Innovative muscle oxygen monitor helps take your workouts to the next level

Most people probably think that training for competitive sports is just a matter of repeating a series of exercises with increasing intensity. That, however, is an extremely simplistic and quite dangerous strategy because our bodies are just machines. Knowing when to push harder and when to stop isn’t just a matter of feeling it and athletes have to rely on medical science and equipment to properly set their pace. That can be quite costly and inconvenient, especially for budding athletes or people with active lifestyles. Fortunately, you don’t need to break your wallet or become a scientist yourself just to get the information you need at the right time, thanks to this revolutionary wearable that lets you measure your muscle’s oxygen level so that you can train more efficiently and avoid injuries at the same time.

While heart rate monitors and blood oxygen (SpO2) monitors are important health indicators, they aren’t the only factors to consider when exercising, whether it’s for an upcoming competition or simply getting into shape. Oxygen saturation in muscles or SmO2 is just as critical because it’s what draws the line between just pushing the limits and fatigue. You can be breathing normally or taking in lots of oxygen, but your muscles might not actually be getting them properly. Unfortunately, this is something that can’t be accurately measured by smartwatches or trackers, and traditional methods are either too invasive or too bulky to really help athletes. That’s where CLOMP comes in, a muscle oxygen measurement device that you wear around your thigh to deliver real-time data without getting in your way.

CLOMP works by utilizing medical-grade functional near-infrared spectroscopy or fNIRS, the same technology used to monitor brain activity, oxygenation, and blood flow. It works almost in the same way as SpO2 or blood oxygen sensors that shine light through the skin and measure the reflected light to determine how much oxygen is being carried by the hemoglobin and myoglobin molecules in muscles and tissues. It’s an effective way to do non-invasive Lactate Threshold (LT) tests that tell when fatigue is about to set in.

With this information at hand, you or your coach can determine the most optimal training strategy while also reducing the risk of injury. It can even measure how much fat you’re burning by correlating muscle oxygen saturation (SmO2) with O2 intake and CO2 outtake, allowing you to tailor your training intensity based on your diet and calorie goals.

Despite its advanced functionality, using CLOMP couldn’t be easier. You simply strap the exercise band or patch on your thigh and you’re literally good to go. The wearable is so lightweight and ergonomic that it won’t drag you down and add to your body’s stress. CLOMP gathers data as you train and feeds it to the CLOMP app on your connected smartphone, where this data is interpreted and presented in a way that’s easy to digest and take action on.

Like many smart health platforms today, CLOMP will be able to use this information to not only guide you but also to suggest personalized workout plans, designed with USA Triathlon certified coach Gerardo Barrios, that fit your specific body’s needs and goals.

As with many things in life, the secret to training and exercise success isn’t just a matter of working harder. You also need to be smarter and more efficient, pushing your body to the limits while reducing the risk of injuries. That requires keeping track of the different biometrics of your body, which has traditionally been costly and cumbersome to do. With the CLOMP muscle oxygen measuring device, you get a medical-grade device to get the personalized information you need in a comfortable and ergonomic wearable that helps you work your way to gold the smarter and safer way.

This smart pull-up bar enhances home workout regimes with goal-oriented approach

Working out is the best thing you can do for a healthy lifestyle but some skip this regime owing to time constraints. Having a home gym setup is the best option to get over this quandary, provided it is a compact one. That’s because elaborate gym setups take up a lot of space and most homes don’t have this luxury. More so when city apartment living is a trend and space is a luxury.

This calls for a compact smart gym that takes up minimum space with maximum results when it comes to working out each day. The best thing you can invest in is a pull-up bar and also perform daily push-ups. For the former one needs specialized equipment, while the latter can be performed anywhere. So how about a smart pull-up bar that integrates with your other smart home gym equipment?

Designer: Louis Berger

Pull-ups can be great for toning back muscles, shoulders, forearms and triceps – provided the form is correct and other parts of the body are not unnecessarily strained. This smart pull-up bar dubbed Grip is designed to ensure that each one of your pull-ups is as perfect as it can be. The smart sensors on the hand grips and middle section of the bar keep track of the correct posture and beam prompts if anything is out of order.

The integrated smartphone app keeps track of your daily activity and creates automatic workout plans best suited for you. The added sensors for tracking body fat and muscle mass guide you through the process to achieve the desired fit body shape. This smart bar can be combined with other workout accessories to widen the scope of workouts possible at home without the need for any bulky machines.

Grip pull-up bar can be adjusted for the best ergonomic positioning depending on each individual’s needs. Thus, making it a compact workout accessory for any kind of fitness enthusiast who doesn’t want to restrict daily workouts due to constricted indoor space.

Yamaha Design Lab The Gripper lets you exercise your fingers like a saxophone player

Yamaha is a brand that evokes two different images depending on who you ask. Some might know it best for its musical instruments and audio equipment, while motorists might be more familiar with its motorcycles. Although they seem to have nothing in common other than their name, they do share a common passion for well-designed products. There are many when the two companies come together to put pool their creative minds and come up with designs that showcase their shared passions and visions. This hand grip concept is one such example, combining expertise in musical instruments and metalwork to create an odd-looking hand exercising tool that you might wish you could buy someday.

Designer: Yamaha Design Laboratory

A hand gripper is definitely an odd choice for a product from both Yamaha companies, even if it’s just a concept. Then again, whether you’re playing musical instruments or driving a motorcycle, you need to have dexterous hands. Regularly exercising them is one way of maintaining or building up hand and wrist strength, and hand grips like these are one of the most common ways to do that.

Of course, “The Gripper” is clearly not your typical hand grip. The most common hand grips are just two plastic or padded grips with a coiled metal in between for resistance, though there are more sophisticated ones that use buttons with springs for each finger. Yamaha Design Lab’s concept mixes these two types together in a rather eccentric way that makes The Gripper look more like a musical instrument than a tool.

There is a typical palm grip, though it is made of natural sculpted wood that gives it a warm and soft touch in contrast to plastic or rubber. It contrasts with the cold metal pipes that make up the actual grip that branches out into five different paths, one for each finger, including the thumb. Rather than simple buttons, however, each “key” is a concave metal disc that lets your finger rest on it securely without fear of slipping off. This gives the finger grips an unusual aesthetic that makes them look like the same keys on a saxophone or trumpet. In fact, you can operate each key separately like on those instruments, letting you move and exercise each finger differently.

There is also a mechanism that lets you adjust the length of each pipe to accommodate different finger lengths. This rather unusual design helps increase the tension for better exercise while also offering a unique feeling of delicate manipulation for every finger. In other words, it creates a whole new experience that provides stress relief and exercise in an aesthetically pleasing and interesting package. Unfortunately, The Gripper is fated to remain a concept unless Yamaha changes its mind after receiving strong demand for such a quirky design.

Modular home fitness equipment also serves as a low table when not in use

There has been a rise in interest in personal fitness in the past few years, which naturally meant a rise in home fitness equipment products as well. This category was once populated by treadmills and stationary bikes, but there is also a variety of other machines or designs that try to assist in a number of exercises. Many of these pieces of equipment take up a lot of space in your home or might be too complicated to use. On the other hand, smaller exercise tools usually cover one or two exercises only, forcing you to buy other kinds that will end up taking up just as much space. There are quite a few fitness products that try to condense all these things into a more compact design, but this rather creative solution approaches that problem from a different angle and allows you to use it as a piece of furniture on days you’re not exercising.

Designer: TRUS

One of the few advantages of going to a gym is the availability of different machines that exercise different parts of your body. That variety is hard to pull off at home with single equipment that focuses on only two or three types of exercises. It might be impossible to really fit all the exercise machines into a single piece of equipment, but there are certain ways to deliver the same kind of workout by using different movements instead.

The TRUS Box uses that principle and gives it a slightly different twist. At first glance, it looks just like a low coffee table or shelf, which is actually part of its appeal. In reality, however, it separates into different parts that you can reconfigure and connect with different accessories to allow you to perform different sets of exercises that cover cardio, strength, aerobics, and everything in between.

For example, if you take one of the top wooden panels and attach the removable feet under it, you get a low stepping board. If you run one of the resistance ropes under it, you can start doing biceps curls instead. The main body can be used as a jumping box, for bench pushups, and more. There’s definitely a lot of flexibility in how you can mix and match pieces for different exercises while also using some parts on their own, such as the door anchors for curls and presses.

As mentioned, you can also use the TRUS Box as a piece of furniture, though you’ll definitely have to make sure that the wooden surfaces are clean before placing food or drinks on top. The box also acts as a storage bin for the exercise bar, ropes, and anything else that can fit. The compact size of the box makes it possible to even stash it inside the car trunk if you ever want to work out elsewhere. The versatility of the design makes TRUS an interesting product, not just because of the exercises it enables but also because it lets you reuse the space that it occupies for something else.

Top 10 exercise equipment you need to achieve your dream body at home

If you’re one of those motivated souls who have some focused fitness goals to achieve this year – then you’ve reached the right place. However, if you’re not a total gym rat, and don’t enjoy hitting the gym every day, then a disciplined home workout regime may be the perfect solution for you. And to do so, you definitely need a great collection of exercise equipment to support your workout routine, and goals. This collection of exercise equipment will not only motivate you to work out in the comfort of your own home, but will also ensure you stick to your daily exercise routine in the future. From a clever and thoughtful home gym that merges with your living room to a rowing machine that uses a minimalistic and recyclable design – these innovative exercise equipment will prevent you from skipping leg day.

1. Tempo Move

This compact home gym is more than just an exercise assistant. This fitness accessory is designed to stand next to your furniture in the living room and eliminate your runs to the store room for gymming. Tempo Move is a sublime blend of materials, colors, and finishes, which makes it a discrete piece of furniture to turn your living space into a home gym.

Why is it noteworthy?

The workout equipment goes behind the fabric cabinet while the top feature an iPhone dock compatible with iPhone XR and upward. With the unique combination of furniture and gym, Tempo Move connects to any large-screen TV to let you see your exercise routine and have the trainers coach you in real-time.

What we like

  • Unless you open the cabinet, anyone would mistake it for an elegant cabinet you’d bought from Wayfair
  • The neat-looking Tempo Move console houses within its cabinetry 16 weight plates, 4 weight collars, 2 dumbbells, and a heart rate monitor

What we dislike

  •  The design could be more interactive
  • No customizable elements

2. Denim-covered Gym Equipment

These pieces are already unique and distinctive on their own. After all, who would have dreamed up gym equipment covered in this blue fabric? A relatively soft DJ booth is also a bit ironic when you think about it, and a denim wall paneling almost makes you want to run into it for fun.

Why is it noteworthy?

Denim today has become a part of both everyday wear as well as the haute-couture world, but it also once symbolized the American dream. It has left an indelible mark on human culture, and this odd yet beautiful selection of furniture and products for the home honors that history while also emphasizing how much denim is part of everyday life, at home, at work, and work-from-home.

What we like

  • The use of denim is quite unique and intriguing
  • Makes a statement about the modern lifestyle

What we dislike

  • Seeing how working out can be a sweaty affair, we are not sure how easy it would be to maintain the denim covered equipments

3. Spin&Row

Aptly titled the ‘Spin&Row’, this award-winning gym-machine concept lets you work your cardio and legs while cycling, and your arms and core while rowing.

Why is it noteworthy?

Designed to offer people the best of both worlds, the Spin&Row was created during the pandemic when exercising at home was practically the only feasible option available to people. Moreover, its X-shaped folding design lets it easily occupy less floor space when shut, making it perfect for homes and apartments.

What we like

  • It enables the user to switch between fitness modes by adjusting the angle of the X structure
  • It fulfills multiple fitness functions in a small space

What we dislike

  • After folding, the product still looks like an gym equipment and may not look good with your interiors

4. The GYMO-FIT

Meet the GYMO-FIT concept motorbike that has the typical urban commuter vibes, and a sturdy exercise bike to keep fit. The uncertain times in the last couple of years have prompted people to go for home fitness setups – that’s why exercise bikes have grown in popularity in recent times.

Why is it noteworthy?

This concept bike doubles as a two-wheeler at least and doesn’t sit in a lonely corner in your living room, in case you give up on your fitness regime. It’s a combination of an electric bike with aerobic and anaerobic fitness equipment. GYMO has three different modes when parked sturdily on the stand.

What we like

  • Functions as a two-wheeler and an exercise equipment

What we dislike

  • We’re not sure if it’s truly a viable option in the real world

5. Lora

Lora is a concept for an indoor rowing machine that is hoping to ease the boredom of working out while still giving you the aerobic workout that you need.

Why is it noteworthy?

It also wants to find the balance between humans and the environment by using plastic and aluminum that can eventually be recycled when the product reaches its end of life. To also help you not get that bored while working out, there is a stand to attach to your smartphone or small tablet so you can watch something else while working out.

What we like

  • It is able to bring together engineering structure and technology to come up with a machine that will help you burn fat and help lessen waste with its recyclable material

What we dislike

  • No method has been discussed to disassemble or fold the rower to make it a space-saving design

6. Peleton Vibe

Peloton Vibe caters to every sense and muscle from start to finish, it is truly a whole vibe. The bench has a unique multi-position arm that can be moved to work with a variety of exercises.

Why is it noteworthy?

The lower portion stores a set of dumbbells that help expand to a larger range of guided workouts by the Peloton App service. Once you complete your workout, the bench seat and arm surface seamlessly transform into a massage experience. It utilizes built-in massage balls that can rotate and heat up based on your preferences. At-home gym equipment AND at-home spa? I would work out more often simply so I can make the most of the heated massage feature.

What we like

  • Has a unique multi-position arm that can be moved to work with a variety of exercises
  • Peloton Vibe also doubles up as flexible home furniture

What we dislike

  • Space-consuming design

7. Bownce

Bownce is a small ball that can get you perspiring and training your muscle groups with the help of technology. It calls itself “the first IoT ball of its kind”.

Why is it noteworthy?

It is small enough and easy to install that you can bring it with you to the office, outside in your backyard, or wherever room/space in your house you feel most comfortable. It’s also small enough that it’s not that intimidating, especially for newbies like me that want to start punching things.

What we like

  • What makes it different from other workout balls, aside from its size, is that it has integrated electric components so you’ll be able to track your performance
  • The app that you connect to the device logs your punches when you work out and gives you real-time statistics

What we dislike

  • Not sure on how it can replicate the physical feel of a punching bag

8. AROUND

This concept for a spinning bike called AROUND tries to have a softer look as compared to those super serious exercise bikes you see in gyms. The light gray color makes it more approachable and the flywheel body design makes it ideal to have at home, as part of your living room furniture, or even in your bedroom. The mood board for their design concept includes mollusks and portable water purifiers as well as other previous designs from Yifeeling.

Why is it noteworthy?

This exercise bike also has a tuyere-like design instead of just the regular faucet handle seen on exercise machines so you get a bit of breeze while you’re spinning. This should be able to simulate the air flowing through you at least if you’re biking outdoors. There’s a small monitor in the handle so you can watch something while biking as some find it a bit boring to just cycle indoors.

What we like

  • The tuyere-like design allows you to get a bit of breeze while spinning
  • Soft aesthetics

What we dislike

  • The seat looks pretty uncomfortable

9. Gymera

Gymera revolutionizes home fitness by providing a more enjoyable exercise system that fits right in your home. It even folds up to serve as a full-body mirror that adds a beautiful accent to your home!

Why is it noteworthy?

Gameful design has long been a successful strategy in many industries, and Gymera applies it to fitness to make your reps more engaging and memorable. Whether you’re driving a race car, rowing a boat, or playing tug of war with a Gymera friend, the interactive puts a whole new layer of experience into your workouts. The smart home gym machine is equipped with a variety of sensors and a vivid 27-inch 4K touch screen that helps immerse you in that virtual world to the point that you might even forget you’re actually sweating it out at home.

What we like

  • The 5MP camera easily lets you and your friends enjoy a Facetime workout together even when you’re far apart
  • Gymera’s AI system can analyze your posture in real time and give you feedback on your form

What we dislike

  • Hefty price tag

10. Boom

Designed by Shuxian Hong, Boom is a smart boxing bag meant to bring the workout experience to your home. It integrates a punching bag, a smart speaker, and interactive illumination technology into a streamlined boxing experience, designed specifically for your home.

Why is it noteworthy?

When not being used to actually box, Boom can function as a home speaker, that perfectly merges with the rest of your living space. You can pair it up with your TV or other smart devices, and activate it via Siri or Alexa, through a simple command. When you use Boom to box, the interactive lighting system starts up! Lighting elements, lively music, and voice instructions create a truly interactive and engaging boxing experience.

What we like

  • Functions as exercise equipment, and a speaker

What we dislike

  • It’s not a real tangible product yet!

The world’s most compact rowing machine is about the size of a backpack, making it perfect for home workouts

It’s lightweight, silent, and about 90% cheaper than the Peloton Row.

My most vivid memory of a rowing machine comes from the first-ever Netflix original series, House Of Cards. The rowing machine, kept in President-to-be Frank Underwood’s basement, was a symbol of perseverance, of man versus machine. It would be the place where Underwood went to fight his demons, and the machine would be his ultimate challenge. This machine was large and noisy, and therefore had to be kept in a basement. Turns out, modern rowing machines don’t have to be that imposing on the senses.

Meet the ROWBRO, a rowing machine that ticks all the boxes – size, versatility, and price. Designed to be compact enough to carry, and to be used and stored in most homes, the ROWBRO weighs 26 lbs or 12 kilograms and folds down to the shape and size of a backpack. It locks onto any doorway and uses a magnet-based resistance system that’s not only lighter than the ones found on existing rowing machines, but it’s silent too. The moving seat on the ROWBRO uses the same wheels found on inline skates, giving you a smooth experience that doesn’t damage your floor. Adjust the resistance on the ROWBRO to suit your training requirements and dock a phone or a tablet with its built-in stand and you’ve got a cutting-edge rowing machine that’s affordable, silent, fun to use, and will count your reps and progress, giving you a comprehensive report of your exercise.

Rowing is one of those rare exercises that perfectly combines strength training and cardio together, activating as many as 85% of your entire body’s muscles for a truly effective workout. However, given that not all of us are conveniently located near lakes or rivers to indulge in such an exercise, ROWBRO makes for a much more compelling alternative than the other exorbitantly priced rowers on the market. Made in Europe with a patent-pending design that’s the result of a partnership with German engineers, the ROWBRO is perfect for most homes. Its $325 price tag makes it a MUCH better alternative to a Peloton, and what’s more- the ROWBRO can be used for bicep curls, and it comes with a built-in pull-up bar that you can use for pull-ups too.

ROWBRO also comes with a pull-up bar so you can work your biceps and much more.

Setting up the ROWBRO is a simple four-step process. Place the machine in any standard doorway or attach it a wall with the wall mount, and lock it in place with the pull-up bar attachment. Fold out the guide rail for the seat, and then place the seat on it. Finally, and optionally, place your smartphone or tablet in the ROWBRO’s stand and you’re all ready to begin exercising. A knob on the side lets you adjust the resistance, going from novice to pro, and the free app (available on iOS and Android devices) lets you time your workout session, track reps/laps and even count the calories you burnt. Future updates to the app will also include a premium membership with features such as live classes and fun games.

The ROWBRO starts at $328 for the ultimate early bird version or $407 with a wall-mount and pull-up bar included, and comes with a 1-year warranty.

This AI-enabled smart camera is like the gym-version of Nintendo Wii

Instead of going to the gym and ‘meeting people’ (ugh), AIMOOV brings the comfort of a gym trainer to your house. Except there’s no trainer – it’s all AI! Designed to be what I can only describe as the world’s smallest gym instructor, AIMOOV is an artificially intelligent smart camera that aids your home workouts by tracking your progress and also correcting you when you’re exercising wrong. It works in real-time, syncs with your fitness-tracking apps, and simply needs to be plugged into a display like your TV to give you an AI-enhanced gym experience right in the comfort of your own home.

Designer: AI BRIGHT

Click Here to Buy Now: $205 $315 ($110 off). Hurry, less than 48 hours left!

Plug the camera into your TV using the HDMI port and your AIMOOV is effectively set up. The camera’s AI can recognize different users, allowing you to create unique profiles and track your own progress on your own time, and it even registers gestures, allowing you to select or skip exercises, toggle between exercise types like Yoga and Pilates, or even pause when the going gets tough and you need a quick breather.

The pandemic created the perfect storm for home-based fitness, but with all the home gyms and tiny modular fitness devices we’ve covered, the one serious flaw that’s remained is the lack of supervision. The one caveat with most home gyms is the absence of an expert telling you whether you’re exercising properly or not – a feature that’s incredibly important if you A. want to stay safe, and B. want to see results. AIMOOV does this by using AI which can track your body movements to see if you’re maintaining the right form and posture. The AI provides feedback in real-time, while also counting your reps just the way a human instructor would. AIMOOV’s app provides a detailed breakdown of your workout, while also connecting to your fitness-app ecosystem (like Apple Health and Google Fit) to help it track your workouts. You can even connect your Spotify to the AIMOOV for a nice, pumping music-filled workout!

AIMOOV on your smartphone and smartwatch.

The entire device is roughly the size of half a soda can, giving a fair bit of credence to the fact that this might just be the world’s smallest gym instructor ever. The smart camera comes with an ultrawide-angle lens and Sony’s STARVIS imaging technology running on a Hexacore CPU. It pairs with your smartphone via Bluetooth 5.0, and stores data on the cloud in compliance with GDPR for user safety. For added security, the AIMOOV comes with a security cover that lets you physically block the camera when you don’t want it recording you. It doesn’t have a built-in microphone and runs entirely on USB-C (without a battery) so the smart cam is off when the power is off. The AIMOOV experience is split across its hardware (the camera) as well as its software (the app, AI, and training program catalogs). For a limited time, backers can grab the AIMOOV camera for €192 ($205) and receive a free lifetime subscription to the app and its ever-expanding catalog of exercises and virtual coaches.

This playful smart home gym brings a smarter and more enjoyable way to get in shape

Few will argue that we need to keep our bodies fit and healthy to live life to the fullest, but we as a civilization seem to have developed a litany of excuses not to do so. It’s clear that relying on willpower alone just isn’t enough for everyone, so this smart home gym helps demolish those excuses by providing a fitness machine and program that makes staying fit as fun as playing a game.

There has been a sudden surge in smart home gym products in the past years, and while they do bring a few “smart” solutions to the home gym market, they’re often too focused on simply translating the gym experience to your home. People who go to gyms regularly, however, are mostly already committed and disciplined, making these home gyms just conveniences. In contrast, Gymera revolutionizes home fitness by providing a more enjoyable exercise system that fits right in your home. It even folds up to serve as a full-body mirror that adds a beautiful accent to your home!

Just because you’re working out at home doesn’t mean you actually need to be alone. The 5MP camera easily lets you and your friends enjoy a Facetime workout together even when you’re far apart. And for those with a more competitive streak, leaderboards combine socialization and motivation in a way that will push you to go beyond your limits.
