CASIO G-SHOCK Gundam Collection Puts a Mech on Your Wrist

Gundam fans have some sweet new collectables, and they look amazing. This collection of Gundam-themed G-SHOCK watches from CASIO are made to celebrate Gundam’s 40th anniversary. Can you believe the mech franchise been around for four decades?

There are four watches in the series, each with colors and designs inspired by Gundam, including RX-78-2 Gundam, MS-06S Char’s Zaku II, RX-0 Unicorn Gundam, and RX-0 Unicorn Gundam 02 Banshee.

Aside from good looks, each of these watches comes with a “Haro” storage container with the RX-78-2 Gundam, RX-0 Unicorn Gundam, and RX-0 Unicorn Gundam 02 Banshee in Green Haro while Char’s Zaku in Zaku Red Haro storage. In case you didn’t know, “Haro” is the ball-like robot that can transform from ball to robot.

The Casio G-SHOCK x Gundam Collection will be available on CASIO’s China ecommerce store on Taobao in mid-2019. The RX-78-2 is 1,390 yuan (~$207 USD), Char’s Zaku II is 1,090 yuan ($163 USD), RX-0 Unicorn Gundam is 1,090 yuan (~$163 USD) and the Banshee is 1,690 yuan (~$252 USD).

Aside from looking way cooler, these watches are pretty much the same G-SHOCKs you know already, with all the same features and functionality.

Gundam fans can bring home a lifelike Haro next year

Gundam fans will no doubt recognize this adorable Haro robot from the anime, as did I on the CEATEC show floor in Tokyo. As it turns out, Bandai, Bandai Namco, IBM and VAIO have joined forces to bring us a lifelike "Gundam Concierge Haro" aka "Ganshe...

Tokyo’s Giant Gundam Unicorn Nearly Complete!

One of the greatest things I’ve ever seen in person was the giant Gundam statue that most recently stood in the Odaiba section of Tokyo. Shortly after I visited the statue at the end of last year, it was dismantled, leaving an empty spot in front of the DiverCity Mall, and a hole in my heart.

Well, the good news is that we didn’t have to wait long for a brand new Gundam statue to take its place.

This time, we’re getting a life-size Mobile Suit Gundam Unicorn statue, and it’s already nearly complete. Photographer Darwinfish105 has been staking out the construction site as workers put the finishing touches on the giant mech, and has been posting updates over on his Vimeo channel. His most recent time-lapse video shows the statue being assembled, with just his feet and some final decals left to be added.

If you’re ever fortunate enough to visit Tokyo, you’ll definitely want to take the time out of your day to catch the train over to Odaiba and get up close and personal with this amazing creation.

This Japanese VR arcade put me inside ‘Mario Kart’

Back when Bandai Namco opened its first VR arcade in Tokyo last April, I was keen to check out its various HTC Vive-powered VR games. My first ride there would have been Gundam VR: Daiba Assault, just so I could get a taste of what it's like hitching...

Fan Makes Awesome Gundam Pokémon Figures

The only things that Pokémon and Gundam really have in common are that they both come from Japan. At least that is all they had in common until Imgur user Khrisamisu was inspired to create these Pokémon models in Gundam style.

To create the kitbashed Pokémondam figures, the builder took three iconic Pokémon characters and then created Gundam mobile suits using parts from different Gundam model kits.

Charizard started out as the Gundam Danazine mobile suit with some bits from the AEU Enact mech kit, and some custom paint. The finished product is called the PM-006 Charlie. The next is Squirtle made using parts from the Gusion mobile suit with an extra canon added. It’s know known as the PM-009 Sheldon. The last is the Venusaur known as the PM-003 Petunia.

The models are very cool and look much like their Pokémon forms.
