Did you know that automatic washing machines can’t be placed vertically like dryers even though that setup is trending in new apartment layouts? Placing them vertically makes it difficult to use in areas with limited floor space. So to solve this functional interior design problem, Hyun Yeol Shin designed Tilt, a washing machine that can be installed freely (horizontally and vertically) and the best part is how the laundry tank tilts towards you so no more crazy bending or squatting!

Tilt’s innovative design makes it easier to put in and remove laundry out, especially for those who may already suffer from aches, pains, or minor mobility issues that make laundry more difficult than it should be. Drum washing machines are inconvenient and with Tilt, you can have washing performance of automatic washing machines, shorter washing time than drums, cleaner washing machines due to contamination, and it can be arranged vertically! Tilt can be set up in the same environment as the dryer due to narrow laundry rooms are no more a problem and neither is moving around to do laundry.

It definitely makes it easier for pregnant women and for younger kids to get involved in helping out without having to use tongs to take the laundry out. The tilting mechanism of the door makes it easy for anyone to do laundry. It maximizes space utilization and the replaceable panel design allows you to choose based on your space. I am a personal fan because there have been multiple incidents where I have squatted down to take the laundry out to put it in the dryer above and hit my head on the dryer’s door in the process – thanks to design’s like Tilt, I’ll save space, won’t have to bend and my head will remain bump-free!

A Humidifier for Work or Home

Humidifiers are a great way to add moisture to the air at home but the Pineal humidifier is one you can take to work. Most designs are powerful enough to handle humidifying large rooms or entire apartments, however, but their large size doesn’t make them appropriate for the workplace or office.

The Pineal’s compact size only takes up a small footprint on your desk yet it will provide you with a healthy zone of humidification for your personal enjoyment. Better yet, its sleek form feels more artistic than appliance so it won’t kill your workspace inspiration. Like the name suggests, it takes inspiration from the pinecone and features familiar scales that shift depending on the unit’s mode of operation. When closed, it omits a targeted spray upward. When expanded, they diffuse the mist to provide coverage to the immediate area.

Highway Lighting Only When You Need It

The advent of LED highway and street lights has come a long way to reduce energy consumption but what more can we do to decrease our collective usage? Designer Hyun Yeol Shin explores this question with his radical lighting design called the Smart Express Light.

Each unit operates autonomously and as part of the greater system. Ideal for high speed expressways in open areas, each post features an integrated turbine pole that harvests wind energy in order to power itself. The entire system is connected to a sensor that detects motion. They stay in off mode when the expressway is empty and are only activated when a car approaches. Paired with the innovative turbine system, this goes a long way to create and save renewable energy and prevent light pollution so we get our night sky back!

Shofar, So Good!

The Shofar humidifier takes ancient inspiration from the musical ram’s horn of the same name. Not only for looks, its interesting form is also quite effective at using gravity to ensure that water is constantly moved to the center before being transformed to vapor. The design is also equipped with a remote control that conveniently nests in the mouth of the unit. When you’re ready to use it, simply remove the control and adjust the settings from anywhere in the room. Masculine yet minimalistic, it’s easy to imagine this adorning the mantle in your modern man cave!

Dew You Need a New Purifier?

Did you know that dew is one of the few ways to collect safe drinking water in the wilderness?! In the urban jungle, however, DEWDROP is the safest! Inspired by the majestic look of morning dew that collects on a leaf, the aptly named DEWDROP provides an elegant source of purified water in any kitchen interior. Its unassuming spout mimics the form of a blade of grass weighed down by fresh dew. This abstract replication is enhanced by graphics on the surface that look similar to the veins on a leaf. Minimalistic touch-and-tap controls allow for intuitive temperature setting and glass size specification. Its slender form and small footprint make it ideal for maximizing counter space in compact living spaces.

A Fire Mask That’s As Easy as Swallowing a Pill

Most deaths in a fire incident don’t occur because of burning or heat, rather, they occur because of smoke inhalation. Despite this being the cause of 80% of fire deaths, not nearly as much attention is given to breathing apparatuses as fire extinguishers. If you can’t breathe, how could you even operate one?

The Emergency Escape Filter provides an easier and more convenient solution than standard masks thanks to its compact size and innovative filtration functionality. In the event of a fire hazard, its capsule shape can extend to reveal a clip which can be placed directly inside the nose. This creates an immediate link between the user’s airways and the inner filtration tech. Small and lightweight, it’s sure to stay in place and unlike other bulky masks, won’t get in the way while you’re trying to fight back the fire or make your way to escape.
