How to Organize Your Space Efficiently and Stay Focused Longer with this Work Desk

We constantly have so many distractions, and trust me when I say this as I have started writing, maintaining the mind frame to write is a hassle with so many things happening around at home. Working from home sounds fun and relaxed, but it also gets you way more distracted. In this world of smartphones and their attention-seeking notification tones, you can never keep yourself from knowing what’s new that made it go ‘ting’! You wouldn’t believe it, but it takes precisely 23 minutes and 15 seconds to get back in the flow of work and maximum productivity. It would be a waste of time if we allowed scope for distractions all along. Recognizing the need for a solution that promotes concentration and efficiency, a new design concept has emerged: FLOW Desk. Crafted with meticulous attention to detail, FLOW Desk is a multi-functional piece of furniture that caters specifically to the needs and requirements of students and remote workers. Its primary goal is to minimize interruptions and distractions, allowing individuals to fully immerse themselves in their work or studies.

One of the primary ways to stay focused is to have everything in one place so that you do not have to get up and go around to fetch the required items and allow opportunities for distractions on the way. At the heart of FLOW Desk lies the concept of “flow,” a state of complete immersion and focus. Just like the flow of water in a river, our minds emerge and focus when we’re in the zone at work. FLOW Desk aims to replicate this state by providing a seamless and organized workspace that eliminates the need for constant movement and retrieval of items.

One of the key features of this desk is its integration of technology, storage, and a desk into one sleek and efficient piece. Everything you need is within arm’s reach, ensuring you don’t have to interrupt your workflow. From a wireless charger for your devices to a conveniently placed desk lamp, socket plug-ins, and speakers, FLOW Desk keeps your workspace clutter-free and optimized for productivity.

The benefits don’t end here; the desk offers additional functionalities that further enhance its appeal. With hidden drawers, a chalkboard for brainstorming, and even a cup warmer for those much-needed coffee breaks, FLOW Desk caters to the diverse needs of its users. It even provides extra workspaces, cleverly hidden in a beautiful manner, ensuring you have ample room to spread out and tackle your tasks effectively.

Designed with both aesthetics and functionality in mind, FLOW Desk seamlessly blends into any environment. Its sleek and modern design adds a touch of sophistication to any space, whether it’s a student’s room, a home office, or a shared workspace. Available in a variety of colors, it effortlessly transforms from a storage unit to a desk, providing flexibility and adaptability to suit individual requirements.

FLOW Desk’s target audience is broad, encompassing students at all levels, from schools to universities, as well as remote workers and individuals working from home. It caters to those who value productivity and seek a functional desk that meets their specific needs, even when space is limited by consolidating all the necessary elements of a workspace into one streamlined piece of furniture. It eliminates distractions and provides a conducive environment for achieving goals. Its elegant design, integrated technology, and versatile features make it an ideal choice for students and remote workers alike. Embrace the current of inspiration and let FLOW Desk propel you towards success.

Liquid-Filled Eyeglasses Automatically Adjust Focus: Bye Bye Bifocals!

Have 20/20 vision? That must be nice. My eyes are awful, and if they were any worse I’d be wearing dual eye patches right now. But here to push the envelope in vision correction is University of Utah electrical engineering professor Carlos Mastrangelo and Ph.D. student Mohit Karkanis, who are developing a pair of “smart” eyeglasses that automatically adjust their focus to the distance of whatever a wearer is looking at.

The lenses consist of a thin window that clear glycerine can be pumped in or out to change their shape and adjust focus based on the distance an object is from the wearer’s face. That data is gathered by a distance sensor, and a processor (both housed in the glass’s thick arms) makes the necessary changes in glycerine volume in the lenses. Goodbye, bifocals! Or, in my case, goodbye quadfocals!

This is definitely a fascinating use of technology and all, but I think I speak for everyone here when I say but where are the x-ray glasses? I mean I thought this was supposed to be the future, I should be able to spot winning lotto scratchers without actually having to buy and scratch them first.

This sleek cylindrical fireplace suspends from the ceiling, giving your interiors a modern upgrade

It’s like if Scandinavian Design met Super Mario.

Fireplaces have traditionally always been the epicenter of a room’s decor, with furniture and objects placed in relation to it (armchairs facing it, portraits and trophies hanging above and around it). However, over the past few years, they’ve been gradually replaced by ugly, utilitarian radiators that usually hide behind couches or curtains. In a bid to give fireplaces a modern makeover, French manufacturer Focus has introduced the Slimfocus, an incredibly sleek cylindrical fireplace that can either be wall or ceiling-mounted indoors. Despite its minimal design, the Slimfocus has an incredibly captivating allure, almost like a chandelier that makes its way from the ceiling to the floor. The all-black fireplace comes with a transparent glass window that opens to let you access the fire-pit, and when closed, gives you a beautiful view of the dancing flames, as the thermal energy makes its way up the cylindrical shaft and radiates into the house.

A winner of the German Design Award as well as the Interior Innovation Award, the Slimfocus’ black periscope-like design provides a brilliant contrast to virtually any interior. Its matte black paint helps it efficiently absorb and radiate thermal heat from the fire, supporting both wood and gas as fuel.

The fireplace can be hung from the ceiling, wall-mounted, or attached to the floor using a baseplate. The ceiling-hung variant of the Slimfocus is made-to-measure depending on the interiors and placement, and can be suspended via either a fixed or pivoting fixture. Compatible with low-energy buildings, Slimfocus draws in air for combustion through the smoke evacuation flue (balanced flue system). It can be installed in traditional homes too, drawing in air from the room (open flue system).

Designed to take up less space yet create a massive impact, the Slimfocus assumes a very commanding presence no matter which area of the room it’s located in. The closed fireplace immediately becomes a point of attraction, creating a pivot around which furniture can be oriented, and conversations can be had!

This wearable brain computer is designed to help you focus, increasing your productive workdays!

Electrodes have been used to measure brain activity for the past century. Electroencephalography, or EEG, is one of the most widely used, mostly non-invasive techniques for measuring neural activity. EEG essentially records the brain’s electrical activity through electrodes that are placed on the scalp and in thousands of seconds, changes within the brain can be measured and then analyzed. The ability to focus takes place in the brain’s frontal lobe and a pair of engineers have designed a wearable EEG device called Crown to measure that part of the brain to help maintain focus and boost productivity.

Crown, from Neurosity, helps to maintain your brain’s focus by measuring not only what triggers your focus, but also what sustains it. Eight EEG sensors fill out the Crown to track and quantify an individual’s brainwaves to better understand what retains focus and what introduces distraction. As the brainwaves are measured, the accompanying Neurosity Shift app connects to your Spotify account to play the most suitable music for your brain to hold onto that state of flow. Similar to Neurosity’s previous brain-sensing technology, the Notion 2, the Crown also minimizes any technological distractions like notifications or ringtones by automatically muting any prospective interruptions that could take away from your focus.

After all of this, the Crown sends you a ‘report card’ indicating your most focused moments and the times you felt most distracted, with the aim of improving your focus in the future. While EEG devices have a reputation for falling short on their signal-to-noise ratio, a method for measuring everything going on in the brain, Neurosity promises cutting-edge technology that enhances the device’s quantifying rate. Not just that– the Crown never listens to, watches, or stores any of your brainwaves– the Crown is only here to keep you calm, cool, and focused.

Designer: Neurosity

The Crown weighs just over half a pound and aimed to be one size fits all.

The Crown comes equipped with eight EEG sensors, two haptic motors, a motion-detecting accelerometer, and near-field communication.

The eight EEG sensors that fill out the Crown are non-invasive.

The Crown is battery-operated and has a rechargeable time of only three hours.

The Crown also comes with Bluetooth and Cloud connectivity.

HTC’s standalone VR kit will stream PC content via WiFi

We're still some way away from getting compact VR headsets that tap into cloud VR services via 5G, but for now, HTC has cooked up something that will let standalone 6DoF kits take advantage of a PC's processing power. In early Q4 this year, the Vive...
