Artist Creates Spaceballs Pizza the Hutt Toy Playset

Handcrafted in the style of vintage Kenner Star Wars toys, Retro Custom Art’s andytdesigns made this Spaceballs Pizza the Hutt action toy playset. Andy imagines the toy was made for a national Spaceballs x Pizza Hutt line of toys that were released to the public. I don’t know about you, but I need this in my life. In my office specifically, but only because I know my wife won’t allow it on my nightstand where it actually belongs.

Andy has also made several other custom Spaceballs action figures, most of which are available in his Etsy and eBay stores for around $50 – $75. Unfortunately, I didn’t see the Pizza the Hutt playset for sale (I dug deeper and found out he’s not selling it and only made it for an upcoming art show), which is a shame because that’s the one I wanted the most. Granted, I wouldn’t be able to afford it even if it was listed, but a boy can dream. I’m going to be a space ranger when I grow up!

I guess I’m left with no choice but to make my own. And if my version just so happens to be an actual piece of pizza with a pair of googly eyes stuck in the cheese, so be it. It’s not like my apartment doesn’t already have a rodent problem anyways.

Spaceballs: The LEGO Set

These days, it’s impossible to look back at the movies of the great Mel Brooks without somebody getting their panties in a bunch about their lack of political correctness. To that, I say, “lighten up.” Comedy is supposed to push boundaries, and poke fun at people’s sensitivities and societal norms. So that all said, Spaceballs is a comedy classic. Sure, it’s not on the level with Blazing Saddles and Young Frankenstein, but it’s loaded with memorable characters, quotable quotes, and is a great parody of movies like Star Wars.

Sadly, we never got all of the great merchandise suggested by the movie like Spaceballs: The T-shirt, Spaceballs: The Coloring Book, Spaceballs: The Lunchbox, and Spaceballs: The Breakfast Cereal, and Spaceballs: The Flamethrower, but we could soon get Spaceballs: The LEGO Set if you vote for this fan design on the LEGO Ideas crowdsourcing website.

Designed by LEGO fan Tom Bungee, the set’s main piece is a model of the Eagle 5, the space Winnebago piloted by Lone Starr and his furry sidekick Barf, who also appear in minifig form. In addition, you’ll get figures of Dark Helmet, Princess Vespa, Dot Matrix, Colonel Sandurz, and the wise and powerful Yogurt. Though I was hoping to get a minifig of Michael Winslow’s “The Bleeps, Sweeps, and the Creeps” guy and his ridiculously oversize Spaceballs helmet.

It’s not clear if the LEGO Eagle 5 can hit ludicrous speed as it does in the movie, but it does have lots of cool details both outside and in.

Like what you see? Then head over to the LEGO Ideas website and cast your vote today, and remember…

Spaceballs Props Head to Auction at Ludicrous Speed

I loved me some Mel Brooks films growing up; Blazing Saddles and Spaceballs were my favorites. Spaceballs was a hilarious mockery of the Star Wars franchise, and one of the most immediately recognizable characters from the film is Dark Helmet. Now, you’ve got a chance to own the actual Dark Helmet helmet that Rick Moranis worn on screen.

The Profiles in History auction #89 will be offering up the iconic, oversize helmet later this month. It’s a vacuum formed black shell attached to the insides of a hard hat and fitted for Moranis’ head. It is listed as having minor wear and age in vintage very good to fine condition and is expected to bring $8,000 to $12,000 at auction.

Also in the auction is the actual model of the Eagle 5 Winnebago piloted by Lone Starr and Barf (Bill Pullman and John Candy respectively). It is said to be highly detailed and in production used very fine condition. It is expected to fetch $20,000 to $30,000.

Spaceballs Eagle 5 LEGO Concept is Strangely Attractive

She may not look like much, she’s got secret hyper jets. LEGO Ideas member NvdK has been raising support for over a year now for a LEGO version of Eagle 5, the flying Winnebago from Spaceballs. This is what Yogurt was talking about.

Although it’s not in NvdK’s mockups, he imagines that the ship will come with a minifig of Captain Lone Starr armed with his Schwartz-saber. I wonder if LEGO will approve of that.

Have Snotty beam you down to LEGO Ideas and vote for the Eagle 5 concept. If you’re aligned to the down side of the Schwartz, check out NvdK’s LEGO Spaceball One concept, which naturally comes with two soldiers holding a giant comb.
