LiquidOff Spray Repels Water, Minus the Haze

LiquidOff

Klutzes, rejoice! If you spill stuff a lot or walk around carelessly into puddles of mud, then you might want to get a bottle or two of LiquidOff. As the name suggests, it’s a hydrophobic spray that you can use to coat your shirt, pants, and shoes with a waterproof layer, so your stuff remains free from stains.

This isn’t the first waterproofing spray to hit the market, but it’s one of the few that are water-based. Creator Harold Stewart got the inspiration for LiquidOff after babysitting his sibling’s kids and noticing what a mess kids can make Harold explains: “Trying to learn as much about the technology and its intrinsic properties, as well as learning how certain chemical agents bond to create a desired effect, was a process.”

He adds: “It was imperative for us to stay away from the use of aerosols (those are toxic and completely harmful for the environment), which just happens to be what everyone in this industry uses.”

LiquidOff is currently up for funding on Kickstarter, where a minimum pledge of $55 will get you one 375ml-sized bottle.

NeverWet Makes Stuff Never Gets Wet

If you’re a bit of a klutz, then it might be a good idea for you to go through measures to prevent the damage that might arise from all your klutziness. One of these is by spraying stuff that you want to keep dry with NeverWet.

NeverWet

NeverWet is a neat system that lets you thoroughly liquid-proof stuff that might otherwise get stained if you spill something on them or get them wet, like suede shoes or sneakers. It’s dubbed as a “superhydrophobic” coating that’ll cause liquids to just glide off of the surfaces of objects that have been treated with it.

The entire coating process will take over an hour to complete. First, you have to spray on the base coat, which will take 30 minutes to dry. Then you have to spray it all over with the top coat, which will take another 30 minutes to dry. The only real downside is that NeverWet will dry with a frosted appearance, although a clear-drying version is currently being developed.

Jellyfish Ahoy!

I remember gazing at the jellyfish with utter amazement in Hong Kong’s Ocean Park aquarium. Little did I know that their sting can be so painful and apparently some species’ sting can actually prove fatal for humans! I love the ocean and shudder to think how would it feel to get stung. The Ocean Guard is a series of buoys that use ultra-low frequency sound waves to prevent jellyfish from entering certain areas. It is a safer way to keep them at bay, without harming them. Peaceful co-existence I suppose.

Ocean Guard is an IDEA Award winning entry.
