Top 10 accessories you need to make a cool gaming room

As we near the final days of 2023 (known in some circles as either one of the best years in gaming history or one of the worst) the massively popular gaming hobby shows no sign of slowing down in terms of public reception. In fact, Statista predicts that 3.1 billion humans (a little less than half of the current global population) will regularly play games as a hobby by 2027.

But can you truly call yourself a “gamer” if you don’t spend at least a little time and money decking out the room you play games in? I’m half-joking; of course there is no specific “correct” way to play video games in your own house. But there are quite a few gadgets and cool decorative items you can use to make any gaming room more impressive.

Whether you’re a PC gamer who wants an extra edge, a racing game enthusiast who wants maximum immersion, or if you simply want to make your entertainment center a little more comfortable, you’ve got a number of options at your fingertips to trick out your gaming room to match your style. To help you out, I’ve come up with a list of gaming room accessories that immediately come to mind, including a few mainstays I’ve used in my personal gaming setup for years.

1. Playseat Trophy – Logitech G Edition

Playseat is one of the best racing chair brands you can buy from, and this collaboration between Playseat and Logitech (called the Playseat Trophy – Logitech G Edition) is probably the best option for an all-rounder racing chair with direct drive wheel support plus all the other bells and whistles you’ll need for maximum immersion. It’s also advertised to naturally conform to the shape of your body thanks to Playseat’s patented ActiFit material, so you can theoretically sit inside of it and race for hours without developing aches and cramps. It’s a little expensive at an MSRP of $599.00, but it’s hard to find a decent racing chair below that price range, and critics love the mix of features and high build quality.

2. Logitech G Pro Racing Wheel and Pro Racing Pedals

If you’re going to invest in a high-quality direct drive racing wheel and accompanying racing pedals, you’re going to want to go straight to the best one on the market. That’s the Logitech G Pro Racing Wheel and Pro Racing Pedals bundled together for around $1348.99 – which, yes, is expensive, but if you’re in the market for a high-end racing setup anyway, is money even an object? GamesRadar+ had some especially kind words for the Logitech G Pro Racing Wheel, highlighting the powerful force feedback, robust customization options, and advanced features throughout the design. It’s also widely known as one of the sturdiest racing wheels around, with IGN’s slightly less enthusiastic review still giving credit to Logitech for delivering on its commitment to quality.

3. Cololight Smart RGB LED Gaming Lights

Hexagonal LED wall lights are a popular and stylish way to decorate any gaming area or entertainment center, and I find the Cololight COLO PLAY Ultimate Fusion Set offers the best price balance for the widest range of features as it’s designed around PC gaming setups – letting you sync a wide range of lighting systems (like Razer Chroma) with Cololight’s hex lighting pieces. The included COLO PLAY light switch sits comfortably on your desk and is especially useful to quickly cycle your hex lights and PC lights by simply twisting a knob. Not only that, but the company pledges to plant a tree with every purchase made on its online store, which is a nice gesture on its own.

4. Secretlab MAGNUS Pro

Sit-stand desks are an excellent centerpiece for any modern PC gaming setup, and one of the best-rated desks in 2023 is the Secretlab MAGNUS Pro. It’s spacious, sturdy, and has a number of quality-of-life features like electric height control, a cable management system, and even a little headphone hook for added convenience. It also contains a rather impressive integrated RGB lighting system, making for a unique and stylish design. Its height is configurable via an array of buttons conveniently accessible on its front panel. It’s expensive, but the reviews are unanimously (overwhelmingly) positive, with GamesRadar+ calling it the best sit-stand desk they’ve ever tested when they reviewed it in February 2023.

5. NEWTRAL MagicH Ultra Adaptive Support Home Office Chair

I personally dislike most gaming chairs I’ve ever sat in. I’m a firm believer that the secret to buying a proper gaming chair is avoiding them altogether, and instead investing in a really nice office chair. After all, office chairs are designed to be sat in for at least eight hours a day by office workers of all builds and ages. Their most critical function is comfort, and the NEWTRAL MagicH seems to push the boundaries on just how comfortable an office chair can be. This Kickstarter-backed office chair is advertised to provide full support in any sitting position, whether you’re sitting upright or reclining back. As someone who spends a lot of time sitting down in the same computer chair all day for both work and gaming, I’ve been looking for something that adapts to my needs throughout the day, and the NEWTRAL MagicH is on the tippy top of my wish list.

6. Logitech G560 LIGHTSYNC PC Gaming Speakers

I’ve been using these Logitech G560 2.1 PC speakers for years now, and I still recommend them as a compulsory purchase for any modern PC gaming setup. Their sound quality is decent enough – these aren’t going to compete against a proper 5.1 or 7.1 surround sound system, or even a nice pair of monitors. However, for the $200 MSRP, you’re getting a powerful 2.1 PC speaker system that also provides a ton of visual ambiance. These speakers double as LED lights that beam colors onto the surface behind your monitor. They can be configured via Logitech G HUB software to mimic the visuals on your monitor itself, creating a dynamic backlighting experience that heightens immersion when playing games and watching movies. Just remember to turn up the brightness to max and boost the subwoofer in the acoustics menu, otherwise these will be a lot darker and a lot quieter than advertised.

7. Samsung Odyssey OLED G9

The most stylish gaming PC monitor you can currently buy is the 49-inch Samsung Odyssey OLED G9, which looks incredible at 5120×1440 resolution with 1800R curvature. The Odyssey OLED G9’s integrated HDR 400 support should produce crisp and rich colors thanks to its OLED display, which doesn’t rely on a backlight and therefore negates the need for local dimming to generate deep blacks and bright whites. It’s designed for gamers first and foremost, running at up to 240Hz refresh rates with built-in support for AMD Freesync. Reviewers especially like how it produces near-instant response times, giving off no perceptible input lag. From a purely aesthetic perspective, the minimalistic design of its stand and the integrated RGB backlights make the Samsung Odyssey OLED G9 a centerpiece rather than an eyesore.

8. Xbox Mini Fridge

The Xbox Mini Fridge is admittedly a bit goofy, but then again, it’s not a “real” fridge. What was originally a meme product designed to build up hype for the then-new Xbox Series X in 2020, is still a genuinely cool item to have sitting around in any gaming room. It’s small, with a sleek black chassis and bright green inlay that mimics the design of a proper Xbox Series X. But its best feature is the integrated green LED that gives it its visual flair. Besides, it’s perfect to store a few cans of soda in since it is, after all, classified as a mini fridge.

9. Govee DreamView T1 Pro TV Backlights

Console gaming is way more immersive with a dynamic TV backlight that beams colors onto the surface behind your TV to match the visuals on-screen. Thanks to the Govee DreamView T1 Pro, you can light up your entire entertainment center across three different zones. It’s all controlled by a single camera placed on top of (or below!) your television screen, which can interpret the colors on the screen into information which tells the lighting zones which color to display at any moment. In action, the wide range of lights and colors displaying across the entire entertainment center makes games and movies come to life.

10. PDP REALMz Gaming Controllers for Xbox/PC/Nintendo Switch

Unique gaming controllers are a great way to personalize your gaming room, and thanks to the PDP REALMz diorama controllers for Xbox, PC, and Nintendo Switch, you can impress your friends with artsy designs that feature popular characters and backdrops. What really stands out here, though, is their transparent design, which makes them look retro. These are a great gift for any gamer in your life, or you can decorate your own gaming room with the wide assortment of styles and colors offered by PDP REALMz.

On the base, we can also see the refined chrome finished metal detailing that adds to the simple elegance of the game table.

The Derby foosball table is made by Italian artisans. Tabletop games are usually ignored in the design world but not by IMPATIA. The company has focused on this category, and we can expect related products will be introduced. Each Derby Canvas is made to order, so expect a uniquely yours table.

Meet the Bifrost, a gaming desk that’s as versatile and powerful as your gaming rig

A modular, organized, robust desk that fully complements your gaming setup without breaking your bank… and yes, it comes in all-black too.

Say hello to the Bifrost – you may be aware of the term from the Thor movies, used to describe an intergalactic portal/bridge that allowed the demigods to travel between Asgard and Midgard. However, this Bifrost is a little different. Think of it less as a bridge and more as a platform that supports your state-of-the-art gaming gear. Designed to be sturdy enough to hold multiple monitors and complicated rigs, while effortlessly concealing all the cables to give you a clean game-space, the Bifrost is a mammoth of a 63-inch tabletop surface that can comfortably hold up to two 27″ monitors on it, along with enough space for a mid-tower desktop, your gaming peripherals, and any other items you’d customize your gaming table with. Moreover, the desk even comes with a large D-board for a backplate, allowing you to mount shelves, stands, planters, headphones, consoles, live-streaming cameras, or even monitors up to 15.2 lbs. In short, whether you want your workspace to be as minimalist as Dave2D’s, or as pimped out as Linus Tech Tips’, the Bifrost has you comfortably sorted.

Designed to take on even the most maximalist gaming setups, the Bifrost desk comes with a load-bearing capacity of a whopping 330lbs, with steel reinforced legs that keep your table up even when your scoreboard ranking isn’t. The desk’s two highlight features, however, remain its clean, spacious design, and its modular approach to desktop organization. The large tabletop surface measures more than 2 feet in depth (28.3 inches, to be precise), giving you enough space for your monitor, a keyboard, and even a wrist-pad all placed one ahead of the other. The table’s even large enough to accommodate a massive gaming CPU, with cable-concealing boxes running along the back of the tabletop, for hiding all your cables and wires from plain sight.

The D-Board allows you to display and storage your personal PC space.

Supported by steel tubes.

Effortlessly hide those wires under desk and close the flip-up tray lids.

Fixed steel brackets and 45-degree junction design ensure great stability. With a load capacity of 330.7lb.

The table comes in two sizes, the Bifrost 120 (measuring 120 centimeters or 47.2 inches wide), and the Bifrost 160, which offers a larger 160cm or 63-inch tabletop surface. Both are characterized by Bifrost’s most significant design detail, its D-board, a rugged, molded ABS perforated board at the back of the table which allows you to vertically organize your desk too. Giving you an entirely new surface to arrange your workspace in, the Bifrost’s D-board sports diamond-shaped cutouts that let you attach a variety of modules like shelves to place stationery, action figures, or webcams, containers to add plants in (preferably artificial ones so you don’t have to water them), hooks for your keys and other EDC, a dedicated Nintendo Switch holder, a USB Type-C 7-in-1 Hub so your desk has the ports your laptop doesn’t, and even a maxed out RGB lighting system because what’s a gaming desk without some flashy lights? The D-board even comes with its own monitor mount for monitors as wide as 32″, and the ability to swivel your monitor from landscape to portrait on command. Finally, because no desk is complete without a headphone stand and a hydration station, the Bifrost comes with its own headphone-holder and cup-holder that attaches to the rim of your desk, giving you perhaps one of the most well-rounded and meticulously planned desk systems ever.

Bifrost 120

Depending on which size you go for, the Bifrost 120 can set you back $275, and the Bifrost 160 for $375 (YD users also get a 35% additional discount!), for which you get the desk, the D-board, and a set of D-board-compatible shelves. The other accessories are optional and can be added to your pledge while you back the Bifrost’s project on Indiegogo. The Bifrost passes all of the US standards for dimensions, safety, strength, and durability required for office work tables and desks, and ships to the USA and Canada starting June 2022.

The UPPSPEL range is the ROG-designed height-adjustable desk with a powerful mechanism for choosing just the right level. In contrast, HUVUDSPELARE and UPPSPEL are contemporary desks, and the CPU stand.

Razer Iskur X Ergonomic Gaming Chair Min-Liang Tan

Razer Iskur X Ergonomic Gaming Chair Min-Liang Tan

If it sort of looks like an angry cobra with its hood flared, ready to strike, know that it’s completely intentional. The Razer Iskur X is yet another addition to the company’s reptile-inspired gaming gear. The ergonomic throne is calibrated for the most comfortable gaming experience, with a durable multi-layered synthetic leather-clad, high-density cushioning, 2D armrests, and fully adjustable recline, tilt, and height. It’s also $399, putting it slightly on the expensive side… although not as expensive as Logitech x Herman Miller’s $1,595 gaming chair.

Called the Rival Rig gaming chair, it is the perfect bridge between the physical world and the virtual world – giving the users a functional sensory input while being utterly comfortable. An ideal proposition for streamers and Esports professionals indeed. The idea is to analyze the player’s movements and adapt to their sitting position for a weightless feeling sans any physical stress during long hours of casual or professional gaming. This adaptive stance leads to sustained performance of the player not limited by physical or mental stress. Rival Rig is embedded with sensors that detect the rise in body temperature and then beam cool air to the particular area. They call it the Microclimate Control System.

This behemoth of a chair is designed for the most comfortable gaming experience, with a race car-style seat with controls that allow you to lean forward, backward, adjust the seat’s height, recliner angle, and leg-rest angle… you know, like a dentist’s chair, but one that gives you a different sort of adrenaline rush. The futuristic scorpion-inspired gaming throne called The Acer Predator Thronos comes with a swiveling keyboard tray and a moving rear arm that holds three high-resolution curved displays practically giving you the power of panoramic vision while gaming.

This coffee table doubles down as a gaming console and it is exactly what we need while staying home in 2021. An homage to retro gaming machines and furniture enthusiasts, this coffee table is one of its kind. Swedish designer Love Hulten has created a slim slide-out console with 2-player arcade joysticks & push-button gaming controls. It is inspired by the old-school gaming arcades and includes the big buttons as well as a joystick that is also a knob for the coffee table. The custom-crafted table features a wireless gaming system that connects with your smart TV for modern yet classic home gaming. With a classic American walnut and brass aesthetic, the table’s form will appeal to most and allow it to blend in any interior style.

Designer Matthew Midir paid homage to CD Projekt’s Night City by bringing its retrofuturistic landscape to a limited edition Couchmaster called CYPUNK. Couchmaster CYPUNK comes decked out with high-tech thermal print panels that feature scenes and props from Cyberpunk’s gamescape like the slick DeLorean DMC-12 parked amongst the neon street lights of Night City. In addition to the Cyberpunk-themed, memory-foam-cushioned siding, Couchmaster CYPUNK comes equipped with an extra source of power, originally made for Couchmaster’s CYCON2, that connects the couch-desk to your PC so that no matter how long or hard you play, the game will operate smoothly without lagging or connectivity issues.

This dope workstation cum gaming rig is designed by Jubilee Furniture, the designer of the popular Hariana Tech Smart Bed – I still wish I could own it somehow, albeit the sky-high price tag of $2,999! Compare the Talon Space Gaming Furniture to the bed (in terms of dollars I’ll have to slash out), and I realize it is just a pipedream. it’s worth a mind-numbing $ 6,799. That said, the sci-fi workstation puts focus on the proper circulation of blood and visceral pressure, to prevent any long-term effects of working on long hours on your PC or gaming. The whole rig is designed in a way to address the constant load on the cervical spine and the lumbar vertebrae. Besides all the health benefits, the functional gaming station boasts a futuristic design making you feel suspended in a space capsule.
