get a complete Inkodye starter kit that contains everything you need to start dyeing.
