World’s Smallest Electronic Baseball Game

electronic baseball
Remember playing that electronic baseball game as kid? The “ball” was a tiny light up dot that moved along the screen. The players were tiny light up dots. Everything was tiny lights. It was simple to learn, difficult to master. That’s actually the hallmark of a good game- all the classics have a short learning curve but are hard to become great at- think Pac-Man, Space Invaders, even modern games like Angry Birds. It was everything like baseball and nothing like baseball. Just tiny lights.

Back then handheld meant something the size of a small paperback novel (remember books? that’s a whole different post I guess) and a bunch of AAA batteries or a 9 volt or two. Now thanks to the wonders of technology they’ve miniaturized the classics. This electronic baseball game is a faithful reproduction of the original but shrunken down to keychain size. Like the original it’s made by Mattel. And yes, it really works.

Namco Arcade Machine Collection Gives Action Figures Something to Play

The NAMCO Arcade Machine Collection are miniature replicas of some of your favorite arcade games from way back when. While they’re no playable, you could still use them to create your own mini arcade hall right on your desktop.

namco_arcade_1

Each is a 1/12-scale reproduction that uses the original schematics and cabinet artwork of the original machines. Everything is recreated in stunning detail, from the controls and the screen to the coin slot and the individual art pieces. They look like machine-accurate replicas to me, and I don’t even care if they got some details wrong or not.
I need these.

Only five titles are available right now: Pac Man, Tank Battalion, Galaga, Galaxian, and Rally-X. I’m hopeful more will be added soon.

Minimaterials: Like Real Building Materials, Only Mini

mini_blocks_and_mortar_1

Maybe you sometimes fantasize about how cool it would be to play around with bricks, and cinder blocks, and mortar, and just build shit. But then reality sinks in and you see how impractical it would be; what would you even do with the stuff you build? It’s not like you’re ready to commit to making an actual structure… Well, that’s where Minimaterials comes in. They make miniature versions of the big boy materials you can’t play with. Yes, real concrete cinder blocks, real mortar, real wooden pallets. The cinder blocks, for instance, measure 1.3″ x .66″ x .66″, and a 24-pack that comes on a wooden pallet costs all of $15. They even have Jersey Barriers and red bricks for your mini construction needs.

Tiny Sushi Being Prepared Is So Cute It Will Affect You Deeply

If you like tiny things, you’re going to love this video of tiny sushi being prepared. As it turns out, I am not physically or emotionally equipped to handle such things so if you don’t mind me, I’m going to go lie down. Possibly for forever.

Retired Spanish Naval Mechanic Builds World’s Smallest W32 Engine

patelo-W32-engine

You’re looking at a fully functional, though air-powered, W32 engine. Yes, that’s 32 cylinders, 32 pistons, and who knows how many valves, springs and assorted pieces. Actually, we do know: it’s made up of 850 pieces, 632 screws/bolts, and took 2,520 hours to complete. Made by one José Manuel Hermo Barreiro (also known as Patelo), a retired Spanish naval mechanic known for his miniatures, the engine appears to measure less than 1ft. in length. When the power source is turned on, it’s a marvel to watch everything move in unison. His craftsmanship is so precise that even when the engine is running, the vibrations are kept to a minimum and it’s possible to balance some coins on it. Jose machined all the parts himself, and you should totally watch the below video to get a sense of the complexity involved.

Tiny Breakfast Cooked With Tiny Utensils In A Tiny Kitchen

This is a video of Youtuber AAAjoken cooking a tiny breakfast using tiny utensils in a tiny kitchen. Retro Arcade Watch: It’s Pew O’Clock

arcade wrist watch Retro Arcade Watch: Its Pew OClock
You can’t take it with you- wait- actually you can. The Classic Arcade Wristwatch Retro Arcade Watch: Its Pew OClock is like having a miniature arcade cabinet right on your wrist. It doesn’t actually play the game of “Galactic Defense” but nobody has to know that because when you press the button it makes the appropriate “pew pew” sound. It also, like all good watches, tells the time:

Those space rocks are the hour and minute hands while the spaceship is the second hand. Besides just making arcade game sounds, the button also makes the watch light up. The joystick does nothing but it looks good. Walk around like you’re the geek version of the Jolly Green Giant (fun fact: he is actually known for strapping arcade games to his wrist in his off hours). Pew pew.

Foldable.me Review: Make a Mini-Me of You

foldable jeff Foldable.me Review: Make a Mini Me of You
Have you ever wanted a miniature boxy version of yourself to help around the house? Well now you can have one. Although the “helping” part is more of a supervisory role while you do all the work. With Foldable.me you can make your own cardboard you. Or anyone else. The Foldable folks sent us a code to try it out. First step was to go to their site and set it up. It’s actually a lot of fun:

You select the hair, skin tone, nose, eyes, mouth, glasses, facial hair, clothing- everything you need to make a mini-you. It helps to have a mirror or a picture of yourself. No worries if you’re skinny or fat- every Foldable you is the same size- boxy with a big head. After finishing and checking out, in a short time later you get a solid cardboard you in the mail (they ship from the UK, so allow some extra time if you’re in the US).

It was shipped in a cardboard lined envelope to protect it. The great thing is that to put it together takes just a few minutes and you don’t need any scissors or glue! All the pieces easily punch out and it’s simple to fold your little box man together. The cardboard is kinda of semi-glossy I’d say- and fairly sturdy. The finished mini-you will be about 3.5″ tall.

Another cool thing is that you don’t have to make you- you can make friends, family, enemies, co-workers, even celebrities. Why that’s me and Jerry Garcia hanging out above. Happy Birthday today, Foldable Jerry. Even though my Foldable me won’t really help out around the house (other than “supervising”), I still think he’s great. And my kids listen to him more than me. Get your own at Foldable.me.
