Arnold & Son’s latest double tourbillion watch comes finished with a stunning jade dial

Adding to the watchmaker’s rich legacy of dual timezone pieces, the Double Tourbillon Jade brings the culturally rich green mineral to the Arnold & Son’s centuries-long history of chronometric excellence. Striving for perfection on the inside as well as out, the watch sports two faces set in precious white opal and double tourbillons that are jewels of engineering in their own right. The four-leaf clover arrangement of dials and tourbillons provides the perfect foreground for the watch’s bright green jade dial, sourced from Wyoming and expertly cut to allow both dials and tourbillons to emerge to their full height.

While the exterior revels in sheer opulence, the insides of the watch come outfitted with the company’s A&S8513 double-barreled caliber. Designed as a dual timezone watch, the upper dial sports Roman numerals, while the lower one showcases Arabic numerals, allowing you to independently set and calibrate two times from different timezones right down to the minute. “Unlike most so-called travel watches, the Double Tourbillon Jade can therefore follow time zones offset by 15, 30 or 45 minutes, as is the case with certain countries in Central Asia”, mentions the company in a press release.

The ornate arrangement of minerals and intricately assembled timekeeping components sit underneath a sapphire crystal display, within the watch’s 43.5mm case, made from an option between red gold and white gold. Both colors aim to complement the deep green jade stone within, adding accents through gentle colors, reflections, and contrasts. To further this artistic vision, the watches are paired with hand-stitched alligator leather straps in either black or green.

Adorable Tape Measure designed to look like a chameleon with an extending tongue is a great example of nature-inspired design

Animated movies have been my escapism since childhood – and Johnny Depp’s masterpiece Rango is the reason I am referring to this chameleon-inspired measuring tape as adorable right now! The chameleon’s camouflaging capability is in focus here too, as this EDC hides the measuring tape in plain sight.

Look at those details!  The huge, bulby eyes, detailed scale texture, the ridges in the back, and the proportion of the overall design makes this a perfect fit for stationery enthusiasts the world over. Adding to the quirkiness of the design, the tongue of the chameleon is a measuring tape that extends up to 2 meters in length. The body of the chameleon measures a tiny 1.9 inches, making it perfect to hang onto your keychain for daily use. The body is made from brass and manganese steel, giving it a nice weight and a solid overall feel to the design.

Speaking of the inspiration, the designer says, “The chameleon is one of the most charming creatures in the animal kingdom. It has survived for hundreds of millions of years under the law of the jungle with two unique techniques, which are color changing and tongue swiping. The chameleon is one of the most controversial characters in human society. The chameleon’s tongue punch is a powerful punch that pushes the limits of known vertebrate muscle capacity. In ancient Greek civilization, it was known as the “Khamaileon” lion of the earth.” Fun facts to impress anyone who questions your choice of stationery!

With nature-inspired design fast becoming a trend, the brass chameleon measuring tape is a collectible you want to get your hands on. And you know, this little lizard will not blend into your surrounding clutter. It is an EDC designed to stand out!

Miss the smell of gasoline?? Ford just launched a fuel-scented perfume specially for EV owners

In a bid to out-weird Elon Musk’s Tesla Tequila, Ford just announced a perfume that vaguely smells like gasoline, designed for EV owners who miss the wafting aroma of fossil fuels. The perfume even comes in a gas-pump-shaped bottle, and is rather cleverly named Mach-Eau, a play on the word “Macho” by combining Ford’s Mach-E with the French term ‘Eau’, often used to describe perfumes.

As Ford gradually makes its complete transition to electric vehicles (with the Mustang Mach-E and the electric F150 being announced in the past two years), they conducted a survey to find out what their customers missed most about petrol-powered cars. The results showed that “one in five drivers said the smell of petrol is what they’d miss most when swapping to an electric vehicle, with almost 70% claiming they would miss the smell of petrol to some degree.” Ford also claimed in a press release that Petrol ranked as a more popular scent than both wine and cheese, and almost identically to the smell of new books. Sounds weird, but also sounds about right, because strangely enough, I REALLY like the smell of petrol too… but enough to douse myself in a perfume that smells like it? Well, maybe not.

The company, however, made it clear as they unveiled their fragrance at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, that Mach-Eau doesn’t, in fact, smell entirely like gasoline, but rather draws on certain qualities of its aroma. Developed in partnership with renowned fragrance consultancy, Olfiction, “[The] Mach-Eau is designed to please the nose of any wearer; a high-end fragrance that fuses smoky accords, aspects of rubber and even an ‘animal’ element to give a nod to the Mustang heritage”, Ford mentioned in the press release. Be that as it may, the company hasn’t really put the Mach-Eau up for sale yet. Maybe it’ll come included with Ford’s next set of cars? Who ‘nose’. (get it? nose? knows?)

From Apple to Android, these framed disassembled smartphones make for a worthy designer gift!

When you buy a new phone, all that’s worth appreciating is the design engineering of this little gadget that rules our lives. Disassembling your phone and then preserving it in a picture frame is not an everyday affair, but some creatives have made a skillful enterprise from this. Not a long while ago, we saw Indie art studio GRID amaze us with the iPhone 5 Framed Edition. And now we have a featured artist with a massive collection of teardown smartphones and tablets well preserved in photo frames for generations to appreciate – because why should iPhone users have all the fun!

Computer engineer Kevin, inspired by Todd McLellan’s Things Come Apart series, went on to dissemble popular phone models right from the nostalgic Android Blackberry and Nokia models to the much modern ones like the Apple iPhone 8 and Honor 6 Plus. It all started with his first iPhone that was taken apart and then framed in his living room. Then he couldn’t stop himself from dismantling his old gadgets, including iPhone 4S, iPhone 5, iPhone 6, and Sony rx100m2. On posting the setup on social media, the pictures attracted fans who also wanted their gadgets to be framed for cherished memories on their living room wall or bedroom desk. This fueled his passion, and Kevin ultimately opened his own Etsy shop that goes by the name FEIPPO. The idea is to keep your keepsakes safe – maybe it was the first gadget you bought with your own salary, a gift from your spouse, or just because you love watching the individuals that make up these complicated gadgets. This is a great way to memorialize your device instead of having it collect dust in the corner of your desk.

The taken apart mobile devices are meticulously preserved in glass frames with the optional frame choice in chestnut, tan, black or white. These decorative art pieces for any desk setup are absolutely hypnotic, especially how all of the disassembled parts are explained in detail with accompanying text descriptions. Since Kevin’s collection is enormous, we have handpicked our favorite Android and Apple devices for you to enjoy. If you are also thinking of framing your old gadgets in this manner, you deserve a hi-five from me!

This DIY watch-making kit’s latest design lets you build new mechanical timepieces with your own hands

In all fairness, what the Swiss watchmakers do is incredibly difficult, but the Rotate Watches give you a small taste of what it is like to assemble your own timepiece together. The all-in-one watchmaking kit comes with everything you need, from the watch parts to even the tools you’d require to assemble, maintain, and repair the watch. For obvious reasons, the mechanical movement comes pre-assembled, given how critical that part is and how intricately it’s built… but you do get to put the rest together, sandwiching the movement between the two metal halves, laying in the sapphire glass display, and finally fixing the straps to your watch. You even get to fit the watch hands onto its face, giving you quite the thrill of playing a real horologist!

Founded by a group of artisans and tinkerers dedicated to keeping analog alive (and a woman-owned, minority-owned business based in Los Angeles, California), Rotate Watches package the experience of building your own timepiece. The watches come in a variety of styles with leather as well as metal jubilee straps, and each watch also has its own difficulty rating, from moderate to complex! The kit contains everything you’d possibly need, from the watch parts to tools like pliers, pry-bars, tweezers, screwdrivers, glue, and even nitrile gloves to help you assemble your masterpiece without creating a mess. Your purchase also gives you access to a complete watchmaking guide on Rotate Watches’ website, technical support from Rotate’s team, and a lifetime warranty on your timepiece. Each unit is quality-checked before shipping from Rotate’s Los Angeles facility, and you can even ask them to engrave 2-3 characters (preferably your initials) on the watch upon purchase!

Designers: Jennifer Zhang and Rebecca Lee of Rotate Watches

We were awed by Rotate’s DIY kit when they first launched as a Kickstarter campaign. Following a very successful crowdfunding effort, the company’s now established its practice in LA, selling a variety of watch styles. Showcased here, is the Galileo, with its golden body and radial-brushed blue watch-face.

For obvious reasons, the mechanical movement comes pre-assembled. Given how complex some of these movements can be, often ending up with hundreds of small parts that have their own specific purpose and require expert knowledge, the movement comes pre-built. As co-creator, you get to put the rest of the watch together, understanding its materials, assemblies, and details along the way. It also helps you build an appreciation for analog watches that smartwatches can never match!

The kit contains everything you need, from watch parts to even the tools and equipment you’d require to put your haute horologerie together. At the end of the assembly process, Rotate hopes that you inherit an interest and affection for watches, and you even form an emotional bond with your timepiece that goes beyond just picking a wristwatch from a display case and wearing it. With Rotate’s watches, you end up involving yourself in the watch’s creation, forming a strong bond with your masterpiece along the way.

The watches are available in 5 styles [from Left to Right] – Eiffel, Wright, Edison, Galileo, and Newton, each with their own unique design, assembly, and difficulty level.

The AW3 from elago pays tribute to Apple’s original hero product from its heyday. The 1984 Macintosh-inspired silicone sleeve for the Airpods case really gives it less of a dental-floss vibe and more of a cute relic appeal. The white silicone sleeve guards your Airpods case, cushioning it from accidental bumps and scratches, while an outlet at its base allows you to charge it too. In fact, the entire sleeve is compatible with wireless chargers too, letting you use even the new generation Airpods 2 with it. AW3’s design comes with the iconic Hello engraved into its form, which also lets you see the green charging light when the case is plugged in.

In two lines, this is a Vegan Watch strap for your super cool Apple Watch. In elaborate terms, we are discussing how there are more uses for Piñatex – a natural leather alternative that is made from pineapple leaves. Many of you may be aware that all the parts of a  coconut tree are used in some form or the other. For example, the leaves are woven into baskets, the husk of the coconut is used in the coir industry, whereas the fruit is consumed in totality – water, milk, pulp, and oil! Another such fruit is the pineapple. Piñatex is a natural leather alternative made from cellulose fibers extracted from pineapple leaves. Crafting an Apple Watch Strap – perhaps the World’s First pineapple strap! The material is very ethical and sustainable and makes for a great workaround for leather straps.

Designed as a pretty nifty throwback to Apple’s golden era of the iPod, Elago’s W6 stand is a perfect tribute to one of Apple’s most ground-breaking products ever! The W6 is a part of Elago’s rather remarkable throwback series of stands for the watch, ranging from stands that resemble the Macintosh Computer to the gloriously colorful iMac G3, to even the Nintendo GameBoy. The W6 takes on a more recent ancestor of the Watch, the iPod Classic, which made its debut in 2001, nearly twenty years ago! A modern reinterpretation of the old plastic-and-metal device, the W6 stand is tiny and comes made from silicon, allowing it to flex as you slide your Watch in, and preventing it from accidental bumps or scratches with its shock-absorbing exterior.

At the time of their release, the Airpods were criticized for being too ‘easy to lose’. This spawned a wide variety of products like the Elago Airpods strap that helped you secure your expensive earpieces in place, eliminating the danger of losing them. The Wristfit is another such ‘sensible’ product that simply gives you the ability to dock your Airpods on your Apple Watch. Keeping them in a place that’s easy to access, the Wristfit secures the Watch around your wrist, and the Airpods right on the strap like a sort of holster for your earphones. Push them right in when you’re not using them and you won’t have to worry about them at all. It also means you don’t have to carry around their dental-floss-box-shaped carrying case either!

With Apple launching its latest 16 inches MacBook Pro, it was fairly obvious that accessories for it would follow ensuite. One such intriguing product is the DGRule. The designers of DGRule describe it as an “invisible hub” and I guess we can see why. The DGRule promises to be a convenient alternative to the limited Thunderbolt 3 USB-C ports since they aren’t always compatible with all devices. Subtle, discreet, and far from bulky, DGRule snaps onto both sides of the MacBook Pro. The cushion pad ensures it stays glued onto the laptop, no matter which position you work in.

10 Best pens designed with love for every design + stationery addict!

If you have clicked on this post, you share our deep-seated love for everything stationery – trust me when I say we can fawn over paper clips too! Working every day with product design means we have an eye for attention to detail that is there in the material of the design, of the form of the pen to its finish, we appreciate the effort and long hours put in by the designer. It is this attention to detail that sets an ordinary pen apart from the designer pens we have curated here. Each design here will leave you in awe as well as with a smile as you share our enthusiasm – from the SpaceX inspired pen that ‘lands’ on your desk to those COPIC markers given a new lease of life in a more portable fan-shaped design. The designs in this collection are so essential, they will be elevated from a pen design to an essential EDC that will be the most valued gift you will ever own.
P.S. – This collection will make a really thoughtful Christmas gift for every stationery lover – it’s never too early to start Xmas shopping!

Inspired by the democratization of space travel and how one private company, founded by Elon Musk is leading the charge to make space-travel accessible to all, the Nominal Pen is literally designed to look like a rocket… making it perhaps the most literal take on the ‘space pen’. The pen’s name comes from the term ‘nominal’, often used for when everything’s going smoothly and according to plan. Designed as a celebration of SpaceX’s recent achievements of being the only private company to send humans to the ISS and bring them back (while even retrieving parts of the spaceship to be reused at a later date – something nobody’s ever done), the Nominal Pen models itself on the Falcon series of rockets (the Falcon 9 Block 5 in particular). The pen comes in a similar light+dark metal finish, featuring four retractable legs that open out, allowing it to stand vertically on its own… after all, it would be quite shameful to have to put a rocket-shaped pen in your pen-stand, right? The Nominal Pen’s retractable legs are operated by a twist-to-open mechanism machined right into the pen’s metal body… while the opposite end of the pen features a magnetic crew-capsule that detaches from the rocket-body!

Not technically a pen, the 3Dsimo MultiPro by Petr Duba is the wet dream of every designer/creator who just wants to go wild with creating and not be limited by the availability of prototyping or workshop tools. Designed to cut down on expensive gadgets that otherwise collect dust in your workshop, 3Dsimo MultiPro helps democratize creation, with its pen-shaped tool and detachable head system that works much like a hand-held power tool. Its detachable heads let it instantly transform into a drill machine, an electric screwdriver, a jigsaw, a foam-cutter, soldering iron, heat-etcher/engraver, and even a 3D printing pen (like the 3Doodler).

Celebrated as the most successful fountain pen in crowdfunding history, the Stilform INK is back in its minimal, delightful glory, but with a few tiny tweaks that make it better and more long-lasting. The pen comes in its signature cylindrical design, with two flat edges running length-wise to prevent it from rolling. Its iconic element lies in the magnetic cap, which cleverly self-aligns as it snaps to the pen, thanks to multiple hidden neodymium magnets that make sure the cap fits on the right way. To open the pen, just twist the cap causing the inner magnets to repel each other, and the cap effortlessly comes off to reveal the German-made Peter Bock nib sitting inside.

Created as a cross between a Pantone shade card and a stationery set, the Pen Fan fits 8 different flat-head sketch pens in a small, easy-to-carry set. The flat pens are connected to each other, forming a neat Japanese-fan style layout that displays all 8 colors for you to pick and choose from. Each individual sketch pen is detachable too, allowing you to snap off and on pens to create a palette of your choice! Stationery-hoarders, you’ve been warned.

An unusual looking and unusually handy piece of EDC, Noval Bell’s Darter pen comes entirely machined from aluminum and brass. The outer body sits at a remarkable 58mm in height (that’s the same size as an AA battery), and houses inside it a Cross Matrix ballpoint refill. Around the refill also sits the intricately machined sewing kit which cleverly houses 4 needles, a bobbin, 2 spools of thread, and even space for a spare button for good measure. The Cross Matrix ballpoint refill ensures the Darter works spectacularly as a writing instrument, while although the sewing module won’t be something you use often, it’ll be a practical lifesaver when you do end up needing it to stitch the hole in your pockets from your other extravagant purchases!

nuka comprises of an eternal pencil, made of a specialized alloy tip that can oxidize a paper’s surface without a residue, essentially making it run forever (and not need sharpening either). While that, in itself, is pretty marvelous, it comes with nuka’s invincible notebook. The notebook is waterproof, tear-proof, and works wonderfully in conjunction with the nuka pencil. Together, you can take notes practically anywhere, anyhow. Write in the rain, in the snow, upside down, or even in a hurry. nuka’s notebook is capable of being your canvas in practically any scenario without ripping, tearing, or affecting your line-quality. What do you do when the notebook gets over? nuka also comes with a specialized eraser fluid that lets you wipe the entire book clean, leaving not even a trace of your lines and notes. The eraser fluid comes in both spray and wet-wipe form, and wipes the oxidization/lines/notes off the paper, making it brand new, something even water or an eraser can’t do.

Designed by Alasdair MacLaine, Wingback’s Black Steel collection sports three minimal-yet-functional products that are bound to be an unwavering part of your everyday carry. A bullet-sized Key Cache helps you store emergency money on your keychain, while a mechanical pen with its comfortable broad design promises to be the last pen you’ll ever want to use. All of the Black Steel products are precisely lathe-manufactured in the UK using stainless steel, before being coated with a 3um thick surface of the magical Tungsten Carbide using a revolutionary process called magnetron sputtering. The result is a product with a black finish that’s still remarkably shiny, thanks to the steel sitting underneath it. You can even get custom personalized inscriptions laser-engraved onto your products, revealing the shining steel underneath the black coating. Each EDC gear is designed to be perfectly functional as well as aesthetic, with impeccable tolerances, and knurled surfaces that make using the items easy.

The concrete stationery created by 22Studio is no less than art, these are made to last lifelong and passed down as family collectibles through generations. Concrete is used to make this pen because it adds a rich look without making it shiny or fancy – it is simple but makes a bold statement. The solid pen starts as a liquid mixture of different elements and then it allowed to set like stone. The concrete pen is carefully designed and crafted by hand in the studio which gives it its unique personality.

Rather sardonically titled “Not Just Another Black Pencil”, Matteo Ercole’s pencil design is everything a stationery-lover wants. Bringing an avant-garde design to mechanical lead pencils, Ercole’s concept is as luxurious and desirable as most state-of-the-art collector-edition fountain pens are. With a thick, robust metal body, complete with an anodized finish and a matching-tone speckle (just like you’d see in professional camera bodies), Not Just Another Black Pencil is a delight to look at, as the light gently bounces off its satin-finish body, and I imagine it’s a pleasure to grip too, with the cold metal feeling just great against your fingertips.

Touch the SHIRO and it’s like nothing you’ve ever drawn or written with before. The diatomite-material, along with the SHIRO’s wavy texture are a complete tactile experience. The pen derives its name from the Japanese word for waves too, a reference not only to the unique wavy pattern on the pen’s body, but also the origin of the Diatomite material. Almost like holding an incredibly lightweight piece of stone, the SHIRO Drawing Pen feels equal parts light yet solid. The diatomite’s inherently porous nature also makes drawing/writing more comfortable, as the pen’s body absorbs moisture or perspiration on your hands, giving you an easy penning experience. Fitted with a graphite lead on the inside, the SHIRO is perfect for writing, sketching, and drawing plans. Whether it’s as small as a doodle in a notebook or a long as a detailed design sketch, SHIRO pulls you in with its incredible textured design, and keeps you in with its comfortable writing experience.

ATECH’s multifunctional seven-in-one pen is a marvel in itself. What starts off as a handy ballpoint pen goes on to reveal six more of its counterparts. Not only does it function as a ballpoint pen, but as a stylus for your smartphone and other touch screen devices, bottle opener, 2mm mini flat-head screwdriver, 2.5 mm Phillips screwdriver, smartphone stand, and a metric and inch ruler! It provides multiple solutions for your minute everyday problems! Crafted out of aluminum and copper, the tool is durable and easily portable, ensuring you don’t have to carry around your box full of heavy equipment here and there!

I can’t honestly grasp how I don’t have the Fume Marker Pen Stand and Package in my workspace already. Just a simple tinted transparent acrylic cube, the Fume acts as a rather beautiful pen-stand for your alcohol markers (something designers swear by). Its design doesn’t just have them laid out in an interesting format, it even allows you to segregate them by hue into three zones… One for color, one for warm grays, and one for cool grays. Love!

This uniquely colorful scooter comes with an ergonomic twist!

A bundle of fun and quirkiness meets personal transportation in Désormeaux/Carrette Studio’s creation, La Galoche, a feisty kick scooter. Crafted from aeronautical aluminum, La Galoche possesses a geometrically curvaceous form, slithering through the air, while occupying minimal space. If everyone were to hop on a La Galoche, traffic congestion would reduce considerably. Its colorful and cheerful aesthetics are reminiscent of a race car from the 60s or 70s, with a wide option of customizations and accessories. You can pick out color combinations, wooden covers for your wheels, and more!

The handlebar of the scooter is indeed handy. Replacing the traditional straight steering column with a column that has a unique bend in it, this new shape lets you attach the scooter onto any kind of street furniture, such as a bench, lamp post, pole, mailbox, etc. Boasting a leather handlebar and a wooden platform to you set your foot, what makes La Galoche even more portable and compact is its perfectly integrated, and not to mention patented folding system. Whenever you’re tired of zipping around on your scooter, you can fold it up, pushing together its upper and lower half to create one long carry on. La Galoche’s curvy structure provides a perfectly ergonomic hollow opening for you to rest the scooter on your arms or your back. A leather strap in its center also works as a handle, to carry it around everywhere with ease. There’s even a tiny headlight right above the scooter’s front wheel to light up your path in the dark!

I fell in love with La Galoche at first sight! Its exuberant aesthetics take us back to our childhood when we were always on the lookout for the most eccentric and colorful bicycles. Though it is more convenient and compact than the bicycles of our younger years, La Galoche still manages to incite the same delight we felt on hopping on our dear little cycles! Highly functional, and perfect for the bustling city life, La Galoche reminds us that adulthood can be a little fun and frivolous too!
