Hat-wearing Hamster Owns Super Mario Maze
I used to think hamsters were cool until about 1990 when the field behind our house caught fire and all the field mice fled… right into our house. The little fuzzy bastards apparently liked it there and they would wake me up at all hours of the night doing whatever mice do in the dark. Now I can’t stand rodentia of any sort.
Some Japanese folks built an awesome Super Mario Bros. maze for their hamster to run through and the little guy dominated the maze. It’s a bit like Ninja Warrior, only for tiny rodents.
The video is well worth a watch. I guess hamsters can be pretty cute as long as they aren’t running loose in my house.

This Hamster-Powered Machine Draws Pictures of Hamsters
Hamsters would be great at powering machines since they can run forever on those hamster wheel things. Forget nuclear or solar power. In the future, everything will be powered by these chubby little furballs with limitless energy.
This hamster-powered machine that actually draws pictures of hamsters is just the beginning. I’m glad Robotics artist Neil Mendoza stopped there and didn’t make one that draws pictures of hamsters, drawing pictures of hamsters, and so on…
Hamsters are the future. Just accept it. They have the power. We have the innovation. An amazing hamster-powered future is coming.
One Fast Cat: A Giant Hamster Wheel for Cats
Do you have a fat cat? Don’t just let it lay around all day. Send it to the gym with this oversize exercise wheel for cats. It’s called One Fast Cat and it will cost you $200. That’s a steep price for a cat gym membership, but it’s either that or you have Jabba the Cat laying around eating toads all day.
It is made from recycled plastics and the inside surface is made from a special foam to prevent claws from catching, allowing your cat to run naturally. In addition, it’s easy to set up and breaks down for easy shipment.
Regardless of your intentions, this may be the most expensive cat toy your cat ignores. If I know cats, most will just sniff this thing and then never look at it again.
* – The cat in the video not typical. He was paid to exercise. Mine would never break a sweat.

Hamster-powered Strandbeest Will Help Hamsters Rule the World
Hamsters now have a new mech that they can use to conquer the world. This neat Strandbeest is powered by a hamster in a wheel. The hamster inside turns some gears, which move the mechanism forward. Your kids will love it as a hamster toy, but your hamster will love it because he/she will now have a vehicle. World domination can’t be far behind.
It’s pretty creepy watching a hamster move such a machine. Maybe we should just bow down to our new masters now and accept our fate.
Maybe the cats will help us. Cats are our friends right? Right?

Cecilia Valentine’s “Fur is Alive” Wearables Are Really Alive
Sometimes, the right accessories make a person’s outfit come alive. Other times, it’s the accessories being worn that’s actually alive, and that’s the case with Cecilia Valentine’s “Fur is Alive” series.
Her pieces are composed of bulky but hollow 3D-printed pieces that look plain on their own. If they might remind you of animal cages, then you’re spot on, because they were actually designed with that purpose in mind.
Cecilia’s pieces might seem trivial, but they’re really not, because they were conceptualized with a strong message. On her website, she explains that the conceptual line “examines the exploitation of animals in fashion” and was not meant to be worn. She adds:
The designs incorporate living animals in an attempt to harness the true beauty of natural forms in a way that exposes the harsh reality of the fur industry, which is still widely accepted despite years of controversy. Fur is meant to be alive, and murdering an animal for the sake of design or beauty should never be tolerated.
In case you’re wondering, the bird was edited into the photo, while the hamster was “given many treats in return for his help.” Neat-o, and I definitely agree with Cecilia’s stand on the fur industry.
Hampture underwater colony established for science, leads the way for future hamster space exploration
Animals have had a rough time of it, when it comes to scientific exploration. Look no further than Laika, the first animal to orbit Earth, soon becoming the first animal to die in orbit, not too long after achieving that earlier distinction. The dwarf hamsters that occupy Hampture seem to be considerably happier in their own scientific explorations than the Soviet mutt, at the moment. Bob Averill brought the project to our attention last week on our visit to Portland, Oregon. According to the official blog, the project is an attempt to "learn firsthand what is involved in designing and constructing a complete underwater habitat capable of sustaining complex organisms." It also may well be a gateway to sending the hamsternauts into space via Skystation Mk1. Averill is also looking to turn Hampture into a salable product, though Kickstarter, for one, has apparently balked at the idea. In the meantime, you can check out a streaming feed of the habitat after the break and read up on the making of the project in the source links below.
