Road-Haus is a 250sqf tiny cabin scaled down from a larger model designed by Wheelhaus, a tiny home company committed to modular and eco-friendly design practices.

Set on providing the kind of experience he had growing up in log cabins constructed by his father, ​​Jamie McKay developed Wheelhaus. More than a company that designs tiny homes, Wheelhaus remains committed to building modular log cabins with small carbon footprints that offer travelers and residents a true escape into the woods.

Wheelhaus’s current catalog offers nine different log cabin models available in an array of different sizes. The smallest, Road-Haus is a 250sqf adaptation of the company’s most popular tiny cabin that comes with all the perks of the larger Wedge model, without the unneeded space.

Taking the best from the more spacious Wedge model, the Road-Haus fuses elegant design elements with tiny living essentials. Considered crowd favorites by the tiny home company, Wheelhaus adorned Road-Haus with the same pitched roofline and wrap-around clerestory windows found on the Wedge model. From the bottom to the top, Road-Haus residents are immersed in the glory of the woods, with timber flooring that’s mirrored on the tiny home’s ceiling.

Halved by an optic-white-painted chunk that extends from the living room into the kitchen, all the way to the bedroom. Pools of natural light that pour in from the home’s glazed floor-to-ceiling windows dance with the white paint and help brighten the home’s interiors. Following a horizontal floor plan, residents are greeted by the living room from the home’s back deck entrance.

Walking in from the outdoor deck, complete with a protective overhang, residents will find the main bedroom on the opposite end of the home, with the kitchen and bathroom dividing the two living spaces. In the living room, residents can enjoy television or even a fireplace from the full-sized sofa that could double as sleeping arrangements. Then, the full kitchen is complete with lots of storage space and all the amenities of a traditional and modern kitchen.

Iniö is a prefabricated log home from Pluspuu designed for a Switzerland-based Finnish couple who’d like a holiday retreat in their hometown of Heinola.

Pluspuu knows log cabins better than we do. Based in Helsinki, the prefabricated log cabin design company constructs high-quality log houses and cabins alongside Pirkanmaa-based Ollikaisen Hirsirakenne Oy, a family-run cabin construction company with over 40 years’ worth of experience. For a Finnish couple who relocated to Switzerland, Pluspuu’s prefabricated Iniö log house came as the ideal home for holiday retreats in their hometown of Heinola.

Pluspuu currently keeps a catalog of twelve prefabricated log houses. Out of the twelve, the couple settled on Iniö for its rustic personality that’s interwoven with distinct modern touches like expansive floor-to-ceiling windows and a bright, unstained wooden interior. Iniö comes as a two-level, three-bedroom log house stationed behind lofty eaves that create plenty of overhang for the home’s wraparound patio.

Merging the overhang with the home’s front facade, 20-foot, floor-to-ceiling windows dissolve the barrier between the interior living space and outdoor seasons. Noting the proximity of the outdoors via the home’s expansive windows, Elina, one of Iniö’s residents, says, “[The] windows on three sides of the living room make it feel as though you are outside—you can experience all four seasons very intimately.”

As part of Pluspuu’s appeal, the company’s cabins come prefabricated. However, clients can customize each cabin’s finer details to suit their own needs and taste. Outfitting their log house with a unique ceiling specific to Finland, the couple asked Pluspuu and Ollikaisen Hirsirakenne Oy to incorporate a rimakatto ceiling, paneling the interior’s ceiling with lathe battens to give the home a softer look and sharper acoustics.

Outside, the log house is fortified by column-and-beam, non-settling log beams and cross-laminated timber boards. Built to withstand all four seasons, Iniö is insulated from the inside, out with eight-inch-thick spruce logs and wood fiber that help neutralize indoor temperatures and humidity levels. Residents can rest easy, assured that geothermal heating and triple-glazed windows doubly provide proper insulation.

Beyond Iniö, beside the nearby lake, a 10-person hot tub and sauna provide a warm sanctuary during colder seasons.

This tiny pod merges a sauna with an infrared design to become the world’s first climate cabin!

Recognized by German Design Awards, Klimakabine is the world’s first climate-controlled micro-cabin built from OSB and stone pine with a loam and moss filter for cozy vibes and fresh air.

It’s hard to imagine being somewhere more calming than a log cabin in the woods–the snow falling outside while you’re warm and cozied up against the window. There’s something about the warmth of wood that brings peace. Similar to log cabins, the wooden build of saunas not only enhances their function but relaxes the mind too. Combining the coziness of a log cabin with the soothing nature of saunas, Italian carpentry company Declara designed Klimakabine, the world’s first climate-controlled micro-cabin.

Paneled in OSB, Klimakabine features a single wooden bench and is constructed from stone pine, a type of antibacterial wood. The build of Klimakabine resembles a sitting pod from the outside and keeps a sloping structure that encourages users to sit back and recline. Sloping in tandem with the glazed door opening, a loam and moss filter helps clean the air inside Klimakabine and regulates the climate to ensure a comfortable sitting period. Enhancing the soothing nature of Klimakabine, Declara glazed the front door to give it a translucent look that provides some privacy for the one sitting inside too.

Coming back to nature has always brought some peace and calm. Declara built Klimakabine so we’d always have space and time to welcome nature back into our lives. In designing Klimakabine, Declara artfully merged the coziness of a log cabin with the relaxation of a sauna to create a meditative space where users can unwind and disconnect from the busyness of the outside world.

The Nook is a tiny cabin located in the woods of North Carolina’s Appalachia designed with Scandinavian, Japanese, and Appalachian handcrafted elements to weave local craftwork together with a personal history.

As summer draws to a close, winter is coming and so are the snowy getaways. While there’s something to be said about the slow summer days spent at a family cabin by the lake, cozying up beside a fireplace inside a log cabin somewhere in the woods where there’s snow and a hot cup of tea is still unmatched. In the Appalachian forest of Swannanoa, North Carolina, Mike Belleme, an established documentary photographer, felt inspired to devise his own wintry tiny cabin called The Nook.

Brimming with artisanal goods and artwork of local craftsmen and artists, The Nook was designed to bring the handcrafted touch of the old world into the modern era. Described as a “collection of stories,” Belleme designed The Nook to link his personal history to the surrounding forest and architecture of the cabin.

The tiny cabin is constructed from a collection of locally felled trees that Belleme memorized during a five-year stint spent in the Appalachian woods, during which he learned primitive building skills like creating a path of hand-split logs that leads to The Nook’s front entrance.

The timber that gives rise to The Nook varies between white oak, red oak, black walnut, and black locust all to mirror the trees that surround the tiny cabin. The different gradients of woodwork distinguish the rooms of the cabin. Contained within a mere 400-square-meters, The Nook’s living areas are combined into one and present as a single open volume, with the different rooms demarcated by shifting shades of timber. Where the living room expresses dynamic energy with lofty ceilings and cherry wood paneling, the kitchen keeps a more subdued profile achieved with an intimate breakfast nook wainscot in black walnut.

Striking a balance between different interior design cues and movements, Belleme describes The Nook’s design as a marriage between Japanese, Scandinavian, and Appalachian aesthetics. Just above the stripped-back kitchen, Belleme included a Japanese-inspired tea loft in tribute to his parents’ own living period in Japan, who moved on to launch one of America’s first Miso companies.

Every element of the home embodies a sense of minimalism, craftwork, and earthiness, weaving together Belleme’s personal history that brought him from the tea rooms of Japan to the felled trees of North Carolina. Describing the tiny cabin in his own words, Belleme notes on The Nook’s Airbnb listing, “This house is a collection of stories. Stories of cultural and personal history, ecology, and craft. To celebrate this area’s incredible legacy of craft, we’ve collaborated with some of the most talented makers in the region.”
