The Charlie Outlet Adds 9 USB Ports to Your Wall
If there’s one thing most of us can use more of these days, it’s USB ports. After all, just about every rechargeable device made ends up connecting to a USB-powered charger. Chances are, you’ve got one or two USB chargers plugged into your outlet and that’s all you’ve got room for. With the Charlie Outlet, you can connect up to nine USB-powered devices to a single wall outlet, and charge them simultaneously.
In addition to three USB ports on each of its sides, its triangular design allows you to plug in up to three other AC-powered devices, including those big AC adapters which rarely fit into a conventional outlet without blocking the other one. The perimeter of the Charlie outlet also packs an array of LEDs, so it doubles as a nightlight as well.
The Charlie outlet is available now over on Amazon for $38, which works out to just over $4 per USB port, so if you think about it that way, it’s a total bargain!

Give Any Outlet USB Power With the SnapPower
Almost every mobile electronic device comes with its own wall outlet-to-USB box, be it Apple’s cube or any other manufacturer’s transformer. But let’s face it: you lose the things more often than you misplace your house keys. With the SnapPower, you can easily add a powered USB plug to any of your home’s outlets without having to rewire a thing. Simply unscrew your current cover plate on an existing outlet, and screw the SnapPower instead. Special prongs on the inside will make contact with the wiring screws on either side of the outlet, giving that USB port 1A of juice. The two other receptacles will keep working normally, so it’s all sort of seamless. Considering it’s $14 a pop, it’s feasible to imagine retrofitting your entire home with these at a reasonable cost.

Backpack with a 3-Pronged Outlet
Now this seems like a pretty good idea. From the “why hasn’t anyone thought of this before” department comes a Kickstarter for the GoPlug powered bag. The idea is simple- a backpack with a battery pack inside and a 3-pronged outlet to plug ANYTHING in. Other powered bags (and we reviewed a good one here) typically only have a USB plug or similar to charge your gadgets. With this bag you can plug in your laptop! That’s huge.
Great for travelers. There’s also a pair of USB ports there too. The GoPlug bag has a large capacity 15000mAh battery inside, which is good enough to charge an iPhone up fully 7 times over. The outlet swivels for maximum flexibility too. Now of course the 3rd prong is not going to be grounding your electronics like most “real” 3 prong outlets, but at least you can plug in grounded plugs. Good idea and they plan on making other types of bags with the outlet built-in should this one get fully funded on Kickstarter. (via gizmodo)

Belkin's WeMo line of connected outlets, motion sensors and wireless switches has been a solid solution for building out a (relatively basic) home-automation system on the cheap, and now there's a new product to add to the mix. The WeMo Insight Switch can turn lights and appliances on and off just like its older sibling, but this year's flavor is significantly smaller and more powerful, too.
