This AI-enabled bike helmet with spatial awareness is your new safety must-have accessory!

A smart helmet for accident-prone city streets where spatial awareness is the difference between life and death situation!

More than 700 cyclists are killed every year by other motorists in the U.S. alone, and the graph hasn’t seen any significant drop in the last few years. This is a clear indication of the danger bicycle riders put themselves into every time they head to the streets – making them the most vulnerable participants in public traffic. Although self-driving cars and the level of safety in modern cars have evolved considerably, still bike riders are not being recognized by motorists in time to avert fatal accidents.

Thinkable Studio wants to curb this with an innovative helmet design that equips cyclists with their own set of spatial awareness tech to avoid accidents. Called the savAR helmet, this piece of bicycle accessory is loaded with augmented reality and artificial intelligence components to naïve the traditional helmet protection methods. The ever-evolving smart software of the helmet and the AR waveguide technology enhances the rider’s awareness of the crowded streets and other motorists nearby by quite a few notches.

With time the AI learns the riding behavior and in a way looks out for the rider with the 360-degree camera vision to the rescue. Even before an impending danger can turn ugly, the software anticipates the unusually fast approaching vehicle from any direction and alerts the cyclists to take the lifesaving action to avert any collision. The AI calculates the potential course of collision and the time to the impact. This is aided by the waveguide tech embedded in the visor of the helmet which gives the rider a full picture of the incoming dangerous vehicle. To enhance the warning systems’ capability, there are both visual display warnings and audio alarms via the embedded speakers.

To give other motorists a clear idea of what you a rider intend to do, there are ultra-bright LED turning signal lights and smart braking lights that can be activated via Bluetooth control and voice activations system. The smart helmet is compatible with phone or cycle computer to view all the stats, route maps, and other heads-up data that is important while riding. To take safety to the next level, savAR has embedded MIPS impact protection layer and ride recording capability for capturing any unfortunate incident as proof for later on.

This innovative smart helmet doesn’t just protect you from accidents, it prevents them altogether

The car has multiple safeguards in place to prevent collisions and accidents. Sure, it has a seatbelt and an airbag, but the car’s headlight, taillight, indicators, and horn also play a pivotal role in letting people know when it’s about to brake, make a turn, etc. Most bicycles, on the other hand, have just two safeguards… the rather harmless bike bell, and the bicycle helmet. In a world where over 40,000 bicyclists die globally each year, the LIVALL EVO21 Smart Bike Helmet is aiming at impacting change by making bicycling smarter and safer.

Apart from serving as protection for your head, the LIVALL EVO21 helps other motorists and pedestrians be aware of your presence and helps avoid a collision in the first place. The helmet’s aerodynamic outer-shell comes with a built-in wide beam angle front light as well as a super bright 270° rear light and two turn indicators. Controlled by a tiny remote that straps to your handlebar, the lights offer 360° visibility to people around you, allowing them to be aware of your presence as well as of your intentions as you ride. The wide beam-angle headlight offers great visibility by shining a beam of light that’s wide horizontally as well as vertically, allowing oncoming traffic to spot you even if you’re cycling with your head down for better aerodynamism. It’s accompanied by a 270° taillight on the back that’s visible from rear as well as the sides. The taillight comes with built-in turn indicators that can be triggered from the handlebar remote, and accelerometer sensors integrated into the LIVALL EVO21 know when you’re slowing down and stopping, automatically flashing the brake-light for motorists behind you and reminding them to keep a safe distance.

The built-in accelerometer and 3-axis G sensor also play a pivotal role in emergency scenarios. The LIVALL EVO21 has an impact sensor that can detect when you’ve suffered a collision or fallen off your bike. When the helmet impacts against a surface (like the ground) it triggers an SOS Alert that sends your GPS location to your designated emergency contact within LIVALL’s smartphone app. In case it’s a false alarm (you could have just dropped your helmet by mistake), the LIVALL app offers a 90-second window to cancel the alert.

The helmet itself comes with a modern, aerodynamic design that helps channel airflow to limit drag as well as keep your head ventilated. My personal favorite feature is the fact that the vents on the front even let you dock your sunglasses into the helmet! Its outer layer is made from tough Polycarbonate that absorbs and distributes the impact force to prevent it from transferring to your head, while an intermediary layer is made from a special Polysource PSI impact-resistant material that adds a secondary layer of shock absorption. The innermost part of the helmet uses a memory foam for ultimate cushioning and comfort, providing a snug fit, which can be further adjusted using the strap around your chin, or a knob on the back. Each LIVALL EVO21 helmet weighs a mere 350 grams (0.77 pounds) so you can wear it for hours without feeling any strain, and is also designed to be IPX5 waterproof, so you can wear it in any weather. An internal battery gives the LIVALL EVO21 a continuous usage time of 10 hours (or a week’s worth of moderate use), and there’s even a magnetic charger in the box to recharge the battery. The helmets come in medium and large sizes across a variety of colors, and the LIVALL app – which lets you track and share your rides, miles, and daily cycling records with a tight-knit community of global riders – is compatible with both Android as well as iOS and supports 12 different languages.

The LIVALL EVO21 builds on 7 years of innovation and development. Designed by a company that created and developed the world’s first-ever smart helmet in 2015, the EVO21 is LIVALL’s most advanced smart-helmet, putting rider comfort and safety at its very forefront. In fact, the EVO21 even went on to win the prestigious iF Gold Award for the year 2021 (beating over 10,000 other designs) for its remarkable combination of and balance between eye-catching form and life-saving function.

LIVALL EVO21 Smart Helmet: 360 Active Protection

The EVO21 is an ultra-light (350g) smart helmet with 360° visibility, patented SOS system and upgraded impact protection to help prevent crashes before they happen.

360 Degree Visibility

Wide-angle front lights and super-bright 270° rear lights are integrated into the helmet, maximizing your visibility even at long ranges, while smart LEDs signal to drivers what you’ll do next – stop, turn, or ride on through.

The three dynamic light effects will make sure you get noticed on any street, improving your safety and helping you ride in style.

Automatic Brake Warning Light

The EVO21 has sensors to detect when you’re slowing down or coming to a stop, and it automatically turns on the brake warning light on the back of your helmet. Letting other riders and motorists know you’re stopping. And keeping you safe and secure, night and day.

Keep Hands on the Bars

The EVO21’s turn signals operate the same way a car or motorcycle does, with super bright LEDs that signal your turn to drivers at the press of a button.

A remote on your handlebar communicates wirelessly with the EVO’s smart LEDs. Letting you keep your hands, and your attention, right where you need them.

Wide Beam-angle Front Light

Cyclists tend to lower their heads to gain extra speed while riding. The problem is, this can reduce your visibility to drivers – even if your helmet has a light.

To tackle this challenge, they developed a front light with a 45°reach, so it can be seen even if you’re tucking your head for a sprint. The EVO21’s wide beam light will shine through at any angle, making you visible at long distances and letting everyone know you’re coming.

Patented Fall Detection

Their fall detection and SOS technology can detect falls anywhere above 1.5 meters, and triggers an SOS alert text message to your emergency contact within 90 seconds of a fall, giving them your precise GPS location.

10 Hour Battery Life

A single charge will give you 10 hours of battery life. That’s about a week’s worth of commuting for the average cyclist.

Smart On. Smart Off

Power on once to start your ride, and after that the EVO21 will take over, turning on within 4 seconds each time it touches your head and then powering down once you take it off.

Ride in Any Weather

The EVO21 is IPX5 waterproof, so the LED lighting system and remote will run smoothly in any weather.

Impact Protection

The first layer is crafted from PC material that spreads the force of a crash throughout the shell, minimizing force and cushioning your head. The second layer of Polysource PSI is a special impact-resistant liner which absorbs the remaining pressure and keeps it away from your head. And the final layer is lovingly crafted out of memory foam, ensuring a snug fit no matter how long your ride.

LIVALL Riding App

Customize everything from light settings, turn signals, battery reports, and daily cycling records. And the App links up to LIVALL’s community of like-minded riders.

This smart helmet uses organic photovoltaics for clean energy while keeping you stylish and safe!

WertelOberfell, a Germany-based designed studio, recently debuted their energy self-sufficient bicycle helmet, ESUB Tracks. The helmet is designed to keep cyclists safe and the creative team at WertelOberfell certainly checked all their corners when considering the different obstacles cyclists face on the road. Built-in smart features buzz through this helmet and they’re powered by organic photovoltaics that gives this helmet all the energy it needs to keep you safe.

In order to turn the ordinary helmet into an energy self-sufficient, smart helmet, the designers turned to science. Printed organic batteries and a Nano Arduino, a microcontroller, contained in one unit at the rear of the helmet, run the whole show and all the incorporated electric components, but the helmet’s surface provides the energy. The designers achieved the futuristic look of this helmet by wrapping flat, organic, printed photovoltaics all around in order to use the outer layer of ESUB Tracks as a PV module that absorbs sunlight and turns it into energy. This form of energy self-sufficiency allows the helmet’s batteries and smart features to constantly recharge and give power to the varying smart features and electric components that distinguish ESUB Tracks. ESUB Tracks carries a lot of hidden features, one being an integrated speaker. The helmet’s printed piezoelectric, bone conduction speakers are heat pressed onto leather straps with an embossed interior layer that slightly presses against the user’s ear for close acoustics. The speakers connect via Bluetooth from your smartphone and provide crystal clear audio without reducing the sound levels that surround that user. Along the backside of ESUB Tracks is the helmet’s sensor domain.

Here’s when the safety perks come in. If cyclists wearing ESUB Tracks aren’t aware of what’s going on behind them, then rear proximity sensors will let users know when automobiles or other cyclists are getting too close. Additionally, haptic feedback is integrated into the sensors so that piezoelectric haptic actuators vibrate whenever ESUB Tracks senses some sort of road danger or just close vehicle proximity. Just beneath the user’s chin, a printed piezoelectric microphone understands voice commands so that if a cyclist has to make a turn, then the microphone can register voice commands such as turn signals, no hand motion required. To top it off, or bottom it off, ESUB Tracks integrates self-adjusting chin straps that use an electric drive to fasten straps until the helmet fits comfortably and safely atop the cyclist’s head, no manual adjustments needed. Maybe this is actually what they all meant when they said they could ride with no hands.

This smart helmet with dynamic LEDs and a sleek design keeps you fashionable and safe!

We’re seeing an unprecedented shift to biking. It’s healthy, inexpensive, and in a world where we’re all working from home, it’s more expedient because commutes are usually much shorter – to the grocery or a friend’s place and back. However, it has its share of issues too… Most biking accidents occur because bicycles are inherently quiet and relatively invisible – especially in low-light conditions.

The FARO helmet hopes to make bicycling safer and more convenient during this cycling-boom. It comes with a sleek design that’s reminiscent of the kind of helmets scooterists wear, and sports LED strips on the front and back, along with their signature Hidden Light that helps people around you be aware of your presence. The helmet’s integrated lights are a more effective alternative to bike-mounted lights that often get stolen or just aren’t visible enough because they are located down low. Given that FARO’s lights are at eye level, they provide maximum visibility too, while also giving an indication of the direction you’re looking in.

By combining safety along with style, and a slew of smart features, the FARO is a helmet that’s designed to be desirable. Its sleek hard-shell design comes with minimalist vents for easy air-circulation, a weatherproof Fabric Liner on the back, and a uniquely pleasant magnetic closure around your chin. While its sleek, minimalist aesthetic truly sets it apart (making it perhaps one of the few helmets you’ll WANT to wear), its smart features like the automatic brake-light, fall-detection, and a sleek handlebar remote (for the indicators) give it the edge over most off-the-shelf bike helmets.

The FARO helmet comes with a protective ABS+PC outer-shell that conforms to International Certification standards, along with a MIPS inner for extra safety. It features an LED strip on the front as well as the back, but its most defining element is the Hidden Light that sits under the fabric liner. All the lights can be personalized via the FARO app, allowing you to set colors and patterns a battery consumption. The helmet has an automatic brake-light built in and uses an accelerometer to detect when you’re slowing down. The handlebar remote lets you easily switch on the FARO’s indicator system, which lets drivers behind know which way you’re turning. You can also connect your helmet to the app and activate the fall-detection feature, allowing you to send out an SOS alert to an emergency contact if you ever suffer a fall.

The helmet comes in 3 sizes, with 4 different colors to choose from. Once you determine your size, an internal fitting mechanism lets you adjust the fit perfectly to the circumference of your head. Made to be worn anytime, and even in any weather, the FARO comes IPX6-certified, which means it can easily handle rainfall. An internal 1850mAh battery allows you to use the helmet’s smart-features for up to 10 hours on a full charge, and the helmet also has a USB port that allows you to charge it every few days – so that you’re always visible and always safe!

FARO by UNIT 1: A Sleek, Visibility-First Smart Helmet

A smart helmet that delivers style, safety, and comfort with a state-of-the-art light system, ventilation, MIPS, and fall detection.

Stay Visible

Cycling accidents on the street are often caused by a lack of visibility and unclear communication. Drivers and other riders not seeing you well enough or not knowing what you’re going to do next. 80% of riders use cycling lights and still don’t feel safe. Why? Because they’re small and sit quite low. On top of that, they are easily lost, forgotten, or even stolen.

Helmets usually work the same way as seatbelts: they only work for you the second you get hit (which can save your life obviously).

How can a helmet work for you all the time? You put lights on it. They are bigger, much higher and more visible than regular cycling lights – that’s exactly what they did with FARO.

Stay Comfortable & Safe

Every FARO was designed up to International Certification standards. To take it up a notch, they partnered up with MIPS – a Swedish company at the forefront on helmet safety – to take FARO to the next level in terms of safety.

Fabric Liner

FARO’s backside features a fabric-covered portion. This fabric is tough, tear-proof and waterproof, the same kind used in those speakers you can throw in the pool.

But how do you put lights on a helmet without making it look like sci-fi? You cover them up with a classy fabric liner. During the day you rock that fabric that looks & feels amazing. At night…the magic happens.

The Navigation Remote

Sometimes being visible is not enough and you need to let others know you’re stopping or about to make a turn. FARO can be upgraded with a handlebar remote to incorporate an automatic brake-light and turn signals.

The FARO App

There is a great degree of functionality in the app that will let you personalize your helmet in every way and even measure & track what your riding does for the environment (as opposed to driving).

Perfect For Any Weather

Designed up to IPX6 waterproof rating. The electronics are fully sealed and the fabric – in case you were wondering – is the same fabric used on Bluetooth speakers.

The cycling revolution: SKULLY Smart Motorcycle Helmet

Smart-Motorcycle-Helmet

A car has space for smart devices and gadgets, but a motorcycle not so much. Where there’s space, it’s gotta count, and the helmet seems the perfect place for it.

Gadgets & motorcyclists can still potentially happen if the team behind the SKULLY concept have it their way: this is a next-gen smart helmet that does more than protecting the wearer, as it incorporates some of that technology that up until now didn’t seem compatible with bikes, such as rearview cameras and GPS navigation systems.

As of now, the SKULLY is looking to be funded at Indiegogo, where it has already raised the initial pledge of $250,000, and ready to start production. Still, it has 29 days to go, and many features that could possibly be added with more pledges.

Make no mistake: the SKULLY is no cheap toy, as the initial required pledge to actually receive one is $1399 USD, but it has plenty of features to justify that price. From the aforementioned GPS and rear-view cameras to software that allows hands-free calling, integrated audio (yes, on a motorcycle!) and Internet via pairing with your own phone, the SKULLY is meant to replace every other gadget you could possibly need while on the road. Check the video below these lines to learn more.
