A compact, countertop-friendly dishwasher is inspired by elephant bathing rituals

Elle is a compact dishwasher shaped like an elephant that’s designed to clean the dishes used during a small family meal.

Even if you’re one of the few who enjoys doing the dishes, cleaning up after a big meal can get tiring. In a perfect world, we’d take care of the dishes as soon as we’re finished using them. But following a big meal, all we want to do is cozy up on the living room couch and enjoy the consequences of our food comas.

Designer: Stalin Jr.

Alas, the dishes still pile up in the sink and we must tend to our most human of responsibilities. To help make the chore feel a bit more approachable, industrial designer Stalin Jr. conceptualized Elle, a miniature dishwasher shaped like an elephant that scales down dishwashing to its most compact size.

Inspired by the bathing rituals of elephants in the wild, Stalin Jr. designed Elle’s silhouette to resemble the shape of an elephant’s rump. Scaled-down from the size of an actual elephant’s rump to around the same size as an air dryer, Elle is compact enough to fit right on any kitchen countertop.

In conceptualizing Elle, Stalin Jr. explored the possibilities of what a dishwasher could look like in regards to its unique shape and compact size. Primarily conceived for the nuclear family, Elle is compact enough to remain out of the way when not in use and big enough to clean all of the dishes and utensils needed for an intimate family dinner in one wash.

Elle functions as the go-to appliance in between meals, when there aren’t enough dirty dishes to use the full-size dishwasher, but you still want to keep the sink free of dirty dishes. Equipped with all of the functions needed for a thorough cleaning, Elle comes with a touch-automated control panel and wall-mountable water inlet valve.

Incredible ‘Elle’ Painting Every ‘Stranger Things’ Fan Needs

Elle Stranger Things Painting Poster

When something becomes a pop culture phenomenon, it grows way beyond the realms of its original medium. Stranger Things and Elle, or Eleven if you prefer, are a perfect example of something crossing over into all forms of arts, which leads to beautiful works like this wonderful painting.

The talented Barrett Biggers made a wonderful poster, with Elle as the star, her nose bleeding, the monster in her mind (which might hint towards a popular fan theory), and below, the contrast between our world and The Upside Down, with Mike, Dustin and Lucas riding on their bikes.

The poster comes in museum quality Giclèe ink print on archival EPSON professional metallic photo luster, exhibition watercolor or exhibition matte canvas media, with size options of 16″x20, 22″x28″ and 24″x36″.

Each print is hand designed by the artist and signed by him in the bottom right hand corner in the white border area.

According to the Amazon page it takes about 2 to 3 days to create, and currently costs $45, which is totally worth it for something this unique.

This is what it looks like compared to a person:

And this is the Elle painting hanging on a wall, for a living room scale:

Personally, what I love about this work is how bigger than life Elle looks. Well, the more we find out about her in the show, she does seem almost like an all-powerful deity. Whether or not the monster from The Upside Down is really just a part of her, which is why the two disappear together, or some other thing, it doesn’t matter. As grande and beautiful as Elle is, she’s also quite scary, especially when she’s pissed off.

No Limits For A Swim

Combining a prosthetic leg and swimwear in a clever design, Della Tosin hopes to sufficiently enhance an amputee’s swimming experience. The design aims at balancing, maximizing energy return from launch off and flip-turns, and supporting the body through the latest technology. The wearable suit will assist single-leg amputees to compete with regular swimmers.

Here is how it works:

  • Elle leg provides an adjustable air chamber to control buoyancy and help amputees to maintain their streamlined position in the water.
  • The frame will be personalized to match the volume of the amputee’s other leg and it is made out of woven elastane-nylon and polyurethane, a material that repels water to increase buoyancy.
  • Elle leg has a flexed ankle made out of a metal plate to increase energy return, interchangeable to match an individual’s strength, and has an elastic band on the back, which will helps users launch off with reduced energy loss.
  • The prosthetic leg comes with a vacuum socket that reduces pain and improves endurance.
  • It is 3D printed, adjusted to one’s measurement to create the perfect balance.
