Luxurious Lounge Chair + Pouf Set Will Add An Air Of Quiet Elegance To Your Living Room

A comfy, cozy, and cushy lounge chair can make a whole world of difference to your living space. Imagine settling into the comfiest lounge chair there is after an exceedingly long day of work, curling up with your favorite book, or binge-watching your favorite Netflix series. It’s important to have comfortable yet functional seating designs scattered all over our home, and if they also manage to be aesthetically pleasing, well then it’s a match made in heaven. Add good ergonomics to the mix, and they could be able to provide a generous amount of support to our backs and butts. So, if you’re looking for some well-designed seating solutions that will also harmoniously complement the rest of the furniture in your home and interiors, then I may have found the perfect designs for you – the Prowling Lounge Chair and its accompanying Lurking Pouf.

Designer: FURN OBJECT

Designed by Ukraine-based design studio FURN OBJECT, the Prowling Lounge Chair, and Lurking Pouf combine to create quite a lovely set of furniture pieces. Both pieces were designed with a sense of stability and sophistication and were accentuated with a solid character and loud yet calming presence. Both, the chair and the pouf, have a stylish and elegant minimalistic silhouette that is made up of interesting geometric shapes, and complex connections.

The Prowling Lounge Chair features three curved tubes which form the main frame of the chair. This main frame encloses and supports the large seat, and functions as the legs, back, and armrests of the chair. The various elements of the chair have been attached and connected extremely artfully and subtly, giving the impression that they’re barely touching one another. The entire lounge chair has been coated in a soft velvet fabric, which lends a lush and luxurious air to it.

The Lurking Pouf, on the other hand, has a rather adorable and compact form. It has a mushroom-like shape and seems to be upholstered in the same soft velvet fabric as the Prowling Lounge Chair. Both the furniture pieces perfectly complement one another, creating an enticing and thoughtfully-designed set that adds a sense of simple elegance and quiet beauty to any living space it is placed into.

Small Homes Could Benefit From This Cleverly Designed Ottoman Stool with a Built-In Storage Shelf

I’m not one to advocate for folding furniture because they look incredibly utilitarian (unless it’s the Transformer Table), but I definitely love furniture that’s multifunctional. Take the Berliner Pouf for example. Designed to look like a visually eye-catching pouf, the Berliner also doubles up as a storage shelf thanks to its wormhole-like cavity running through the middle. This cavity doesn’t affect the pouf’s comfort in any way, but it adds a unique feature to it, giving you the perfect place to store books, magazines, and remotes, or even use it as a lounging space for small pets!

Designer: Tugce Sonmez Evin

“In today’s housing or workplace understanding, space is a thing that we all want to save. Instead of filling each void with another object, we all seek smart solutions to save some unaccompanied space for a feeling of comfort. Berliner is designed for this purpose,” says the Berliner’s designer, Tugce Sonmez Evin.

The Berliner gets its name from its resemblance to the eponymously named iconic German pastry, which also has a slice running through its center that’s then filled with cream. The Berliner Pouf replaces that with a concave inner surface, spacious enough to store reading material like books, magazines, newspapers, or even regular living room items like chargers, pet toys, etc.

The Berliner Pouf can be visually divided into its two distinct parts. The soft outer, and the wooden interior. The wooden core is hand carved on a turning lathe from Ayous timber, and is layered with foam on the top and bottom, that’s then capped with faux fur for a comfortable seating experience. The area separating the wood from the fur is lined with brass detailing, giving the pouf a touch of elegance. The brass rings are bent by hand and welded to fit tight. All production is a close collective work of 3 ateliers working with different materials. While the initial production is finished by hand, the design is suitable to be produced by CNC machines.

The Berliner Pouf is a Silver Winner of the A’ Design Award for the year 2023.

This striking couch makes a powerful statement on face masks

There was a point in very recent history when it seemed that the world had run out of single-use face masks, sometimes referred to as surgical masks. Eventually, however, supply did finally catch up to demand, and the use of such protective gear became so common that people would acquire them in bulk. Unfortunately, these masks weren’t made exactly made with regular people in mind and in situations where they would not be disposed of properly. What was a tool that helped save human lives, unfortunately, became poison to the planet, especially our already polluted waters. Although restrictions have been lifted in many places, these single-use masks are still in high demand and use, including outside the medical field, and the harm that these discarded masks pose to the environment has been demonstrated with dramatic effect in a pouf made almost completely out of this personal protective equipment.

Designer: Tobia Zambotti

Surgical masks look simple enough that most probably take for granted the materials used to make them. Most probably presume that they’re made from biodegradable material since they feel like cloth or paper, but that’s not exactly true. They are made from a certain kind of plastic, and they can’t be recycled because of their use in medical scenarios. Thus, they become dangerous pollutants, whether they’re burned by incinerators or thrown into the waters.

Given the volume of single-use masks produced and discarded on a regular basis, that can easily cause an environmental problem. What makes the situation worse is that very few people are aware of this situation, let alone of the harmful potential of these masks. What better way to call their attention, then, than by putting this number into perspective in a rather shocking manner?

That is what COUCH-19 does in a way that is both meaningful but also useful. Hundreds of used masks are collected and then sanitized using ozone before they’re entombed in a pouf made from recyclable crystal PVC. Each pouf is modular so that it can be combined with others to form a couch to one’s specifications. The poufs are shaped irregularly to give the semblance of the masks frozen in time. The iceberg-like design is intended to be a reference to global warming.

As a couch, the COUCH-19 looks both interesting but also a bit unsettling, which is part of the message. While there’s no doubt that it can function as a piece of furniture, its appearance is alien enough to give our brains pause, forcing us to face the reality that those masks convey, that of a world where we might be forced to live with the very trash that we so mindlessly throw away.

This handwoven rattan poof is inspired by a traditional Malaysian rice dumpling

In Malaysia, Ketupat is a traditional rice dumpling that is wrapped in a pouch of woven palm leaves. It is a rice delicacy usually served during the Hari Raya, and it inspired Aureole founder Tan Wei Ming to design a series of modern poufs! Called the ‘Ketupat’, the pouf was displayed at the Singapore Design Week 2022, held last month.

Designer: Aureole x Tanoti

Ketupat is popularly known for its palm-leaf-wrapped exterior. The pouf perfectly mimics the original dish, except for the fact that Ming replaced the outer palm leaves with a handwoven rattan. The fact that the Ketupat pouf really looks like an actual Ketupat is really quite fascinating. Ming wanted to reflect her love for food in her designs, and she did so perfectly with this pouf.

“I wanted to incorporate local or Asian flavor in the design context,” said Ming, who majored in typography design in London.

Ming collaborated with Tanoti, a Sarawak-based social enterprise team. One of Tanoti’s community initiatives is to encourage rattan craft development in an attempt to introduce income-generating opportunities that are sustainable to Sarawak’s remote forest communities. This collaboration explores “adapting traditional crafts into new variations of home products”.

The pieces are intended to be low-seating, and follow the style of Asian “floor culture”. They can be adapted into various dimensions based on the user’s personal requirements and preferences. The Ketupat pouf is a fun and amusing design, that is a great option for foodies, who want to express their love of food through their home decor!

This modular pouf and sofa hybrid concept looks a teeny bit uncomfortable

Modular furniture has become quite the fad these days, especially as people begin to understand how little floor space they actually have. Furniture that performs more than one function is also en vogue because having two pieces of furniture in the space of one helps a lot in saving space and money. Not everything can be combined perfectly, of course, and some take a bit of creative thinking to get around contrasting or incompatible elements. There are times when you do end up with a solution that is visually interesting to the point of being beautiful but may, unfortunately, be impractical for the purpose it was designed for in the first place.

Designer: Rostyslav Sorokovyi

Adding poufs, sometimes called poofs, to a room is a common way to add a bit of visual flair while also adding functionality. Often confused with an ottoman, a pouf is a solid cushion that is mostly (or only) used as a seat while also adding some accents to the room. Since it doesn’t take up more space than a chair, it’s an easy way to spice up the space or bring a bit of color and contrast to an otherwise normal, boring interior.

A pouf, however, often only accommodates one person, which means you might want to have more of them if you want to seat more. You could get a sofa, but that ties you into a fixed size that will forever take up a portion of the area, at least until you throw it out. Combining pouf and sofa, the “Puffa” tries to let you have the best of both worlds while leaving plenty of room to change your mind repeatedly later on.

That’s partly because the Puffa is designed to be modular so that you can combine or remove segments as the need arises. You can have a single pouf-like arrangement with three standard size capsule-like cushions, or you can have a long sofa that combines a number of cushions with one extra tall piece for the backrest. You can even have two chairs if you don’t need a full sofa taking up a single stretch of floor space.

Puffa is envisioned to come in different colors, and you can mix and match them to your heart’s desires or aesthetic tastes. This meets the original function of a pouf to give some life to a room by offering something visually interesting for the eyes to settle on. Unfortunately, while the Puffa looks good indeed, it might not be the most comfortable thing to sit on.

The capsule-like design of the cushions creates arched shapes on top, which look a bit too bumpy for your bumper. It might even be less comfortable to lie on, which is what some people do on their sofas. The material could be soft enough to be comfortable, but the uneven surface could still be bad news for your body. There could be other ways to design such a modular “pouf + sofa” hybrid, like using blocks instead of capsules, but that does lose the visual appeal of a rather odd and eye-catching form in the room.

This rug doubles up as seating – we can’t get enough it’s transforming furniture design!

Who isn’t fascinated by transforming furniture designs? I love watching how furniture can serve multiple purposes by simple actions like a pull of a string or folding of a flap. My latest love in the realm of (furniture) transformers is FLUP – a multifunctional furniture piece that is both a rug and a seat! Furniture designs like FLUP are perfect for smaller living spaces, especially with the growing tiny house movement.

In the unfolded position, FLUP works like a conventional mat or rug on which we can sit or step without interrupting the movement of people through the space. It transforms from plane to volume, from floor to space while changing the function with its shape. In the folded position, it works as a piece of minimal furniture – it can be used as a pouf, an auxiliary seat, a footrest, a nightstand, etc.

flup1

It is a perfect example of space-saving furniture. What makes it better is that there is no assembly required, it is a singular element that transforms with folds into another object like origami. With micro-apartments and being the new trend, flexible and lightweight furniture designs like FLUP are super handy. It is minimal, multifunctional and can be flat-packed for storage – there is no reason to not love FLUP!
