Chibson Placebo Pedal Does Nothing: Air Guitar Essential

Give the guitar nerd in your life the gift of nothing with Chibson USA and Daredevil Pedals’ Placebo Pedal. All of its parts are legit – the knobs, the footswitch, the power indicator light, and the I/O jacks. It’s just that it doesn’t do anything besides give you something to step on.

But the legitimately cool thing about the Placebo Pedal is that you can pay extra to get a DIY PCB kit that will let you turn this useless trinket into an actual fuzz pedal.

Daredevil Pedals sells the Placebo Pedal for $99 (USD), and the pedal plus the DIY PCB kit for $125.

Fender Final Fantasy XIV Stratocaster Electric Guitar: Axe of the Rock Emperor

The trailer for Final Fantasy XIV’s upcoming expansion Endwalker has a refreshing rock soundtrack. It turns out the theme doesn’t end there. Square Enix teamed up with guitar experts Fender to create limited-edition Stratocasters with visual touches inspired by the hit MMORPG. It will also come with a hard case that has the game’s logo. The guitar will be available in Japan this October, and in Europe and North America in early 2022. The catch? You’ll have to have one heck of a real-life job to afford it.

This or a 3080? Fortunately for Eorza’s virtual citizens, a digital version of the guitar will also be added to the game in a couple of ways. Patch 5.55 will add the axe to the Bard’s Performance mode arsenal, as well as a wall-mounted furnishing for homes. The patch should be up by 5/25/21.

French Fry Guitar: Would You Like Strings with That?

Out of all of the fast food french fries out there, McDonald’s still makes some of the best. They’re skinny, crispy, salty, and delicious. If you like Mickey D’s fries and know how to play guitar, you might want to pick up this rare instrument that looks just like a box of yummy french fries.

Built by master luthier (and expert fry guy) John Bolin, this rare electric guitar recently turned up for sale from the band Doublewide Kings over on Reverb. The french fry guitar is just one of three artist’s proofs ever made, and although it’s already been used, it looks like the fries are still golden brown and crispy, and I don’t see any ketchup on the strings.

One of my favorite details is the tiny McDonald’s arches that are inlaid along the fretboard. Nice touch. It also says “I’m lovin’ it” on the backside.

If you’ve got $6500 to kicking around, you can grab these truly supersize fries for your guitar collection. Just be sure to see if they’ll toss in a Big Mac or two for that price.

Do you really think John Mayer, Jon Bon Jovi, Elton John, John Fogerty, or John Denver carry their lunches in paper bags? Open the door, strum a guitar. The GuitDoorbell is not an actual doorbell you can ring (like the Piano Key Doorbell) but more like a door chime that makes a sound when you open or close the door. Yo Chewy drop the bass, I’m about to take a rockin’ (Han) solo. If this Falcon’s rockin’, Storm Troopers are sure to come a’knockin’. UK based luthier Doni Custom Guitars specializes in building guitars with a twist. Like his signature Rebel Bass made from a Millennium Falcon (a toy, not the real one). But the bass guitar is no toy, it’s a legit instrument. Take a look inside:

She may not look like much, but she’s got it where it counts, kid. He has made multiple versions of this bass, with varying headstock designs ranging from Han Solo to this Chewbacca one:

But wait, that’s not all. As long as they’re adding electronics to the Falcon to convert it to an electric bass, why not make the whole thing light up like it’s about to enter hyperspace on it’s way to doing the Kessel Run in under 12 parsecs?

Really cool. While each Rebel Bass is unique, it’s not a one-off design, so I’m sure Doni would be glad to make one for anyone who needs an instrument for their personal Cantina Band.

GuitDoorbell Is More Of A Door Chime Than A Doorbell

We usually think of a doorbell as something that alerts people on the inside that there may be visitors wanting to enter on the outside. This GuitDoorbell makes a strumming sound when the door is actually opened, which alerts people on the inside that someone already entered. That makes this product’s name a bit of a misnomer, though we suspect that GuitDoorChime (or whatever) may have sounded stupid to the products creators. Whatever gripes we may have about the name, the product is kind of cool; set the guitar to play any chord, and each time anyone enters it’ll play it. We think it naturally belongs in a music store, sure, but we can picture this in any home without stretching our imagination too much. It’ll cost you $150, and comes in two colours.

Rock the Cantina with this Star Wars guitar. Made by Rainy Day Instruments, the body of this electric guitar is a repurposed C-3PO action figure case (who even knew they had another one besides the Vader case?) The case can still open up and talk (why didn’t the Darth Vader one talk? too scary probably).

While threepio is not exactly known for his smooth melodic speech pattern, that never stopped anyone from succeeding in music *cough* Bob Dylan *cough*. Well, now that I’ve insulted the greatest lyricist of a generation, let’s throw another damper on your day- the one of a kind guitar is no longer available and there doesn’t appear to be any video of it in action.
