PinSwitch Turns Your Nintendo Switch into a Tiny Pinball Machine

One of the many things that’s cool about the Nintendo Switch is how people are coming up with creative ways to dock the handheld. Most of the docks I’ve seen keep the screen hidden. In this case, the dock turns the Switch into a tiny pinball machine instead.

Created by Sakura RetroModding, the PinSwitch is a miniature replica of a pinball machine, where the screen of your Switch becomes the playfield.  It works in concert with the Zen Pinball game Pinball FX3, and has real arcade style flipper buttons, a launcher button, and a mini joystick for nudging. The tiny cabinet is made using 3D printed PLA, and covered with colorful decals with fun Nintendo art on them. It connects via the Switch’s USB-C port for zero-latency control, and holds the bezel in front of the handheld with mini neodymium magnets.

Check it out in action, and see how to set up the PinSwitch in the videos below.

Unfortunately, it doesn’t appear to provide a passthrough charging port, so you’ll be running entirely on battery power, but otherwise this looks like a really nifty accessory for pinball fans. If you’re interested, you can pre-order yours on Etsy for about $222. If you don’t want to spend that much, they’re also making a version without the backbox section and graphics for about $116. They’re expected to start shipping around the end of the month.

WCW’s Nintendo 64 legacy lives again, in mod form

Growing up, my friends and I were obsessed with Nintendo 64 wrestling games. That was all thanks to THQ, the AKI Corporation, and their AKI Engine. The AKI Engine made playing as your favorite on-screen personality simple yet refined, introducing a g...

‘Black Mesa,’ the fan-made ‘Half-Life’ remake, finally has a release date

Black Mesa has had a lengthy development journey, to say the least. In 2006, fans of Half-Life decided to port the game to the then-new Source engine (upon which Half-Life 2 was based). Valve had actually done so itself, but the results were poor. Cr...

If you're a veteran Nintendo gamer, you've likely dreamed of using a GameCube controller with the Switch -- if just to recreate that 2001 vibe of playing Super Smash Bros. Melee in the family den. For mod creator Shank, that's now a practical realit...

This portable handheld drill comes with an X and Y axis, like a milling machine!

Titled the MODS, this modular drill set is pretty neat for the reason that it’s actually a portable VMC or vertical milling center. It uses a suction system and a lightweight frame to make drilling easier and reduce the strain on your hand as you hold your drill up to the drilling surface. Suction cups allow you to adhere the MODS to practically any surface, while a smart platform aligns the bit to be perpendicular to the drilling surface. That’s all you really need from that point onward! You can easily drill evenly spaced holes in a perfect line, thanks to the MODS’ X and Y axes, without ever really worrying about alignment!

The MODS is a winner of the Red Dot Design Concept Award for the year 2019.

Furby Centipede Is the Stuff of Nightmares

Let’s face it. For as cute as Furbies were supposed to be, more often than not, they’re kind of creepy. People have done some really crazy stuff with these electronic pets over the years, from slicing in two with a waterjet, to turning them into an insane musical instrument. Now, somebody has gone and turned the Furby into a centipede.

Crafter Look_I_Made_A_Hat created this Furbish monstrosity, and it’s quite the nightmare fuel. In the Instructables post “Longify Your Furby,” the professional sushi chef, costume designer, and Furby surgeon walks us through the step-by-step process of tearing open a classic 1990s Furby, and extending its body.

It’s not exactly a simple process, and depending on the type of Furby you choose to perform this operation on, can require its body to be completely skinned and then given a new fur coat. Yeesh.

If you want to longify your own Furby, head on over to Instructables now for the comprehensive build guide. The more feet you include, the more creepy, so keep that in mind when you draw up your design.

Oh, and then there’s this…
