These cooking pods let you easily boil and strain your veggies, eggs, and pasta

You may have seen a similar-looking apparatus in ramen shops, where chefs boil noodles within cylindrical sieve containers, allowing them to easily prepare multiple portions in the same pot of boiling water and scoop the noodles out just when they’re ready. Or maybe you’ve seen an equivalent in your everyday diner, as the cook uses an immersion fryer to make french fries or onion rings. The Trebonn Cookin’Pods bring a similar compartmentalized cooking experience to your own home. Designed to let you boil pasta, vegetables, or even eggs in water without having to fish in with a slotted spoon to retrieve them later, the Cookin’Pods rest directly on the rim of your saucepan with their base immersed in the water. When you want to take your food out, just grab a pair of gloves and pull the Cookin’Pods out. The pods automatically strain your food in a split second, saving you time and effort.

There’s a certain convenience to the Cookin’Pods but their biggest advantage is their ability to let you easily compartmentalize your cooking. Imagine having to cook pasta in boiling water as well as blanch vegetables. While under normal circumstances you’d require two separate saucepans to prepare the two different foods, Cookin’Pods lets you do it all right in one pot of boiling water. Just add the pasta in one pod and the veggies in the other. Not only do the pods let you separately cook both at the same time, but they also let you easily take either one out when they’re done cooking – something that would be impossible if your vegetables and pasta were all chucked into the same saucepan together!

The colorful Cookin’Pods are made from a thermoset plastic that can withstand high temperatures. The Cookin’Pods are designed to be used only in water (you can’t immerse them in hot oil), and Trebonn recommends not using them on a gas burner with a high flame, just in case the heat causes the pods to warp. Even though they aren’t made from metal, the Cookin’Pods do get hot, so when you’re taking them out of the saucepan, it’s best if you use oven mitts to hold their handles.

This sushi mat inspired chopping board rolls up to occupy less space in your kitchen

A folding chopping board is more genius than you’d think! Imagine this… the board occupies the same amount of space as a rolling pin, but just when you need it, open it out and it unfolds into a beautiful surface to prep your veggies, chop up some fruits, or even butcher your meat. Plus, the mat curves up as you lift it, making it much easier to empty your chopped/diced/julienned food into a saucepan or skillet!

The uniquely flexible Trebonn Roll mat is made of two parts. Individual vertical strips made from a knife-friendly polymer, connected together by a flexible, food-grade, dishwasher-friendly silicone mat. The silicone is responsible for the mat’s hinges, and a magnetic closure at one end lets you snap the mat shut in place. Open it out and the mat unfolds to reveal a flat cutting surface… just make sure your knife-work isn’t parallel to the silicone hinges (you don’t want to accidentally cut the hinges through and through). Once you’re done cutting and chopping, the mat’s flexible design makes it easy to collect all your chopped bits and pour them into your crock pot, saucepan, skillet, or mixing bowl. The mat’s easy to clean – it rinses under tap water, or conversely, you could just place it in the dishwasher with the rest of your cutlery. When you’re done, it rolls right up into a nice scroll that fits right in one of your kitchen drawers, occupying a mere fraction of the space any regular cutting board would!

A sleeker, simpler, smarter spoon!

slide_spoon_1

If there’s one thing that’s been constant through all our lives, it’s been the spoon. Joseph Joseph’s Slide Spoon changes that, with a design that tackles two areas where design intervention may be necessary. The Slide Spoon comes in a compact shape that stays closed when not in use. Open it up and the spoon provides a nice scooped concavity for measuring ingredients. The scoop of the spoon comes with markings that act as measuring units, letting you measure out teaspoonfuls of ingredients. The upper part acts as a leveling unit, allowing you to level the amount you scoop out so that your spoonfuls are accurately measured. Once you’re done, close the spoon and store it in your drawer along with the rest of your kitchenware!
