This minimalist litter box is designed to be inconspicuous to fit into any modern home

Hidden is an unconventional litter box conceptualized to be inconspicuous by design and fit into any modern home.

The hardest part of owning a cat has to be taking care of the litter box. Cats mostly fend for and take care of themselves, but we’re in charge of the litter. Litter boxes aren’t designed for aesthetics, so cat owners usually have to find inconspicuous spots to keep the litter box out of sight and out of mind.

Designer: YUPD

It’s never a cute look to have a litter box in the bathroom or even the basement, but our cats gotta go when they gotta go. Designers with the studio YUPD took it upon themselves to conceptualize a litter box called Hidden that’s discreet by design, so it can be placed anywhere in the house.

Inspired by interior design elements that prioritize coziness, softness, and neat lines, Hidden’s main appeal comes through subtle detailing. Propped up by an elevated basin that contains the litter, the base of Hidden features rounded edges and a cloud-like thickness.

While the weighty base gives Hidden a soft and minimalist appeal, it also offers cats some privacy while they’re taking care of business. Enveloped by translucent glass partitions, cats can rest assured they’re doing number two free from the look of prying eyes. Supported by an off-white base and foggy glass covering, Hidden can fit into any room in the modern home.

Through prioritizing privacy, functionality, and aesthetics, YUPD conceptualized a toilet for cats that doubles as an interior design element. Like many modern appliances, Hidden’s main appeal is its discreet personality so that our home can remain clutter-free and co-habitable without sacrificing our personal freedom and comforts.

This drying chamber for cats acts like a feline-friendly sauna and doubles as a cat tower

Dmuse is a sauna-like drying chamber for cats to have a comfortable place to dry themselves after a bath.

We do a lot for our cats. They’re temperamental little creatures, so making sure they’re comfortable is our responsibility as cat owners. Along with the many duties that come with being a cat owner, bathing cats that might need some assistance in that arena is a big one. Whether due to arthritis or old age, some cats can’t bathe themselves the way nature intended them to, which means it’s our job as their caretaker.

Designer: Designer Dot

While getting cats into the bathtub for cleaning can feel like pulling your own teeth, it’s only half the battle. Then comes the water and we all know how cats deal with that. Take that in addition to drying your cat in a towel and you’ll end up with scratches and tooth marks up and down your arms. Introducing Dmuse, Designer Dot created a drying chamber that doubles as a cat tower as a solution for cats to have a more comfortable way of drying themselves.

The drying chamber itself appears like a traditional drying machine, complete with a convex glass covering and internal heat funnels. Users can operate the drying chamber from a digital control panel located along the rear of Dmuse’s drying chamber. Similar to a drying machine, users will find a collection of control options that manage the device’s temperature, strength, timer, and heat fan.

Unlike a drying machine, Dmuse’s drying chamber is not entirely enclosed as its equipped with a ramp entrance for cats to come and go as they please. Within the same vein, Dmuse doubly operates as a cat tower for cats to rest and play even when they’re dry.

Shaped like a triangle, Dmuse is broken down into three different sections: play, dry, and stay. The play area is defined by the entrance ramp that comes with felt covering for cats to tread upwards with the help of friction and to have a scratching pad within paw’s reach at all times.

Then, the drying chamber remains at the top of Dmuse and is characterized by its globular shape and convex glass covering, making the chamber as large as possible for cats to feel comfortable. Just beneath the drying chamber, cats can find a resting perch on the ground level where they can take a nap following their bath and sauna.

Once the drying chamber is plugged into an outlet, the sauna is ready for use.

Ideated in an array of different colors, Dmuse can fit into any modern living space.

An integrated lift is built into the ramp to ensure cats have the assistance they might need to access the drying chamber.

Overall, Dmuse maintains a triangular shape, but the drying chamber finds space through a globular build.

The control panel is conveniently located at the entryway, near the top of the ramp.

This minimalist furniture piece for cats is a hybrid of a bookshelf and tower where cats can play and rest

Cat Is Art is a minimalist cat tower designed for the modern home where cats can play and humans can store their home goods.

Interior design is an art of balance, and the furniture pieces made for our pets don’t always flow with the rest of our home the way we’d like. Too often, it comes down to what we’re willing to sacrifice: our interior design, or our cat’s comfort. Every once in a while, however, a new piece comes out that manages to wrap it all together. Cat Is Art, designed by Plenilunio Design Agency, is a modern cat tower that strikes the ideal balance between minimalism and rustic warmth.

Designer: Seongjin Cheon, Chungjic Kim x Plenilunio Design Agency

Amounting to a clever combination of a large bookshelf and cat tower, Cat Is Art finds climbing components via staggered shelves for cats to hop between and for users to store home appliances. Adding to their original cat den, the cat tower is its larger, taller counterpart. The cat tower’s exposed metal frame dips into farm-style interior design elements, giving it a rustic flair.

Placed between the metal framing, spacious shelves protrude from both ends to give cats safe landing pads for resting and jumping. Plenilunio Design Agency layered each shelf module with padding so cats will always feel comfortable when taking their little cat naps. While the cat tower keeps a unified look throughout, two metal rings situated near the tower’s top-shelf allow pet owners to attach feline-friendly toys to keep their cats entertained.

Maintaining a minimalist look throughout its build, Cat Is Art is comprised of only its metal frame and integrated shelves. The metal framing does find some energy with a diamond-crossed centerpiece that offers a subtle dash of style. Conceptualized in a blue and white color scheme as well as an entirely optic white finish, Cat Is Art has a chameleonic personality that would look right at home in any modern living room.

A diamond-crossed back section offers some flair to the otherwise stripped-down cat tower.

Staggered shelves provide safe landing pads where cats can jump and rest.

This cat couch features a folding mechanism that’s designed to keep living spaces fur free

Cat Couch is a foldable couch designed to be human-centered and feline-friendly for cohabitation living spaces.

Even when we buy furniture for our cats, there’s no stopping them from using the couch. Despite how much cats might prefer our living room sofas to their small bolster beds, our couches weren’t made for cats. Layers of shed fur and scratch marks have a way of making our couches feel like huge cat beds.

Designer: Tomoya Ono

Noticing the gap between cat-specific furniture and furniture designed for humans, Tomoya Ono conceptualized Cat Couch, a cat-friendly foldable couch designed for cohabitation.

Before conceptualizing Cat Couch, Ono took note that, “Many of the couches’ designs put priority on humans, while most of the cat sofas’ designs only focus on cats. There is a gap between the human lifestyle and the lifestyle of cats.”

With the aim of designing a couch that is equally designed for humans as for cats, Ono found versatility through a foldable structure. Before designing Cat Couch, Ono figured removable cushion fabric and a modular design would provide the conditions needed for easy cleaning when necessary.

Refining the design, Ono integrated wood into the build of the sofa which offered some structural rigidity that gave way to the Cat Couch’s folding mechanism. Wrapped in canvas, the final form of Cat Couch incorporates wooden lids that open and close like toilet seats.

These wooden lids help keep the cushions free from shedding fur and provide backrests for humans when positioned upright. In addition to the multifunctional wooden elements, Ono also designed Cat Couch with built-in scratch pads that provide a designated space for when the feline urge to scratch arises.

This skylight-enabled litter box doubles up as furniture to please cats and their owners

Chris Granneberg designed an enclosed litter box, available for purchase through Cat Person, that’s built to please cats and their owners.

While enclosed litter boxes are great for cat owners, cats seem to have some trouble getting used to them. Cats are temperamental creatures and that means their litter boxes have to fit the bill. For cats to feel comfortable enough to use their littler box, it has to accommodate different needs.

There has to be enough headroom for cats to be able to sit down and turn around easily, there should also be a means for light to enter so cats aren’t going in the dark, and airflow is a must to ventilate the inside of enclosed litter boxes. Cat Person, a lifestyle brand for cats and their owners, recently teamed up with Chris Granneberg, an industrial designer, to develop an enclosed litter box that’s built to please booths cats and their owners.

With Cat Person, Granneberg set out to design a litter box that appears like a piece of furniture to blend in with other interior design elements. To achieve this, Granneberg outfitted the Cat Person litter box with a wooden top lid that gives it the same appeal as a small side table. Ensuring casts enjoy enough airflow and light while taking care of business, Granneberg punctuated the wooden top lid with circular cutouts, creating a ventilated and well-lit interior space.

Granneberg also designed the litter box with larger-than-average dimensions to allow bigger cats to have enough room to sit and turn around with comfort. An ergonomic and durable scooper accompanies the litter box that comes with a handy storing mechanism to avoid the eyesore of litter dropping to the floor. Joining forces with Cat Person, this collaboration marks another step toward Cat Person’s commitment “to make life with cats even more awesome,” through whole cat care.

The built-in scooper holder solves the issue of litter dropping to the floor.

The entrance is big enough even for larger cats to move in and out of with ease.

This wall mountable cat bed gives your cat a place to lounge up high while saving your space

Solar is a floating cat bed that mounts to any vertical surface to give your cat a resting spot up high and to save you floor space.

When it comes to designing cat furniture, the limit does not exist. Cats will turn anything into their personal stomping grounds. Whether it’s your laptop’s keyboard or the top of your entertainment center, cats will find it and transform it into their private playground.

MyZoo, a cat goods company, designs modern cat furniture that caters to your cat’s every need, while not disrupting your interior design. Solar, one of their more recent designs, is a wall-mountable floating cat bed that mounts onto any vertical surface so cats rest midair in their own designated space.

Shaped like the sun, Solar is a small, but sturdy floating cat bed that’s built from pinewood. In a similar fashion to their other pieces of cat furniture, MyZoo lined Solar with a slotted resting platform for safe jumping. Ideal for small spaces, Solar provides a resting spot and jumping platform for your cat and saves space in the meantime.

Unlike bulky cat towers and stringy scratching pads, Solar doesn’t take up any ground space and easily mounts to any wall where there’s room. Since cats love heights, MyZoo figured Solar was the best of both worlds–a space-saver for cat owners and an ideal resting spot for cats. Solar is also easy-to-assemble and even comes with assembly instructions, which can be found on YouTube, to streamline the assembly process.

This three-tiered cat tower features wraparound banisters that give your pets a private nook to rest

Ara is a three-tiered cat resting station that’s defined by a double set of wraparound banisters to provide cats with a sense of privacy on a piece of furniture designed especially for them.

Cat owners know their cats like their privacy. Throughout the day, your pets will find their favorite hiding places in your closet, underneath the couch, or behind the television console. Cats even like these hiding places so much that they sometimes prefer them to the furniture designed especially for them.

They soon become disinterested in the cat towers and climbing posts that have them resting out in the open in front of everyone. Ara, a three-tiered cat resting station designed by Juan Esteban Restrepo Tabares, combines a subtle sense of privacy with cushioned resting levels for cats to feel secluded while making use of their own furniture.

Ara is defined by two sets of wraparound banisters that cradle three levels of cushioned resting areas. Walking through the center walkway, cats find the first resting level where they can make full use of its area. Then, accessible through a central cavity, cats can climb up to the second tier where they can perch high above the ground, to look out over their home space. On the station’s second level, cats are covered on all corners with a roof, floor, and walls, evoking a sense of privacy. Finally, cats can climb through another central cavity to reach Ara’s topmost, open-air level where cat owners can pet and show their cats some love while they sleep.

This cat furniture system features multifunctional modules for cats and their humans both to enjoy!

Me;ow is a modular cat furniture system that features multifunctional modules for humans and cats to enjoy.

The feline urge to scratch the first piece of furniture in the home you see—cats have an instinctual urge to scratch in order to express certain emotions like excitement or stress, to mark objects with their scent, or just to stretch.

Unfortunately, that instinct is usually taken out on our sofas, armchairs, and wooden furniture. In response, many designers have been conceptualizing modular, feline-friendly furniture that looks right at home in any modern living room, not just the cat’s den.

Me;ow, one such modular cat furniture design, takes feline-friendly furniture and makes it palatable for human taste too. Comprised of multiple, colorful sofa modules, Me;ow features differently shaped cushions that link together to form various furniture configurations. The different pieces of Me;ow also have integrated cat-specific features that encourage your cat to get down with their feline urges to their heart’s content.

On one rectangular module that can doubly be used as a seat rest for humans, cats can enjoy an embedded scratching board to paw away at while their human relaxes on the couch. Another cylindrical module can attach to the seat rest module and function as an armrest while providing a fun tunnel in which cats can lounge or play. Then, standalone modules work as buffers between the multifunctional pieces to provide more cushion space for both you and your cat. Me;ow even features a side table module with an integrated bed below the tabletop where cats can get their snooze on.

The colorful modules all link together with a secure fastening mechanism for extended and durable playtime. Equipped with a climbing system, Me;ow also comes with freestanding modules that can mount on any wall to provide a space for your cat to romp and jump a safe distance away from the ever-so scratchable furniture.

This wooden cat tower will keep your cat entertained for hours and blends right into modern living rooms!

Sio is a cat tower carved from natural wood with integrated perch swings and cushioned hideouts for cats to climb and rest until they’re ready for a catnap.

Cat furniture has come a long way since the ‘70s. From the cat trees wrapped in shag carpeting to the midcentury-inspired climbing trees of today, designers have created cat furniture to meet the needs and aesthetics of the times. Today, the shag has been swapped out for more refined, wooden cat trees with integrated scratching posts and resting hideouts like the Sio cat tree designed by Sebastian Medrano Casas.

The Sio cat tree keeps the same shape as a twin step ladder, providing a semi-enclosed bottom resting area and carpeted steps with connecting slings where cats can relax and keep a close eye on their humans. Constructed from natural wood, the Sio cat tree is discreet enough to fit into most modern living rooms and blend in with the rest of the furniture.

The base of the Sio cat tree is wide enough to support the rest of the tower and resting spots, but small enough to fit snugly into a living room corner space. In the semi-enclosed base of the Sio tree, cats can rest in the pillowed sleeping area for a cozy escape from the house. When cats rest in the tree’s base area, humans will hardly notice they’re there, making it the ideal, cozy nook for cats to hide out.

Just above the base, cats can come out from hiding and lie on the base’s cushioned roof, bordered by roped beams for good scratching bits between cat naps. Comprising two levels of the tower, carpeted slings connect the topmost steps on both sides of the tree where cats can let their paws and tails dangle. Then, the top of the cat tower provides a final lookout perch that’s overlaid with ribbed carpeting for a comfortable resting spot that could double as a scratching post for cats.

The Sio cat tower is one interpretation of the modern cat tree, one that switches outdated design elements like shag rug coats and frayed scratching walls for a more sophisticated tower constructed from natural wood, faux fur cushions, and long-lasting roped scratching beams. Small enough to tuck away into a living room corner, but big enough for your cat to get a good climb in every time, the Sio cat tower is made for the cat in each of us.

Designer: Sebastian Medrano Casas

The cat tree’s base is wide enough to support the rest of the tower but small enough to fit snugly in any corner space.

Carved from natural wood, the Sio cat tree has a durable frame and sculpted design.

Fuzzy wool perches create the ideal resting spots for cats.

Roped scratching beams let your cats get a good scratch in between cat naps.

The top sling comes with a heightened headroom for your cat to stretch out.
