An air purifier you can wear as a necklace!

Today clean air is becoming more of a luxury than a bare necessity needed to survive. With the Earth’s atmosphere deteriorating by the minute, the health hazards are increasing manifolds. Lung cancer and cardiovascular diseases are the leading causes of death in the world. 6 million people die annually from smoking, 500,000 of those due to passive smoking. Pollution in large cities can take away 2-3 years off life expectancy. Moved by such dreary numbers, designers Jordan Steranka and Tai Geng decided to do their bit in moving towards a healthier and prolonged life for everybody. They created ‘Breathe’, an air purification product that provides us with clean air with every breath we take. Shaped like a nifty whistle, the primary goal was to make ‘Breathe’ as minute and handy as possible, without restricting airflow. Portability and physical comfort of the user were of the utmost importance. Equipped with a carbon filter that is connected to air sensors, and a removable mouthpiece which allows us to inhale through ‘Breathe’, it filters unclean air to allow it’s purest form to enter our system. The open structure allows for consistent airflow through an oblong airway, which also directs the airflow.

Huge attention to detail was given to the form factor of ‘Breathe’. The aim was to create a functional and fashionable product through the use of simple geometry. A braided necklace loop allows us to wear ‘Breathe’ around our necks! Looking like a trendy necklace, it bears minimal weight and is extremely convenient to carry around, unlike other current filtration devices which tend to be heavy and cumbersome. It’s a new form of an otherwise traditional wearable mask, which can be quite uncomfortable to wear and carry around. One of it’s most appealing features is that it comes along with a partnering app! The app displays how beneficial ‘Breathe’ is to our health. The device stores and collects data while in use. Once it is plugged into a smartphone via the audio jack, the data is uploaded automatically onto the app. The app exhibits all the particles, gases and toxins that are prevented from being inhaled by us, and where they can be found most commonly. Not to forget, Breathe’s battery is being charged throughout this! Highly functional, portable and convenient, ‘Breathe’ could literally be a lifesaver and will surely pave a path for a new era in air purifiers, replacing the age-old conventional masks!

Print is NOT dead!

print_device_1

The designer of the Print camera concept raises an important question? 20 years later, when you want to show your kids or grandkids snippets and memories of your life as a young person, what will you do? Direct them to your Instagram? Or provide them with a Google Drive link? No, right?

Memories are best preserved and relived in the tactile format, and that’s why Polaroid is making its comeback. There are some memories that should be personal, not on social media gathering blind-likes from practically virtual people who you haven’t met or talked to in years. Print steps in to pioneer that movement with a camera that acknowledges the print format.

Truly simple and smart in its design, the camera features one beautiful screen, 4 buttons on the front, and 2 interchangeable lenses. The screen on the back virtually ditches the bezel (looks like we have a design trend here). It looks a lot like a touch-input screen based on the UI, but is virtually completely controlled by buttons on the front. These large buttons are hard to miss, as they form the front facade of the product, divided beautifully by parting lines that run symmetrically across the product. The two interchangeable lenses allow you to switch between Landscape and Portrait styles, somewhat like the iPhone 7’s camera options.

While Print champions the instant-print format, it doesn’t abandon the web. The camera also allows you to publish your photos online on social media, or save them to your phone (as per my knowledge, only Fujifilm’s latest Instax Square SQ10 allows for physical and digital image storage). We also love the incredibly intuitive branding for the Print that outwardly looks like a finger’print’ but also contains the numbers 1, 2, and 3, in it, just tipping its hat to our age-old tradition of saying “One Two Three Cheese!” before we click a picture!

The Ultimate Cool-Tool

aperture_wrench_1

Every once in a while you come face to face with a product that redefines its standards in a way so simple, you wonder, “Why didn’t anyone every think of this before?” The Aperture Wrench is an aptly named wrench that takes inspiration from a camera’s aperture and the way it transforms. The wrench is designed around this awe-inspiring kaleidoscopic motion, allowing it to transform in size and fit around nuts and bolts of varying dimensions. It also includes a light ring around the aperture of the spanner, enabling you to work even in low light conditions.

The Aperture Wrench sure makes your everyday monkey-wrench look like it’s fit for primates!
