This electric aircraft concept uses stratospheric air-friction as a power source!

If you’ve ever seen a jet blaze through the sky leaving a perfect line of smoke behind it, you’ve probably wondered why that smoke holds its shape so perfectly for so long, but doesn’t hold true on land when a motorbike or car zooms down the road. Air movement anywhere above the troposphere (the lowest region of our atmosphere) is extremely negligible. Jets, which fly in the stratosphere, leave behind that trail of smoke because the air there doesn’t move to disrupt the smoke trails. This also means that there’s immense amounts of friction when a jet travels at high speeds, cutting through the motionless air particles. Designer Michal Bonikowski believes that friction could actually be a source of clean energy that a plane could harness to reduce its carbon footprint.

The Eather One looks like any other airplane, except for the presence of triboelectric nanogenerators on its wings and top. These generators, as a simple Google search told me, harness external mechanical energy, converting it into electrical energy… sort of like a solar panel, but for movement. When the Eather One cuts through the air, the sheer turbulence of driving through our atmosphere generates friction as well as vibrations, which the nanogenerators capture efficiently, converting them into energy that the plane could store in its battery and use in flight. This does two rather important things. By virtue of being an electric aircraft, the Eather One becomes MUCH greener in comparison to regular aircrafts which run on high-octane aerospace fuel… and it also means the aircraft harnesses clean, renewable energy AS it travels, making it even MORE carbon-efficient!

What would a state-of-the-art, electric snow-mobile look like?

A closed snow-mobile seems like the most natural way a snow-mobile should be built. Designer Michal Bonikowski believes so too. After all, if your objective is to enjoy the snowy landscapes, being enclosed in a warm, protected cabin would be the best way to effectively enjoy the harsh, cold outdoors.

Bonikowski teased a closed-cockpit snow-mobile concept way back in 2012, and to his surprise, it was received with a lot of positivity. Building on that response, Bonikowski created the Snow Crawler, a snow-mobile with a fully electric drivetrain and a closed cockpit. It comes with treads on the back, and skis on the front that Bonikowski says can be detached and replaced with wheels, allowing the crawler to drive on terrain too.

The Snow Crawler 2.0 is a lean, mean, snow-machine. Its chassis and form is much narrower and longer than most traditional automobiles, but it gives the crawler a distinct characteristic. With menacing looking headlights, the crawler can easily be operated at night too, and comes with a steering wheel, rather than handlebars, like traditional snow-mobiles do. The Snow Crawler 2.0’s body also comes with a solar-panel roof, making it probably the only snow-mobile design to explore a completely electric, solar-powered direction. I quite like this direction, if I’m being honest!

Beasty Beauty In The Snow

Its peak summer in some countries so hopefully Michal Bonikowski’s Snowmobile concept will bring you some respite! In any case it’s awesome to see some diverse talents in Michal, who is famous for his Facebook Phones on YD. The mission with this snowmobile is pure personal pleasure; something that is a perfect marriage of excellent handling, all-terrain-vehicle and a closed cabin for the driver.

Sporting an efficient electric drive it will easily take us up the slope (even the ones hardly accessible) or to work by a snowy road forgotten by civilization.

BlackBerry with Windows?

How comfortable will you be with a Windows backed BlackBerry? Nothing is too radical these days and when foes become friends, the new relationship blossoms into something big and spectacular. Concept Smartphone pro Michal Bonikowski sent us his thoughts on a BlackBerry Smartphone hosting Microsoft’s Windows Phone 8 platform. The design not only simplifies the BB but also makes it a more fluid interface with Windows. I like the approach but I don’t think this partnership is ever going to happen, but then, you never know!

Facebook Phone Part 3

The first Facebook Phone opened up a whole lot of questions and the primary one was, why the hell is it blue! To set the record straight and to give the concept a new lease of life, Michal revisited the design with an HTC approach. Like it better? Yeah, I do; how about you?

OMG! I Love the Blue Facebook Phone!

Thank god I didn’t invest in the Facebook IPO. I’d much rather bet my money on a Bluephone….the Facebook! It looks interesting and boasts drool-worthy features. The sleek blue case is fashioned out of metal and it sports a 4.2-inch screen. The front hosts 5 – megapixel camera and an 8 – megapixel camera adorns the back. It juices up via induction charging using a dedicated dock. Of course all this is in the designer’s imagination, but who am I to complain! I can only imagine the customized hotkeys and impending chaos it will create in my online life. Yes, I await the FB Phone with eager enthusiasm!
