The ‘NeckBook’ is a maverick laptop concept that lets you adjust the height and angle of its display

While laptops are lauded for their portability, their biggest caveat is that they often aren’t too ergonomic. You can either make a slim, lightweight, portable machine, or you can make one that’s ergonomically designed keeping human factors and proportions in mind. That notion, however, is being challenged by the NeckBook, a maverick laptop concept created by JooHyung Park, with an adjustable display.

The NeckBook, as its name should rather aptly suggest, is a laptop that has a display with a ‘neck’. Unlike conventional laptops that connect their displays directly to the base using a set of hinges, the NeckBook adds a sliding rail (or a neck) between them. Once you flip open your lid, as you would with any conventional laptop, the NeckBook lets you pull the display upwards, adjusting its height. The display slides up and down the neck, and can swivel left and right too, giving you an infinite amount of control over your viewing experience – something a regular laptop can’t.

The ability to adjust your laptop monitor’s height is an absolute game-changer, because laptops are notorious for causing neck strain over time. A desktop monitor often sits at a height, allowing you to keep your neck straight, while a laptop monitor sits much lower (since it’s attached to the keyboard) causing you to unnaturally bend your neck. NeckBook aims to eliminate this problem by giving the laptop a neck of its own. You can easily pull the display up to your eye level so you don’t need to bend your neck anymore, and when you’re done, slide the display back down and shut the laptop. At least on paper, it’s a remarkably useful feature that gives you the best of both worlds – portability and ergonomics.

Without getting too deep into the technical aspects of the design, what the NeckBook proposes is theoretically pretty easy to execute. Companies have experimented with swivel displays plenty of times in the past – if you remember the weird ‘convertible laptop’ phase around 2015 – albeit with little commercial success. My only real gripe with the NeckBook concept (apart from the fact that it’s not real) is that the laptop’s neck has been given what feels like too much prominence. The neck in this concept is a utilitarian detail, and highlighting it on the outside not only reduces the laptop’s smooth/sleek aesthetic, but it also imparts an industrial appearance to the laptop. A neck that sat flush against the laptop’s lid, or was concealed inside a potentially thicker lid, would probably really help seal the deal on this idea, which my currently deformed neck could really use right about now.

Grow Taller Using Insole Gadgets

Grow Taller Using Insole Gadgets

Insoles will make you appear taller.

Research indicates a possible link between height and confidence. But also, society sees people that are an inch taller than the rest as happier, better and superior. Appearing taller is important for men, who want to impress and attract the members of the opposite sex – nature taking its course.

Science informs us that such factors as genes and production of human growth hormone play an important role in determining how tall we become. It is a fact that our bones fuse, and stop growing after puberty. But does that mean there’s no hope for the past-puberty folks? There is hope.

There are several tricks that you can use to appear taller, without invasive procedures or other solutions. Among them is wearing clothes that hug your body. Not too tight.

You can also trick the view of other people to focus on the upper body, thus creating the impression that you are taller. You can do this by wearing accessories like a hat, pocket squares, tie pins, lapel pins, and glasses.

If you can make them believe you are taller, then who is to say you are not?

Insole Gadgets to Appear Taller

In addition to changing your wardrobe, you can use insole gadgets to lift your stature a bit and feel taller. The devices come in different sizes, and you can choose them depending on the height increase you want. For example, the tools from Altitude Lifehacks are available in 2cm. 3cm and 5cm.

Other brands like Talony fit inside your shoe and act like an adjustable lift. The material of the insole is soft PVC and will mold to the shape of the foot making your height increase even more comfortable.

Elevator Insoles fit your favorite shoes and make you three inches taller, instantly. These devices allow you to adjust to your ideal height, accordingly.

Benefits of Using Insoles to Appear Taller

Insoles are comfortable to use, and you don’t need any instructions to fit them into your shoe. You can purchase and use them on the same day you are meeting your blind date. Insole gadgets are also not limited to one particular gender. Men, as well as, ladies can use them and prop their confidence.

Some specialized insoles can correct length discrepancies on a foot, spinal shrinkage and provide back pain relief. That means you don’t only use these gadgets for physical appeal but also for therapeutic reasons.

Insole gadgets are noninvasive, and most of them are very comfortable, making you feel better with each stride, and more confident in the presence of acquaintances. Good quality insoles are breathable and durable.

Shortcomings of Using Insoles to Appear Taller

While the height increase you obtain from wearing insole gadgets is temporary, the benefits that you get from using them may also be short-lived, especially if you are using them to get a life partner. It will not take long before the cat is let out of the bag. But look on the bright side. The insoles will bring you that far, but your charm and personality will take you further.

The Expendables 2 Blu-ray ships November 20th and is the first one with 11.1 channel DTS Neo:X audio

The Expendables 2 Bluray comes home next month, will be the first with 111 DTS NeoX audio

Just when we were getting used to 7.1 channel surround sound audio tracks on our movies, our friends at High Def Disc News have pointed out Lionsgate's announcement of The Expendables 2 on Blu-ray that cranks the audio up to 11 -- 11.1 to be exact. The extra channels come courtesy of the new DTS Neo:X codec which includes support for speakers in the front mounted both high and wide to create more of a 3D audio effect that can simulate planes flying overhead or a car driving past. While those who have upgraded their receivers and added extra speakers will mostly experience the effect thanks to upmixing, it does allow for an 11.1 audio track with the extra channel info matrixed into a standard 7.1 audio track.

Of course, with a supercharged action flick like TE2 there should be plenty of explosions to give any audio system a workout, and now we have one more reason to check it out when it's released November 20th (just beating the also Neo:X ready Step Up Revolution to the punch.) Beyond the audio there's also several making-of featurettes if you need more Jason Statham, Jet Li, Dolph Lundgren, Terry Crews, Randy Couture, Bruce Willis, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Chuck Norris and Jean-Claude Van Damme in your life, plus UltraViolet and regular Digital Copy; all of which is currently available for pre-order on Amazon for $27.99. Check out a press release with all the specs plus a theatrical trailer for the movie and a video explaining DTS Neo:X audio after the break.

Remember Growing Up

Marking our height on the door frame when we were growing up is a fond memory for many of us, but as time goes by the marks usually get covered up, or people move and forget about them. Sad huh?! The Height Recorder is a thoughtful design that makes it possible to carry the memory with you anywhere. Hang the stick against the wall, placing marks on it each year. When the child is fully grown, the stick can be cut into pieces and made into musical scales like a xylophone!
