Parrot’s Anafi 4K drone is much more than a flying toy

Drones come in many shapes and sizes. At their most affordable, drones are fun flying toys. And for industrial uses or professional filmmakers, you've got specialist machines that can run well into tens of thousands of dollars. Parrot's new $700 Anaf...

The Parrot Anafi gives a palm-sized 4K camera the power of flight

With a footprint that’s just a tad bit bigger than the Mavic Pro, Parrot’s ANAFI is perhaps the most remarkable drone in its category. It folds down to occupy the same amount of space as a thermos flask or a portable umbrella, allowing it to seamlessly fit into backpacks, and when unfolded, the drone can capture 4K HRD footage for as long as half an hour on a full charge. ANAFI’s camera not only offers 180° of vertical rotation, it even has a 3-axis gimbal to keep all your videos beautifully stabilized. A wide-angle lens captures a wider FOV, while special lens treatment negates lens-flares.

The ANAFI’s slick design makes it perfect for taking outdoors on your next holiday. With easily swappable battery packs, you can capture hours of footage, allowing the drone to take photos and videos at dramatic angles (even exploiting Parrot’s Dolly Zoom technique, better known as the ‘Vertigo Effect’). The ANAFI comes with multiple dual-band Wi-Fi antennas (one on each foot of the drone) to help it pick up signal from the controller regardless of position or orientation. It comes with the Parrot’s own collapsible controller too, allowing you to dock your phone in it and view footage in real-time as you fly your drone around to as far as 2.5 miles from the pilot!

Parrot ANAFI Folding Drone Records 4K Stabilized Video

Parrot has introduced a new drone that looks set to take on the DJI Mavic Air, and it looks pretty sweet. The Parrot ANAFI drone is made specifically to take high-quality photos and video from the air, while being portable enough to tote in a backpack.

The ANAFI is a foldable drone designed specifically to make it easy to take with you and store.  It has an attached 4K HDR camera that can tilt on a 180-degree gimbal and has 2.8x lossless zoom. The camera also has three-axis image stabilization to eliminate any shake caused by wind or weather. Parrot designed the drone for quiet operation and to be resistant to weather conditions. An internal battery makes the drone good for flights of 25 minutes per charge.

AI is embedded to allow the drone to fly in autonomous modes to capture pro-quality shots, like automatically framing or following a subject. The camera uses a 1/2.4″ 21 megapixel CMOS Sony sensor with a wide-angle f/2.4 ASPH lens, and the still images it shoots can be output in Adobe DNG/RAW format for optimal quality. The ANAFI is priced at just $699.99, with additional batteries going for $99. It’s available for pre-order today from the Parrot website, with shipping starting on July 2, 2018.

Sometimes a drone, sometimes a plane!

When you can’t choose between a drone and a plane, get both! The Parrot’s Swing drone is a pretty nifty piece of design and engineering. It looks like an unsuspecting quadcopter with four black polystyrene wings, but these wings help it turn into a plane, getting it to fly at speeds much higher than conventional drones. It does so by tilting over and thus becoming like a plane with front-facing propellers, as opposed to the vertical propellers of a quad-copter.

Flying the Swing is indeed an adrenaline rush because it tips over, transforming into a supersonic jet of sorts, allowing it to fly at pretty marvelous speeds. When you slow down, it immediately retakes its vertical position and becomes a drone again! The Swing comes with its own Flypad, a joypad that allows you to mount your phone on it. With the Parrot app, you can control the Swing while also seeing data like flight time and battery levels. To make operating the Swing even more of a dream, it comes with an auto-takeoff and auto-landing feature, taking the complexity out of the drone’s operation so you can truly enjoy flying this quadcopter/jet hybrid in the sky!

Parrot’s latest drones are for farmers and firefighters

It's been a tough year for Parrot. The drone maker cut 290 jobs after sub-par sales, and it wasn't shy in admitting that its lineup was both unfocused and (for personal drones) unprofitable. However, it has an idea as to how to recover: by targeting...
