haoshi’s Crinkle Clock is a minimalist wall-clock that tells the time through light, shadow, and texture

With no markings and with hands that are exactly the same color as the clock’s body, the only way the Crinkle Paper X CLOCK tells the time is by using dramatic lighting. The timepiece comes with an aggressively textured body looking almost like crushed paper, atop which sit pristine, flat-surface hands. To tell the time, all you have to do is look for the flat surface against the crinkled crushed one. Boasting of an experience unlike any other, the Crinkle Paper X CLOCK is best kept in a place that receives dramatic light, for the most rewarding time-telling experience!

There’s an elegance to the Crinkle Paper X CLOCK’s design that makes it almost unintuitive to use. Most clocks try to present the time in a way that’s easier to read, but the Crinkle Paper X CLOCK does no such thing. Instead, it actively makes you spend more time trying to figure out the time. You’re forced to stare at the clock for a little longer than necessary, and as a result, you end up admiring its details, appreciating the texture, and the contrast the texture brings.

The clock’s white-on-white design is minimalism at its best, although this is the kind of minimalism that directly clashes with utility. It isn’t possible to read the time under quite a few scenarios, and chances are you’ll find yourself walking over to the clock to get a clearer view… but therein lies the Crinkle Paper X Clock’s beauty. It forces you to stop and take stock of your life, to take an extra few seconds and breathe instead of rushing through the day.

The wall clock comes with a body crafted from resin and paper pulp. This combination of materials is what gives the Crinkle Paper X Clock its unique translucency that feels extremely paper-like. Two flat-cut plastic hands sit on top, rotating to tell the time against the highly textured background.

This isn’t Taiwan-based haoshi design‘s first foray into the timepiece area. Known for its quirky designs that make use of animals, haoshi’s worked on wonderful wall clocks that incorporate birds into them, and even goldfish!

This playful dog-inspired decorative lamp puts the ‘light’ in light-hearted!

Part lamp part adorable tabletop sculpture, the Playful Dog X Lamp is emotional design at its best! Lamps are mainly utilitarian, sometimes they’re decorative, sometimes they’re IoT-connected, but the Playful Dog X Lamp is just straight-up adorable! Designed to look like a dog playing with a ball, the lamp features a sculpture of a canine that’s got the lamp’s glowing orb in its mouth. Whether switched on or off, the Playful Dog X Lamp is made to delight with its inventive fun approach to lighting design. In fact, some 90’s kids would also call this design rather ‘fetch’!

Designer: haoshi design

“Having a naturally playful dog can definitely add color into your life and give you a lot of joy and fun”, say the designers at Taipei-based haoshi design. “The Playful Dog Lamp from haoshi applies the interesting design of the dog biting the ball, which allows the people’s focus on the ray of light. No matter you leave the house or arrive home, it always gives you a knowing smile to the partner.”

Visually, the lamp can be split into its two parts. The light and the base, if you want to call it that. The light assumes the shape of a translucent ball with an LED lamp inside it, while the fixture sits snugly within the mouth of a Shiba Inu in the downward dog position, making it look like the dog’s playfully biting the lamp. Like all of haoshi’s pieces, the animal is in pure white, giving it a classic appeal that allows it to easily fit into most decor, adding a detailed sculptural accent piece to even minimalist homes!

The dog part of the lamp comes crafted from resin, giving it that incredible detail that you wouldn’t get in injection molding, and that would take practically forever with 3D printing.

Designed to be placed anywhere, the Playful Dog X Lamp can be positioned on shelves, tables, or even the floor (provided you don’t have an actual dog who’d get excited at the sight of it). The lamp measures roughly over a foot in length and just about 10 inches in height, and weighs a hefty 2.5 kilos or 5.5 pounds, given that it’s cast from resin. It comes with a warm-white E14 LED light on the inside.

Haoshi Design Studio’s sparrow timepiece is a clock with a flock!

With a couple of sparrows casually perched in front of it, the Sparrow Round Clock seamlessly integrates timepiece and sculptural decor. The white birds give the clock a beautiful neoclassical sculptural appeal, as the clock sits right behind it, both partially obscured yet visible to the eye.

What Taiwan-based Haoshi Design does is create a product-fusion where form and function coexist, but as separate entities within the same product. The clock isn’t sculptural, and the sparrows aren’t functional… and they could separately exist as two, mundane products too. However, combine them together and they become the beautiful and joyful clock that is sure to make you smile every time you look at it!

Would be wonderful if the clock had a backlight too, right?

A Vase with Added Character

sparrow_vase_layout_2

This beautifully crafted and elegantly designed Vase is the Sparrow X Vase from Haoshi Design. Interrupting the imperfection-free body of the vase are two intricately detailed and inquisitive looking Sparrows, that subtly protrude out from their homes.

The immense detail of the characterful birds strikingly contrasts against the concise and simplistic form of the Vase, this is only enhanced by the pure, white-marble texture that completes the refined finish. Not only do the distinctive birds add a welcomed element of visual interest and individuality, but they also delightfully complement the naturalness of the flowers that are contained with the vessel.

A wall-clock for the creature of the night!

moon_clock_cover

There have been loads of times where design and art have blended into each other so much, I couldn’t tell the difference. This happens to be one such time. The Moon Clock series aren’t industrial, or don’t boast of functionality, or cutting edge production. They’re just beautiful artistic representations of a rather poetic idea. The clock series turn the face of the timepiece into a perfect full-moon, while putting nocturnal animals in a corner, of the dial, making it almost like you’re gazing at a full moon with a nightly animal companion. Not the conventional brief-based functional design you’d usually see on YD… but beautiful design nevertheless!
