Spherical Transparent Sun Power Generator

Cleaner, cheaper and more efficient energy is the future and also the now, with the Rawmelon Beta.ray 1.00 generator being one of the more intriguing products in this field we’ve seen recently.

The Beta.ray 1.00 comes with a hybrid collector to convert daily electricity and thermal energy at the same time. It features what the company calls a breakthrough patent pending micro dual axis tracking unit for full environmental integration with very little weather impact, while coming at what they call an affordable price (€6,000).

How it works

Back to the point of the hybrid collector, the conversion happens while  reducing the silicon cell area to 25% with the equivalent power output by using an ultra transmission ball lens. At night time  the Ball Lens can transform into a high-power lamp to illuminate your location, simply by using a few LED’s.

The Beta.ray.100 is also designed for off grid conditions as well as to supplement buildings’ consumption of electricity and thermal circuits like hot water. It’s easy to transport and install, with a support frame that includes the plugs necessary in order to connect with the local grid including a security panel behind the collector. Ecological shower recycles its own water

The planet can’t be saved overnight and sustainability is hard, yet with more inventions like these, we’re already halfway there.

Can you imagine showering with water that you’ve already used to shower before? Sounds nasty, right? Yet turns out it isn’t, and it’s an incredibly clever system that both saves water and ensures the users don’t have to smell unpleasant, by recycling its own water.

This shower is the creation of Orbital Systems in cooperation with NASA, and you can remove that imagery of dirty water running through your body now. These systems filter the water each and every time before it gets to the user again. The interchangeable cartridges ensure that the water stays clean and that users get an even cleaner water than the one that comes out of the tap.

Each cartridge costs as little as $25(USD), which is good for some 7,900 gallons of water. The initial cost, that of the shower itself, though, is some $4,000 for a floor integrated model or $5,000 – expensive, but not entirely out of reach. And, if the claims of saving 90% of the water and 80% of the energy one would normally use are true, one might even end up saving money by the end.

The Snow Shovel’s compact size makes it ideal for clearing the tight spots around your car in the driveway where a full sized snowblower simply would not fit. It’s also great for condo and apartment dwellers with smaller areas to clear. You could even keep it fully charged in the back of your car just in case you get plowed in. Take a look at these indoor/outdoor pieces of furniture. While they may look like normal chairs and a table made entirely out of molded concrete, each piece has a little something unexpected that’s pretty awesome. Do you see it? Here’s a hint: it’s green. I’m not just talking about the color green though, there’s literally greenery growing out of each one.

Each one has a built-in pocket designed to hold living plants. The chair has a pocket atop each of it’s legs as does this fantastic looking Queen Anne style table below (which also has more spots along each of it’s sides):

No need for a separate planter, this coffee or end table below has a huge (relatively speaking) tree growing right out of the middle of the table.

The glass top lets you see the entirety of the plant. Other top styles are available too if you don’t want to see your roots. Thoughtfully they’ve covered the soil with some sort of mossy grass. Here’s a closer look:

Usually the sun makes your car much hotter but with the Kulcar Solar Powered Car Ventilator Solar Powered Car Ventilator the sun can make your car cooler. The Kulcar fits into most any roll down window (note that it will work much better with straight windows as opposed to ones with a slight curve to the top) with the solar panel going outside the car and the fan on the inside.

A rubber strip completes the seal and keeps bugs and small critters out of your vehicle while it’s parked. Since it’s solar powered, it requires no additional power or wires. Just set it up and cool down. Here’s what it looks like inside the car:

The Kulcar works by expelling hot air from the vehicle. Since it’s mounted on the top of your car and hot air rises (physics!), the air that is ventilated out is the hottest and your car cools down. Kulcar promised to cool your car by at least 18 degrees F and up to 68 degrees. It replaces the air in your entire vehicle every 90 seconds which not only cools your car down but also eliminates many odors or off-gassing that can occur when dashboards and other parts are exposed to extreme heat.

Got an extra 7000 spare keyboard keys lying around in a closet somewhere? I know I do. Why not use them for clothing? Make yourself a keyboard keys costume just like this guy did. That’s Enterman above and Virus below. It doesn’t look like Virus can actually see out of his (or her?) costume but we all have to make some small sacrifices in the name of fashion, right?

That vest and jacket/shirt actually look somewhat wearable. Not that I would wear it (in public) but you could wear it. Why you would is a whole different question for another day. And how exactly does one acquire so many spare keyboard keys anyway. I suppose this recycling is better than tossing them into a landfill. Marginally better.

Pianos Turned into a Staircase

This is definitely the most creative use for old pianos we’ve seen since the piano bookshelf. A crafty upcycler turned a pair of upright pianos into a staircase and a loft bed. Every part of the piano was reused for this project. A note inside one of the pianos indicated that it had last been tuned in 1904! The staircase is built to somewhat represent the shape of a high-heeled shoe. Really cool staircase, I’d love to have this in my house. (kilometer zero via recyclart)
