This Pig Stress Toy Gets Stressed Thanks to 2,000 Matches and a Lit Fuse

Those stress toys are supposed to help relieve your angst as you squeeze and just generally abuse them. So you’d think they could stand up to a lot of stress themselves. How much? Pyrogirl aimed to find out how much this pig stress toy could take. So naturally she stuffed 2,000 match heads into it to find out.

When she lights the fuse, she sets off a chain reaction and a perfect illustration of what can happen if we let stress build up. I won’t spoil it for you, except to say that it is a lot like a cartoon character exploding after swallowing dynamite.

The video would make for a great public service announcement about managing your stress.

ICYMI: Pig organ donors, 3D-printed car fashion and more

Porkfolio Piggy Bank Saves You Time to Save Its Life

The fragile nature of the traditional piggy bank was meant to force you to save your money until you really needed it, but it also meant you couldn’t count how much you already saved unless you break the thing open. Not so with the Porkfolio. It’s a smart piggy bank that can tell you how much money is inside it.

The Porkfolio was conceptualized by Quirky member Jason Hunter. The idea is to teach kids the basics of both saving money and online banking. When you insert a coin in Porkfolio’s belly, his nose will light up to indicate that it has recognized what coin you put in (though it only recognizes U.S. coins.) You will then use a companion mobile app to look at your balance and even set savings goals. But the app can do more than that.

According to Quirky, the app is the only legitimate way to open Porkfolio. If someone tampers with him or forces him open, the accelerometer inside him should detect the movement and alert you via the app.

There’s still no word on when and for how much Quirky will sell Porkfolio. Your current piggy bank is safe for now.

OfficeChums: The Perfect USB Family

Remember that clever USB hub and drive combo that looked like a pig and her piglets? At the time, it was just a design concept, and now it’s been made real. As a matter of fact, we’re getting a whole series of mama animals and their younglings in USB form.

In addition to the piggies, cat lovers and dog lovers will be able to grab their own precious little teat-suckling USB families to put on their desks.

Each little critter has a slot for a microSD card inside of it, so you can put as much or as little storage as you want in each one’s milkhole.

The PigChum, DogChum and CatChum drives are being made by Clooci, from the same guy behind the original design. The pig version will be available on March 1 (National Pig Day, of course), while the cat and dog will be available on July 6 (the slightly less appropriate National Kissing Day.) They’ll sell for 19.99 (~$31 USD), but remember that doesn’t include any memory cards.

You can pre-order OfficeChums here.
