Jawa Sandcrawler Custom Gaming PC: Utini!

As are many of you, I’m a huge fan of The Mandalorian. The Disney+ series is packed with great characters, tons of action and surprises, while still paying respects to the classic tropes of the Star Wars universe. One of the classic Star Wars vehicles to turn up in the show was the Jawas’ Sandcrawler, which made its debut in A New Hope. Now, a talented and resourceful maker has decided to build himself a workstation PC that looks just like the Jawas’ iconic land transport.

Jason Hurst loves building all kinds of things in his shop, but most of all has a passion for Star Wars stuff. His creations include everything from a wooden TIE fighter to a metal Slave One and Millennium Falcon. His Sandcrawler PC is definitely among his coolest projects.

To build the PC, Jason first created a cardboard mockup of the Sandcrawler, then used the cutouts as templates for cutting sheets of steel. After that, he welded the case together, added on those big caterpillar tracks on the bottom, and embellished it with lots of hand-scribed details. He then spent about two days painting it to give it that rusty, weathered look. In all, it took him about a month of hard work.

Jason documented the build process in the video clip below, which is well worth a watch.

Inside that big metal case you won’t find any Jawas or scavenged drone parts, but you will find a gaming PC that packs a water-cooled AMD Ryzen 9 3950x processor, AORUS X570 I Pro motherboard, NVIDIA GeForce GTX1070 graphics card, 32GB of Corsair Vengeance LPX 2133MHz RAM, EK Water Blocks, Noctua_at fans, and a 1TB M. PCIe Gen 4 SSD.

Be sure to drop by Jason’s YouTube channel and Instagram page to check out his many other builds, and to keep up on his latest creations.

Sarlacc Plush Devours a Tiny Boba Fett

Fans of Boba Fett all know how the bounty hunter meets his demise in Return of the Jedi. He gets ejected by a blinded Han Solo right into the maw of the Sarlacc where he will be digested for all eternity.

Star Wars Celebration is going on later this month in Orlando, and as happens each year, there will be some awesome exclusive collectibles on hand. One of the coolest Star Wars toys I have ever seen is this Sarlacc pit plush complete with an entangled Boba Fett going to his doom.

I have no idea how much it will cost, but I’d pay it. Another cool collectible is the sweet Sandcrawler and Jawa plush. It looks like the side of that plush Sandcrawler might open up and let you cram the Jawa inside.

There will be plenty of shirts and other items at the celebration as well. I hope ThinkGeek gets some of the leftovers again this year as it has in the past, so those of us not in attendance can get our hands on some of this cool swag.

10,000-brick LEGO Technic Star Wars Sandcrawler Actually Crawls in the Sand

Check out this massive and awesome LEGO Sandcrawler made by Jarren Harkema and Calvin Hartley. They studied Star Wars: Episode IV inside and out then set out to create this beast. They also spent hundreds of hours planning, designing and building it.

This LEGO masterpiece measures 3-feet long, weighs 28-pounds, and took 10,000-bricks to construct. It’s also mechanised, with moving tracks, an elevator, a droid lift, a conveyor belt, and cooling fans on the roof.

They spent over 500 hours building the sandcrawler, and it was recently shown off to the public at Chicago’s Brickworld LEGO convention. It was even nominated for “Best Mechanical Creation.”

You have to love all of that detail. All of that time studying the movie really paid off. The duo behind the creation met at a LEGO robotics club and have been friends ever since. Obviously, they make a great team, and have a great eye for detail.

LEGO Star Wars Sandcrawler is Official

A few years back, LEGO builder Marshal Banana created an incredible Star Wars Sandcrawler model. Later, the model would find its way to Cuusoo, but never quite got to the point it needed to go into production. Now, it looks like LEGO has managed to finally release its own Sandcrawler kit, though it’s not as epic as the 10,000 piece original.

LEGO’s version of the Sandcrawler is about 1/3rd the number of bricks, at 3,296 pieces, but still looks pretty awesome. Part of the Ultimate Collectors’ series, the model is quite large, and has plenty of room for minifig Jawas and droids inside. Overall measurements for the vehicle are 18″ (L) x 9″(H) x 6″ (W).

It’s got a number of moving parts, including a ramp on the front that can be raised and lowered with the turn of a knob, a droid-lifting crane, and even has that vacuum sucky thingy for lifting up droids.

While its treads aren’t motorized, they can move when pushed across a surface, and they can be steered too. Here’s hoping someone figures out a way to hack a motor in there.

The set also comes with a number of minifigs, including four Jawas, Luke Skywalker, Uncle Owen, C-3PO, R2-D2, R5-D4, and four other droids. It even comes with some spare droid parts, because that’s what Jawas do. Below is just a sampling of the minifigs included:

LEGO expects to ship the Sandcrawler this May, and it will sell for $299.99(USD) at shop.lego.com.
