Let’s just say I’m a “fan” of these sketch pens!

Created as a cross between a Pantone shade card and a stationery set, the Pen Fan fits 8 different flat-head sketch pens in a small, easy-to-carry set. The flat pens are connected to each other, forming a neat Japanese-fan style layout that displays all the 8 colors for you to pick and choose from. Each individual sketch pen is detachable too, allowing you to snap off and on pens to create a palette of your choice! Stationery-hoarders, you’ve been warned!

The Pen Fan is a winner of the Red Dot Design Concept Award for the year 2019.

Every dongle you’d possibly need, around your keychain

In a world full of technology that is fragmented between USB, Micro-USB, Type-C, and Lightning connectors, something as small and unsuspecting as the High Five cable helps in uniting all technology. It’s amazing that something as small as this, barely 7 centimeters in length, packs every single port combination you’d need for your smartphones, tablets, power banks, and laptops. Packed with a USB, Type-C and a one-of-a-kind Micro-USB/Lightning hybrid port. This arrangement practically works for any product/OS combination you have. Windows laptop and iPhone? You’re sorted. MacBook and Android phone? Taken care of. iPhone and Type-C based power bank? The High-Five has a solution for that too.

The High-Five is housed inside a pretty neat, compact metal case with three perceivable parts. It has a Type-C port, and a MicroUSB/Lightning hybrid port, connected to each other by a thick, silicone, tangle-free cable. These two ports stick to each other magnetically, and fit/dock inside a USB port, giving you every single port combination you’d need for charging or for data transfer.

The cleverness of the High-Five also lies in its weirdly clever hybridization of the MicroUSB and Lightning ports. Designed as a single port, the designers at Vonmählen and Emami Design combined the two least universal port designs into one, because there’s practically zero likelihood of you needing a lightning-to-microUSB cable in today’s day and age. This combination, as well as the overall product’s layout, allows the High-Five to be, as its name suggests, a 5-in-1 cable that you can use with practically any sort of gadget across any operating system and standard.

The High-Five even secured an iF Design Award this year for its innovative and compact dongle-to-rule-all-dongles. Available in a classy metal or colored ABS plastic body, the High-Five is small enough to securely sit on your keychain, or even be looped around an organizer ring in your backpack. It surely beats having to carry 5 different (or even 2 different) lengthy cables along with you that end up getting entangled, frayed, or lost. Literally the last charging and data-transfer dongle you’d need, the High-Five was made to be truly universal, and with its layout and prioritization of ports, should work with all products from 5 years ago or even with products 5 years into the future!

Robo-arms are getting a makeover!

mts_robo_1

Component deformation… force transmission… nanotechnology… these are just a few fancy terms for describing this far-out twist on the robotic arm. Until now, gripper arms have only been composed of complex structures and hydraulic motors which are prone to complication. The Magnetic Transformation Structure reimagines the robot and uses an intelligent, unique and globally applicable principle to make things simpler and more precise.

The principle of this structure begins with parallel sequential segments that are arranged on a flexible material. In the center of each segment is a metal core, which allows a magnetic field to be specifically generated via electrical current in each individual segment. The adjacent segments that are magnetized to have like magnetic poles will repel each other. With unlike magnetic poles, they attract each other. Since the segments are bound to the flexible plate only at the base, the magnetic forces generate a torque that naturally bends the plate.

The result is more economical production, faster reaction times as a result of targeted force transmission, uncomplicated deformation of mechanical components and more flexibility than the hydraulic systems this tech aims to replace.

Power on a Roll

rolling_snake_01

Rolling Snake G1 combines the protective properties of cable bridges with the flexibility of classic extension cables on a cable reel. This all-in-one extension cable and cable bridge is a major save-spacing solution and eliminates the need for transporting cable bridges. No extra installation is required and it’s ready to use immediately. Other advantages include complete waterproofing, adaptability to all soils and environment, and warning stripes that ensure better safety.

Water see, Water do..

aqualize_shower_1

Technology aims at doing what humans can’t. For example, imaging a human following you into your bath. Freaky right? But the Aqualize shower does pretty much the same thing without all the creepiness. Crazy analogy aside, here’s what Aqualize is all about. For most people, a shower is another word for liberation. You dance, you chill, you break into song, you meditate. However’ it’s sad to know that your happy zone is just a 1ft. X 1ft. square.

The Aqualize gets rid of that ridiculous problem, giving your brain more space to ponder over other things. The Aqualize shower is a massive square shaped fixture. It uses sensors to detect where you are, allowing water to fall on you and follow you. This gives you a wider stage for your shower theatrics! Plus, the interface is pretty slick too!

Pack In A Punch

The Puncho is an innovative boxing glove that integrates sensors. These help make the gloves ‘intelligent’ and measure details like the force of the punch, the speed and the result of the impact. Such feedback helps the athlete to measure their performance and improve their game.

Power Of The Sunflower

Trust Emami Design to come out with concepts that refine present iterations and take them to the next level by adding that extra layer of innovation. The Powerflower takes on the typical sunflower as solar power hub and what makes it innovative is that like the flower, this mechanical version follows the sun. Simple, clean design with an edge! Great going!

Little LEGO Windmills

Inspired by the building blocks and modularity of LEGOs, the Windflock is a wind-energy system that is flexible. The ‘add-on’ system is made of mini windmills and can be hooked up with each other. The cool quotient is upped by the fact that when connected, the mini windmills resemble a 3D crystal composition.

The Windflock is a 2014 Red Dot Awards: Design Concept winner.

New Kinda Spy Cam

The Zipper is a flying indoor camera and recording device that can be used in a number of scenarios. The device uses the principle of gas balloons and combines it with the wit of propellers driven by a precision electric motor. Basically the hovering camera moves around a room very fast and silently and doesn’t consume much energy.

Application fields:

  • Film productions: unrestricted camera work
  • Surveillance: flexible monitoring of public locations like department stores, train stations, etc.
  • Security: video inspection in hard to access places like cable chutes and sewers
  • Private: webcam, babysitting, etc. or as a toy
  • Further recording options (sound, heat and radio activity) are possible with the matching sensors

Two precision electric motors with propellers that are controlled via a processor allow horizontal movements. The alignment angle of the electric motors can also be controlled magnetically via the processor so that the Zipper is able to change its height flexibly and fast with these motors. The camera can be panned by 270 degrees, which allows different perspective also in standstill. Zipper can design recordings through different camera perspectives very dynamically and flexibly, which results in completely new possibilities in camera work. This means that the director can determine the motion path and speed of the camera beforehand three-dimensionally without having to deal with any restrictions or obstacles in the room. This allows novel and free design when changing scenes and perspectives. The motion path and speed can be set either beforehand in a 3D program or in realtime and interactively via joystick or remote control. The recorded images and further information are transmitted parallel, directly and wireless to other devices like computers or smartphones.

Function mode:

Zipper uses hydrogen as gas in order to float in the air like a balloon. The required gas quantity is controlled exactly via a processor using measurement and control technology so that the Zipper is always located at the desired height.

Water Electrolysis:

A charging station supplies the Zipper with energy and hydrogen. In doing so, water molecules are split into oxygen and hydrogen by means of electrolysis. The additionally generated oxygen is released into the air and ensures a good room climate. The charging station is supplied via low-voltage direct current and must only be refilled with water occasionally.

Zipper is a 2012 red dot award: design concept winner.
