An autonomous robot that ensures the only thing you do in a bookstore is read

We’re all familiar with autonomous robots. The idea of little robot butlers finishing up all our household chores is simply so inviting. Well, you’ve thought of robots in your homes, but what about robot helpers at bookstores! Large bookstores can be often difficult to maneuver and manage for the employees and the customers. But Naver Labs’ AROUND B promises to handle all of it. AROUND B is a cute compact robot with wheels that will ensure the books are where they are supposed to be.

When a customer enters a bookstore and begins browsing, AROUND B will guide them and carry their chosen books to a seating area, where they can go through their books in peace without having to stand around and shuffle through them. When they’re done browsing and are sure they want to pick up a certain book, they can simply place the book into AROUND B’s storage unit, and the mini robot will carry the book to the cashier! On the other hand, the books that didn’t make the cut and are left behind, AROUND B picks them up and takes them to a common section, wherein the employees can easily gather the books and put them back in their respective section. Now, in my book-loving mind, these little bots are the perfect accessory to my book-laden arms, ensuring I can stay in my cushy spot and exit without worrying about returning the books and not confronting the world outside of my book’s universe!

Minimal, sleek and futuristic, AROUND B is one good looking robot. The various curves and lines on it create a unique aesthetic and to be honest, it almost looks friendly! I guess browsing through a bookstore has never been smoother.

The Dual Mixer is here to save time, water and t-shirts!

Have you ever looked up a smoothie recipe online that claim they are ready in 2 minutes? It goes like – step 1: put ingredients in mixer and step 2: blend. What they forget is washing every ingredient before popping it in the blender which adds at least another 10 minutes. Our prayers have been answered and soon we will truly be able to make a smoothie in 2 minutes with this efficient dual mixer!

This ingenious product design not only saves time but also saves water with its ability to wash the ingredients before blending in the same container. Our human nature doesn’t allow us to stand over the sink for more than a minute and there is a good chance that the chemicals on our produce stick around. The Dual Mixer’s concept is inspired by the rotation method of the washing machine, both devices have the torque movements at their core. “Rotational power is running on the main unit as a conventional blender, the functionality enabled by dividing up and down makes it possible to turn the barrel upside down like an hourglass,” say the creators.

It is sustainable and stylish – a sturdy structure made with glass, rubber grips, brass thread inserts, and a steel-reinforced coupler. It also includes a pulsator and a cutting blade in its stainless steel body which makes it all the more durable. So, say hello to Clark Kent of devices, here to rescue the Louis Lanes of smoothies (and wet shirts that are casualties of rinsing over the sink) as it is literally saving your time, water and health!

The washing/sharing machine

quinque_washing_machine_1

As a bachelor, I can attest that the washing machine is like a kingdom tht needs to be annexed. If one person has the kingdom, the power is completely in their hands. My flatmate has a tendency of taking roughly 24 hours for an otherwise 2 hour wash. He leaves his clothes in the tub for ages before actually putting them on the clothesline to dry. For people with such etiquette, or the lack of it, the Quinque stands out as a washing machine built for people who share a roof.

The Quinque works on a unique concept of having two chambers. A wash chamber, and a storage chamber (divided into 5 separate compartments). The person using the machine just has to place their clothes inside the washing tub, and Quinque performs the necessary wash cycle on it. Once the clothes are washed, they enter a compartment in the storage chamber, where they are kept until they are collected by their respective owner. The storage chamber can be used by multiple people, and people can pre-plan their washes by just placing the load inan empty compartment. The washing machine then will wash and re-store the clothes based on your wash plan. You can create a customize-able wash plan with your fellow flatmates, setting your own start and end times, and the machine will do the rest.

The design of the machine is undoubtedly unique, bordering on iconic. Being a wall mounted design, the machine is perfectly circular. The circular front door/panel and even the circular ring display around the glass complement each other, creating what is easily a fresh, clean, and balanced design built around a unique and (speaking as a bachelor) brilliant concept.

An oven that plays Hide and Sleek

curious_edge_oven_1

It escapes me why consumer tech giants and interior design agencies have never collaborated to design something that can do wonders for both parties. Now look at the Samsung Smart Oven, its clean design is a departure from its otherwise cluttered visual language. Designed by Kyumin Ha, this project aims at integrating the modern, Scandinavian design aesthetic of Italian interior design company Boffi, along with the smart interaction of Samsung’s consumer appliance department. It’s amazing how combining the best of these two vastly different worlds can result in an oven design so seamless, it makes you wonder what else can be made possible through a collaborative design approach!

Travol in style

TRAVOLER-비핸스-2

Remember that Audi bicycle that was in the works? Designer Kyumin Ha just one-upped that with the Audi Travoler (Travel + Roller). The Travoler is a scooter, but not the Vespa kind. The kind you had as a kid. Imagine that scooter grew up with you, and became an advanced automobile with each passing year. That’s what the Travoler is. Absolutely uncompromising on sleekness, this shiny vehicle comes built with a motor, a camera, intuitive handlebar controls, and a rear hubless wheel, because why not!

The Travoler is capable of being disassembled and reassembled with absolute ease. The handlebars have their respective functions, the right accelerates, the left brakes. A frontal identity light not only puts the sweet Audi mark on your ride, but also illuminates a portion of the road ahead of you. Leaving the biggest upgrade for the last, the Travoler sports a front facing video camera between the handlebars. Perfect for recording your riding experiences, because hey…the Travoler clearly isn’t for the boring kind!

Mini Washer for Microliving

miniwash_01

Bachelors, this washing machine is for you! Okay, all my single ladies too. The Mini Washing Machine is exactly as it sounds. Mini! Despite its diminutive size, it packs a powerful punch to small loads of dirty laundry. The magic lies in its upright form that gives it a small footprint. Perfect for small spaces, users can permanently place it in almost any room without it taking up too much space, or simply store it until it’s needed!

Slam-sung!

samsung_smart_docking_tv_1

You remember Samsung’s Serif TV? What a design nightmare that was, eh? (Yes, I really found it hideous.) Luckily not all of Samsung’s TVs will look like that. This Smart Docking TV design for Samsung really pushes design in the right direction. Not just another good looking TV, the new design debunks the whole “wedge design” trend and takes the opposite road to make a TV that looks like it could seriously kick ass. The new design has a valley running around the rim of the TV, this not only enables easy docking of your smart-device, but also acts as a complete end to end speaker design, giving the TV some serious Audio cred!

Another sensibly brilliant direction was to reveal all ports by keeping them on the front. USB, HDMI, RC, and a few other ports are all front facing, celebrating connectivity, rather than shrouding it. Isn’t that just brilliant?!

Clean – Blend – Clean

The Dual Mixer is a Blender that can sanitize all ingredients to be blended thoroughly, before you mix them up. The cleaning process begins inside the blender itself and the system takes care to wash off dirt, grime and microbes, using torque pressure to do the job. An interesting aspect for us to look into, what do you think?

Cleaning By Deception

The Dustrap is based on the design of the age-old fish trap, where a wide, open mouth lures in the fish and entraps it. Similarly, the wide mouth sucks in the dirt, bacteria and other yucky goop, and keeping it contained till you need to dispose it. Let’s call it the new-age dust buster!
