Golfi Robotic Golfer Putts Like a Pro

After the robotic uprising, all sports will be played by robots, reducing humans to mere spectators of our own demise. And ready to compete in the robotic PGA is Golfi, a robot designed to be able to sink putts with the very best of them. The very best of them being me at miniature golf, just to be clear. You should see me putt right between those windmill blades!

Golfi uses a Microsoft Kinect 3D camera to create a depth map of the putting surface, then uses its 3,000 putt neural network training database to make a shot based on a physics model. It takes additional factors into consideration before swinging the club as well, including “the rolling resistance of the turf, weight of the ball, and its starting velocity.” It probably does not take into consideration me rushing the green and kicking the ball into the rough yelling, “Robots suck!”

Well, at least it’s can’t drive or chip balls yet; at least there’s that. Also, I would love to see this thing try to maneuver itself into a sand trap without falling over and rendering itself incapacitated in the sand. Now that’s something I would tune in to watch on television.

Engadget editors share their current YouTube obsessions

With TV production on hold and most film releases pushed back, the well of new content for us to consume while cooped up at home has started to dry up a bit. Some people are using the time to catch up on a long backlist or rewatch old faves (I’m in t...

Roomba-Like Ball Picker Robot Tidies Your Golf Range

ballpicker-1

Running a driving range? You have a lot of work to do, like picking up those hundreds of balls. Normally, ranges hire a kid to drive around picking them up in a fortified cart, while golfers do their best to hit the moving target. This tradition might come to an end if the Ball Picker Robot from TrueBots takes off. It autonomously goes around picking balls up, and can haul up to 10,000 in a day, 300 of them at a time. It is able to handle ranges up to 2 to 2.8 ha in area. The company doesn’t sell the bots, but rather opts to rent them out, along with another bot, BigMow, which also autonomously mows the lawn.

Skateboard + Golfcart = Golfboard

If you want to make your rounds of golf go faster, try this new invention. Why spend five hours on the golf course, when you can use the GolfBoard to reduce that time to under four hours. That’s an extra hour you can spend doing other things.

This four-wheel drive vehicle hits speeds of up to a whopping 10 MPH and it even has room for a set of clubs. You just steer by leaning. The deck is just like a skateboard, so riding it is like riding an oversized motorized skateboard. Anybody can do it at those speeds. The 11-inch wheels give good traction, but won’t tear up the green, so it is respectful to the course.

Deal Of The Day: 26% Off On SwingTIP Golf Swing Lesson And Device

redesign_swingtip_mf

Did you guys know Father’s Day is just around the corner? Yeah, so you know how dads like to play golf (please humour us on this stereotype, ok?), but they’re always complaining that they suck and wish they could afford lessons. Well, technology is here to help. You’re looking at a deal on two things. First, it’s the SwingTIP device, which attaches to your driver and measures your swing’s speed, tempo, and path, as well as the club face angle and the impact zone on that same face. There’s a lot of factors that go into getting that perfect swing, and this device will help your dad analyze all of them. But that’s not all. You also get a voucher for a 15 minute remote lesson with a coach, who will see your dad do his thing live by using the MobiCoach application, a smartphone or tablet, and the SwingTIP device, and offer his professional advice and coaching.

It’s a lot of stuff for $99, which would normally cost $134. And it could make for one sweet Father’s Day present.

X9 Follow Electric Caddy Replaces Real Person, Frees Your Hands And Shoulders

X9-Follow-Bluetooth-powered-Golf-trolley-1

Golfing alone can be fun and relaxing, but there’s always that heavy bag of clubs to carry around with you from hole to hole. And while caddies are great, maybe you want to remain truly solo. That’s where the X9 Follow comes in. It’s a portable electric device that carries your bag for you, and follows you around wherever you go. You just take it out from your car trunk, connect the battery, pair the remote, attach your bag and go. As long as you have the remote on your body, it’ll follow you around a few paces behind. When you reach your hole, place the remote on the X9 and it’ll stay put. It’s able to go uphill and downhill with no problem, and will even let you remote control it manually.

The X9 is not a new product; robotic caddies have been around for some time. But there are a host of new features that make this one stand out from its predecessors. But as you can imagine, this sort of convenience comes at a price: $3,250! Well… golfing is a rich person’s sport, so we’re not altogether surprised.

SensoGlove revamp brings automatic pressure check, stops us from strangling our golf swing

SensoGlove revamp brings automatic pressure check, stops us from strangling our golf swing

Hand rookie golfers a driver and they'll frequently make the classic mistake of gripping the club as though their lives depend on it. A seasoned veteran knows that a little give and take might be needed, which is why Sensosolutions just updated its long-serving SensoGlove to better encourage a balanced hold. The new automatic sensitivity toggle will offer a recommended grip through the LCD based on how tightly the club has been held in the past; throttle the 9 iron often and you'll be asked to loosen up. Longer battery life is also in the cards versus the older model, although we're reaching out to determine how many more holes the glove will handle in one charge. No matter how you slice (or hook) it, the newer SensoGlove is shipping for $89 in versions for both hands and multiple sizes.
