Sculpted BB-8/Hulkbuster Mashup Figure: The Sithbuster

Let’s face it, with Disney owning both properties now, Star Wars and Marvel are practically begging for a crossover. And to give us an idea of what that probably wouldn’t look like, artist Adam of the YouTube channel North of the Border sculpted this 1:12 scale BB-8/Hulkbuster armor mashup. Sith and Hulk alike, beware!

I particularly like the BB-8 inspired paint job. The amount of fine detail Adam was able to achieve is most impressive, and I wouldn’t be the least bit surprised if he could thread a needle on his first try. For reference, I struggle to thread a needle for my grandma at all until she eventually tells me not to bother – she’ll just get one of her favorite grandchildren to do it for her.

Now that I’ve planted the seed of a Star Wars/Marvel crossover in my own mind, it won’t stop growing. Will I start writing my own fan fiction?! No, but only because I’m too lazy. I will, however, start creating my own fan fiction in my mind, which takes significantly less effort than writing and can be done in the bathtub.

This conceptual Dyson racecar is a 3D mashup of its most famous products!

I mean, this Dyson car isn’t intended for the road, but if it were, it would surely ‘blow’ its competitors away! Now that I got that joke out of my system, let me present to you the Dyson EV, by Graham Hutchings. Designed as a fun exercise, Hutchings took Dyson’s brand and products and rather than using them as inspiration, turned them into building blocks. What you’re seeing is an EV that was literally put together as a 3D collage of Dyson’s famous products, all of which are pretty distinguishable if you take a closer look!

The car comes with wheels that borrow directly from Dyson’s ball vacuum, as well as a multi-cylinder rear exhaust that’s a standard element in Dyson’s vacuum line too. Move over to the front and the car comes with an engine-cooling air-intake inspired by Dyson’s Airblade hand-blower, and if you look at its headlights with a keen eye, you may just see the iconic shapes of the Bladeless fan too. The car employs Dyson’s signature color combinations too, and my favorite detail on the vehicle by far has to be those Supersonic hair-dryer-inspired rear-view mirrors! Pretty neat, eh??

Thomas the Tank Engine Meets HAL 9000: TMS 9000

If you’ve seen 2001: A Space Odyssey, you know how intimidating that the HAL 9000 computer can be. As he loses his digital mind, the stubborn computer takes over the ship and becomes a murderer. Peering out from its singular red eyeball, HAL will kill you with his blank stare and monotone voice. The only thing more terrifying would be if HAL 9000 had the face of Thomas the Tank Engine… so here you go.

In this era of hacks and mashups, it was only a matter of time before somebody combined this unlikely duo. Japanese maker Furisuku P combined parts from a HAL 9000 replica with a Thomas the Tank Engine candy container, and then rigged it up to emit steam from its engine. The TMS 9000 also doubles as an Amazon Alexa speaker, and has glowing red eyeballs.  Check out this monstrosity:

It’s especially creepy as it breaks into a rendition of “Daisy Bell,” the song that HAL 9000 sang as he went to sleep forever. I also found out today that this was the first song that a real computer ever sang – so you learn something new every day.

What if two car companies merged their design styles?

auto_mashups_1

We’ve looked at a lot of design-semantic switches where we imagine one company designing a product out of their usual catalog (but with their design style)… cases in point, a lot of PDF Haus’s work.

Today we look at a design-language-fusion, if you will. Created by rendering firm NeoMam Studios, this series looks at cars that are a result of two companies coming together to fuse their styles. You’ve got a BMW + Lamborghini mashup right above that combines the Italian supercar manufacturer’s edgy style and signature yellow body-color with BMW’s signature kidney grille. At the end of the day, the car’s still a stunner!

Scroll down below and you’ll see, in order, a Bentley + Ferrari mashup that combines British class ant Italian fervor and passion. Followed by a Nissan + Porsche harmony that would truly be a feat of engineering. Next, we have a Volkswagen + Ford mashup that combines the strategic sensibility found in both companies. Following that is a strange combination of David and Goliath, Smart and Range Rover. This alliance gives smart-cars their much-needed rugged makeover, allowing them to look less puny and more dominating on the asphalt. Lastly, and a personal favorite is the combination of two classic American Muscle brands, Dodge and Chevrolet. Looking like a Charger and a Camaro had a beautiful love-child, the car is quite literally the ultimate mash-up automobile!

Learjet Limousine for Grounded Jet-setters

Look what we’ve got here. Is it a new stretched-out flying car? Nope. What you see is a real aircraft fuselage which has now been grounded. It’s part jet, part automobile, all plaything for the wealthy. This crazy stretch limousine was made from an actual Learjet. It goes by the name of Limo-Jet.

Since it was built on the long, narrow fuselage of an airplane, it had to use an open wheel design, which together with the vertical tail, makes it looks like the ultimate land speed contender. We don’t have much info about what is under the hood, but we do know that it is driven by a small block GM Vortec V8 engine, and its jets sadly no longer work.

The fuselage needed to be reinforced with steel and a steel chassis was added to make it roadworthy. It also needed a custom suspension and electrical system.

Instead of jets, the engine cowls have LED lights and speakers inside. Yep, this is a party in a plane that flies across the ground. The cabin is also all lit up for a party. It may not be capable of delivering a sonic boom in the skies above, but your party will supply the noise on the road. If you’re lucky, maybe you’ll see this party plane on the road passing you by one day.

Fan Recreates Dark Souls in LEGO Worlds

Over the years, the Dark Souls franchise has gained a pretty big following. One Dark Souls fan is obsessed enough that he has recreated Firelink Shrine as a scene within LEGO Worlds. Yes, it is as awesome as it sounds. If you’ve never played LEGO Worlds, it’s a big building game where you play with and collect digital bricks, and more.

MythicMarty says that the geometry and combat were within the capabilities of LEGO Worlds, but the user interface and sound effects were overlaid on the video in After Effects. I really love what he has done here and I would love to play this game. This is just so well done. All of the details here are just awesome.

Can you please make this happen LEGO? I just never realized how cute the Dark Souls world would be in LEGO form. This must have taken a long time to make. Well, if I can’t play the game, at least I can enjoy this awesome video.
