Terrifying ‘Realistic’ LEGO Minifig: Everything Is Not Awesome

Because a pleasant night’s sleep void of nightmares is overrated, model builder and YouTuber North of the Border went and crafted this ‘realistic’ LEGO minifig, complete with a terrifying face and unholy finger and toenails. I think it goes without saying, but my wife is going to be annoyed that I insist on sleeping with the lights on tonight.

Those eyes. That mouth. Those nails! Nothing about this is okay, and I really wish North of the Border would have reconsidered the project before going through with it, and that the website I saw it at reconsidered before posting it. Yet here we are. I don’t like it here.

Well, at least it doesn’t move. At least there’s that. And don’t let that give you any new project ideas! Good lord – could you imagine this little creeper crawling out of your toy chest and sprinting across the room to the foot of your bed right when you’re about to turn the lights off for the night? Sweet dreams!

Display Your LEGO Minifigs in a Giant Minifig

Do you or your kids like to collect LEGO minifigures? You could leave them scattered around the room where you could step on one, or the dog could try to eat them, or you could store and display them in a more appropriate place. This oversize wood minifig display is perfect for organizing and showing off your favorite LEGO figures.

The $36 wall display is made by Alabama Etsy shop JEMWorXCo using premium 1/2″ baltic birch wood and holds up to 19 figures. Each of its little cutouts is just the right size to hold a minifig along with accessories like their tiny hats, though I’m guessing the sombrero on my Mariachi Maraca Man Minifigure won’t fit.

The only thing better would be if they made a huge version that held the 200+ minifigs I have littering my basement, but I guess I could just buy a dozen of these, and that would look pretty awesome too.

Knock-off Baby Yoda Minifigure Even Has His Space Bassinet

Baby Yoda (aka “The Child”) is arguably the most adorable character in the history of Star Wars. We love his expressions, his curiosity, and the fact that he also has badass Jedi powers. LEGO has their own official Baby Yoda minifig in the works, but the only way to get one initially will be with the $129 Razor Crest model, and even then you’ll have to wait until September to get one.

For now, we have to settle for some cheap Chinese knock-offs.

I spotted this little green guy over on AliExpress, and he actually looks quite good. He’s got those adorable eyes, furrowed brows, and wide ears, and hangs out in his bassinet, just like on The Mandalorian. The miniature figure appears to have LEGO-compatible studs, and can be removed from his floating bed.

If you don’t mind the wrath of both Disney and LEGO’s lawyers coming to knock on your door, you can order one of these little guys over on AliExpress for under $2.

LEGO Minifig Battle Machine Concept: Mechafig

There are few things more recognizable in the world of toys than a classic LEGO minifig. Sure, we’ve seen them dressed up in all kinds of costumes and color schemes, but at the end of the day, a minifig is a minifig. Though I’ve never seen a minifig like this.

This awesome minifig battle machine concept design comes courtesy of LEGO Ideas contributor Jinhwi Kim, who decided it was time for a new look for the classic red, blue, and yellow minifig. This mech-style figure towers over other minifigs, and features things like giant articulated claws for hands, shoulder-mounted missile launchers, and a cockpit inside its head for a minifig to sit inside of. In other words, it’s simply awesome.

If you’d like to see the minifig battle machine become an actual LEGO kit, show your support by casting a vote at LEGO Ideas today. It takes just a minute of your time, and it’ll help get this amazing idea into production.

Low Poly Papercraft LEGO Figures Stand 35″ Tall: Not So Mini Figs

Do you love LEGO as much as I do? Here’s a fun way to add a little extra LEGO to your life, and without using a single brick. These fun papercraft models let you add some giant minifigs (is that an oxymoron?) to your collection.

The guys over at EBURgami offer up design templates which let you build your own XXLfigs using paper, scissors, a knife, and some white glue. The results are some really cool oversize figures which will look great standing in the corner of your room.

The finished models measure in at 85 cm (~35″) tall, making them about 23 times the size of an actual minifig, which typically stands just 1.5″ tall. EBURgami says it should take about 7 hours to assemble one of the figures – assuming you’re handy with scissors and blade.

If you’re up to the challenge, the XXLfig template is about $15 over on Etsy. While you’re there, be sure to check out all of the other awesome papercraft designs available in the EBURgami shop.

7″ Tall LEGO Minifigs: Maxifigs

There aren’t many toys that are more recognizable and iconic than LEGO bricks and minifigs. While I’ve always wanted to make a giant minifig from LEGO bricks, I rather like this shortcut – a jumbo-sized minifig you can buy already made for your desktop or bookshelf.

ML ARTS Vinyl Graphics & Designs makes these awesome 3D-printed oversize minifigs in a variety of styles. Each one measures 7″ tall, making them about 4.67 times the size of a conventional minifig. Apparently, they can be printed in custom sizes as well, though I’m not sure how much larger they can be made. I wouldn’t mind a 6-foot-tall minifig if they could figure out how to print one.

They’re currently available in Darth Vader, Stormtrooper, Batman, Joker, Zombie, Rebel Fighter, Stig, and Punk Rocker designs, but I’m kind of partial to the plain old minifig.

The 7″ minifigs sell for $30(USD) each over on Etsy.

This LEGO Shopping Bag Makes Your Hands Look Like Minifig Hands

If you are a real LEGO fanatic, you have probably wondered at some point, what you would look like as a minifig. Well, you may not be able to transform yourself into a plastic figure, but this shopping bag will transform your hands into LEGO hands in an instant.

Evan Choi and Junho Lee are design students at the School of Visual Arts in New York City and they came up with this awesomely geeky bag with clever handles that temporarily disguise your human hands as LEGO hands.

This bag will not only make its user smile, but also everyone who sees them and their LEGO hands. LEGO needs to start using these bags in their stores.

LEGO Minifig Hair Bicycle Helmet: Hair It Is

Forget riding your bike and having your hair fly in the wind. You are going to look much cooler wearing this LEGO minifig hair helmet. It was created by European creative agency DDB to get kids “excited about bicycle safety.” I’m not sure about it’s effectiveness, but probably will make them more excited to play with LEGO bricks.

The bad news is that it doesn’t actually exist, so if you have dreamed of wearing toy hair, sorry to dash your dreams. The good news for one man is that he already has this hair. That would be Justin Bieber.

Now it is only a matter of time before someone makes this a reality. Get on that, Internet.

LEGO Kylo Ren Has a Sweet Bedroom

I was watching the odd flick Midnight Special last night with my daughter and she recognized Adam Driver as “That dude from Star Wars.” Shortly after that she also pointed out he was tall, as in the tallest person in the scene with all the military in the room. She says, “He’s the tallest guy in the room. Well that’s embarrassing.” I had no idea how tall Kylo Ren was. After seeing Ren in a different flick last night, I ran across this LEGO version of Kylo Ren hanging out in his room.

I bet this is exactly what his room looks like somewhere deep inside the belly of that massive star destroyer he flies around in. His room is decorated up in Darth Vader stuff, which is to be expected. He would totally have Vader’s melted mask in there too I think. It also looks like he’s go at red Luxo, Jr. hanging out in there, which makes you wonder if a Pixar / Star Wars crossover is in our future.

I keep wondering if no one told Kylo that grandpa realized at the end that the Dark Side was bad.

Custom LEGO Minifigs Get You aHEAD

I’ve seen some crazy LEGO stuff over the years, from artists creating portraits using nothing but bricks, to epic life-size builds. I lack any of the skills needed to make anything resembling a self-portrait in LEGO. If you are the same way, you can still have a LEGO version of yourself – in minifig form.

For about $30, a company on Etsy called Funky 3D Faces will take your likeness from two photos and 3D print it somewhat convincingly into a sandstone material. The head is sized perfectly and has a hole in the bottom to snap onto a minifig.

It takes about five days to make one. I need one of these so I can say that I’ve actually driven a Ferrari, albeit a blocky totally un-Ferrari looking mess I made with random colored bricks. I shall call him Blocky-me.
