Golf Putting Pool Table

This is a great game fore! your home, a real hole in one. The Golf Putting Pool Table is a giant putting green that lets you play pool. And golf. At the same time. Everyone can get in on the fun. This 78″ by 57″ mat rolls up for easy storage (you know, in case you don’t want a permanent giant pool table on your floor, but hey if you do then go for it champ). To set it up, just unroll, attach the rails, and you’re good to go.

Looks like tons of fun. And easier for kids (and adults) to master than regular game of pool because it’s way easier to hit a putt than use a pool cue. The set comes with the green, rails, carbon fiber golf clubs, and 16 golf balls painted up just like a normal pool set. A great gift or party idea. Just don’t two putt the eight ball and don’t chalk up your golf clubs.

Cruise Ships Self-Leveling Pool Tables Counteract The Motion of the Ocean

I’ve never been on a cruise before, because the ocean freaks me out. I don’t even want to think about what horrors lie deep under the sea. I’ve always rather assumed that giant cruise ships are pretty much immune to the waves outside, but I guess I am wrong.

One look at this gyroscopic, self-leveling pool table on a cruise ship called the Radiance of the Seas will show you that in rough weather, the ship can move A LOT. Just look at how much the table has to move in order to keep its surface flat.

This video was shot back in 2011, but it still provides a perfect visual reference to why I won’t go on a cruise. I kept expecting someone to fall over with all of that motion, but it never happens.

Donut-shaped Pool Table: Bakery Billiards

This is a pool table that Homer Simpson would love. It was made by designer Cléon Daniel, and it looks delicious. I don’t think you could play a game on it without getting hungry.

Like donuts in a bakery, this pool table was made completely by hand. It also introduces some new challenges to the game of billiards. The hole in the middle is large enough for you to stand in, which gives you an interesting angle for those tricky shots.

The table’s bumpers mimic the imperfect wavy edge of frosting on a real donut, so good luck with your usual trick shots. This would make for a crazy billiards game that might last all day. It is a super fun design though.

Ford Mustang Pool Tables: Nine Ball, Driver’s Side Pocket

Car Pool Tables, based in Largo, Florida, takes old sports cars and muscle cars and turns them into unique pool tables. If you have money to burn and don’t mind that these classic cars have been chopped up a bit, this should be your next car purchase.

They basically take actual cars, make molds of the parts, cut up and shorten the components, then add the paint and chrome. The end result is a pool table like no other. A felt drop-top. Obviously they aren’t drivable anymore, but a surprising amount of the original car details remain intact. Tony Utegaard, the co-founder says that they joke about people stripping these pool tables for parts one day.

They don’t just do Mustangs, but all kinds of old cars. Check out this 1959 Corvette…

OpenPool Augmented Reality Kit Adds Visual Effects to Billiard Tables: Trick Shots

Pool tables come in hundreds of different styles, but if you really want to make your setup unique, check out OpenPool. It’s an augmented reality system that lets you project visual effects on the bed that react to the motion of the balls.

OpenPool is an open source program that uses a Kinect sensor to track the balls on the table, then feeds the visual effects to a projector mounted above the table. OpenPool also has an optional complementary device that triggers additional visual effects when a ball sinks into a pocket.

OpenPool isn’t for small time players though. You have to pledge at least $5,000 (USD) on Kickstarter to get a full OpenPool kit, which includes a PC, a Kinect and a projector – and that doesn’t include the pool table. You can also get a DIY kit – basically just the software and a mount for the projector – by pledging at least $1,000. Masse your browser to the OpenPool website to see additional information as well as more demo videos.
