This flexible laptop could completely revolutionize the computer category

There’s nothing more disruptive than a product that challenges the presence of multiple markets. Meet the Paysage, a conceptual computing device that targets both laptop and desktop users with a unique hybrid design. Its design features a two-part construction – the main CPU, which sits within the keyboard-unit (like most laptops), and the screen, which rather than resting on the top of the keyboard, comes with a flexible construction that wraps around the top and the bottom, sandwiching the keyboard in between. The image above should fairly help illustrate what I mean.

This unique build is what sets the Paysage apart. Flip open half the screen and you’ve got yourself a standard laptop/netbook, equipped with a keyboard, trackpad, four USB-C ports, an Aux input, and its dedicated speakers. However, things get interesting when you realize that the entire keyboard unit detaches from the screen completely, leaving you with a much larger flexible display that you can open out and mount on a tabletop stand, giving you a desktop experience complete with a massive elevated screen and an external keyboard.

The Paysage was originally envisioned nearly a decade ago (and subsequently covered on YD too), and it’s only with recent advancements in flexible OLED displays that the Paysage seems more real. In its latest iteration, designer Kevin Depape details out the device further, with magnetic fixtures, connecting cables, and an overall design that seems like something Microsoft could pull off if they tried. A Surface DeskBook perhaps?!

The Nokia 5310 XpressMusic just got a clean, hip new revival!

The Nokia 5310 XpressMusic was to audio what the N.Gage was to gaming. Now I personally never got Nokia’s nomenclature system, but there are a few phones that really stood out, and the 5310 was definitely one of them. The company, of late, has been on a resurrection spree, bringing these phones back to life with a similar design and a refreshed OS on the inside that is smart enough, but otherwise still a handy, dumb phone.

The 5310 revival looks quite like the original, with the iconic buttons on the side of the screen that control music playback and volume. The phone still packs a camera, although don’t expect it to compare to the ones you find on smartphones of today. If you were to pit it against smartphones of today, its battery life which should easily last a week on standard usage and a whole month on standby. The phone also comes with a dual-SIM slot, and packs all the apps you’d want in your dumb phone, including a radio and the Snake game! Yeah, there’s Facebook too.

Notifications Objectified!

ombre_chinoise_lamp_1

The ‘Ombre Chinoise’ as curious as it sounds, does something uniquely pleasant. It “materializes notifications”. In a world where we need an app to remind us to eat, sleep, exercise, and even stand (yes, Apple Watch, I’m talking to you), the Ombre Chinoise is just a simple vessel in which you can keep items/reminders. The vessel then lights up, reminding you of the item/task within. It could be a note, bill, your keys, or even your phone. Let the bulb in the Ombre Chinoise illuminate that bulb in your brain!

Be an Accu-Chef

commis_01

Designed around the idea that accuracy is everything in the kitchen, Commis is an all-in-one, clever combination of two (perhaps even 3) commonly used cooking accessories. One minute it’s a scale for careful portion weighing… the other it’s a twist timer for precise cooking durations. Better yet, the included bowl can be use for measuring, mixing and even serving.

Mamba Meets Samba

Ok, that makes no sense but I like the ring to it! Anyways, here are two very cool and complimenting projects by our man Kévin Depape. One is the Mamba Lamp and the other is the Elastik Desk. While the Mamba plays on the on the archetype of a lamp by questioning its components; the Elastik revisits the traditional home desks while being inspired by the old classroom desks with storage on top.

Mamba is a lamp where the wire, which is often hidden or little, is highlighted on the lamp. The Elastik is a desk that allows you to store books, papers, folders and to route the cables through the storage slots.

For The Love Of Drumming

Ever caught yourself doing the air-drums in the middle of a song? Van Halen and WWRY get me to do that all the time. Well, the option of using a portable instrument like the Y-Drum is a good one, especially when it works out good for beginners. It is a mobile, accessible and easy to use; making the percussion practice even more fun.

As Kévin explains, “Everyone can build and customize his own set with the pads. All the system is synchronized via Bluetooth. So just set up or choose a drum set with the Roland’s application installed on the smartphone, the tablet or the computer and start to play!”

The Hybrid Laptop

This is the age of being multifunctional, hence a concept like the Paysage Laptop sound pretty acceptable. Here is a 14.1-inch laptop that features an inductive stand for the home. It looks super sexy in its brushed aluminum unibody design. A soft rubber hinge reinforced with a piece of metal inside gives it a maximum opening of 180°.

Use Paysage as a laptop or switch to a home PC of 21 inches. In the laptop configuration, all is powered by battery. However as a desktop computer, the screen is powered by the induction of the stand and connected via Bluetooth. It even features removable keyboard and trackpad!

The ICONE is an amplified speaker which provides 360° sound. Wireless technologies and Smartphone Apps integration (even tablet and computers) makes it the perfect listening companion for music lovers. It’s not portable but it works well as a multiroom system. Sounds good!
