FineWoven is great for the environment, but the folks at The Verge have some pretty nasty stuff to say about its overall quality. It looks good for precisely a day, and then starts fraying, gathering scratches, getting dirty, and becoming quite the eyesore. FineWoven may have a lower impact on the environment on face value, but it doesn’t last as long or look as good as leather – so if you’re bummed out that Apple’s discontinued making leather cases for their iPhones, don’t worry… Mujjo hasn’t.

Mujjo is releasing these eco-friendly + luxurious iPhone 14 cases on the same day as the Apple event

On September 7th, 2022, there’s going to be an Apple event, and it’s a really exciting one since they’re launching the iPhone 14! We’re expecting to see a 6.1-inch iPhone 14, a 6.1-inch iPhone 14 Pro, a 6.7-inch iPhone 14 (Max or Plus), and a 6.7-inch iPhone 14 Pro Max. And in anticipation of the much-awaited release, Mujjo has already created a collection of luxurious cases for the iPhone 14! The cases are supposed to be the company’s most eco-friendly ones to date. And guess what? They’re set to be released on September 7th as well!

The cases are created from Ecco Leather, which is now Gold Rated by the Leather Working Group. The beautiful vegetable-tanned leather is produced in the Netherlands and provides a durable finish that will develop a patina over time, making each individual case unique. The interior of the case is lined with the finest Japanese microfibre – which is slim, lightweight, and yet extremely strong. It has a stunning satin-like finish which gives the case a really elegant and luxurious feel.

Based on customer feedback over the years, quite a few updates were made to the design as well. A raised bump around the rear camera provides great protection to the protruding lenses. The base of the iPhone is covered and protected, without obstructing the speakers or the charging port. The leather subtly rises 1mm above the edge of the glass, creating a raised bezel, which ensures abrasive surfaces are kept away from the screen.

The leather cases also feature MagSafe and are compatible with all MagSafe accessories. The side buttons have also been redesigned to encourage increased responsiveness. The range of iPhone 14 cases will be compatible with the iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Pro, iPhone 14 Max, and iPhone 14 Pro Max. It will be available in three stunning color options – Tan, Black, and Monaco Blue. The Tan is a vivid caramel, that perfectly integrates both elegance and playfulness, while the Black makes a solid and powerful statement. The Monaco Blue is a riveting shade of blue with undertones of purple and green.

Admittedly, the touchscreen glove’s biggest hurdle so far has been the presence of fingerprint sensors on phones, but our gradual and inevitable shift to facial recognition unlocking just makes the gloves an absolute no-brainer in today’s world. As much as I love the new Apple iPhone 12 going back to Apple’s roots with the MagSafe feature, there’s a slight problem with the way they implement it. The MagSafe detail on the back of the iPhone allows you to connect it to a variety of modules like cases, wallets, and chargers by simply snapping them to the back of the device. While that sounds great (and it is), it relies on a stackable system… which means if you want a case with a wallet on the back of your iPhone, you need to buy a separate case, and a separate wallet module and stack them together using the magnetic system. Now that winter’s upon us, it’s time to bust out the woolens. The cap, the hoodie, the galoshes, bomber jackets, scarves, and gloves. Winter is perhaps my favorite time of the year. I hate the cold, but I love the warm fuzzy feeling that you get from trapping body warmth between a thick blanket, or sipping on a piping hot chai. However, there’s one issue that seems to counter my love for winter. It’s the issue of the glove. I wear gloves because it’s cold… and then I promptly take them off every time I need to use my smartphone. It’s counter-productive, and honestly a drag… which is why I bought a stylus, but that’s equally painful to remember to carry… plus, I can’t pinch to zoom with a stylus. I can, however, with touchscreen-ready gloves.

A leather robe for the iPhone X

The problem with leather initially was that it was a 2 dimensional fabric. You couldn’t really wrap leather around curves without causing it to kink or fold, which meant leather cases for phones usually had just a flat piece of leather on a wooden or plastic framework. Mujjo’s proprietary technology allows for actual leather molding, making it take pretty much any shape you desire. The iPhone X cases by Mujjo are made entirely of the finest vegetable tanned leather from top to bottom, including the buttons.

If there was one thing that impressed me about Nokia’s phones, it was the ability for the touchscreen to sense your fingertips through gloves. Sadly that highly underrated and necessary feature died with the brand. However, regardless of how un-smart your smartphone’s screen is, your gloves can compensate for that, allowing you to use your phone even in the harshest weather (when you could probably need it the most!).
