Biodegradable drone decomposes after crashing

Biodegradable drone 1

Meet the sneakiest drone on Earth, a drone capable of decomposing after being used and disappear without leaving a trace: the perfect spy gadget.

The UAV illustrating this story is quite something: a regular looking drone that is actually made from biodegradable materials that melt away into its surroundings once its life cycle is done. The idea is for it to disappear without leaving any trace, and for that reason the Ecovative Design team chose to build it out of a fungal material called mycelium, made sturdy by applying plant-based cellulose on it. Even the circuitry is organic, as it is made of silver nanoparticle ink, capable of biodegrading too.

The concept is simple: these drones can fly and go anywhere, but can dissapear almost instantly if they crash, without leaving any trace. As the creators explain, “no one would know if you’d spilled some sugar water or if there’d been an airplane there”.

The model still uses some non-biodegradable materials which haven’t been replaced yet: mainly the rotors, controls and battery, which they’ll either address in the future or forget entirely about them, because it’s not like anyone could recognize a drone just seeing those parts by themselves, right? Right?

Spy gadgets make a comeback with the camera that sees around corners

Camera corner

James Bond’s gadgets don’t look so outlandish anymore. This is a photo camera with an incredible feature: taking pictures and seeing around corners.

A group of researchers at Heriot-Watt University in Edinburgh came up with a weird idea that, surprisingly, works. It’s a camera that by using a form of super fast imaging, it can take pictures around corners. The basic premise is that a camera this fast captures individual photons moving with their detectors. When light finally arrives at the detector, these record where and at what time it arrives.

Jonathan Leach, a member group that developed the camera, explains that they don’t have any specific product applications just yet, so your privacy will be safe for a while longer. Still, the fact that this technology exists is pretty incredible on its own. You can learn more about it by checking the video below these lines.

Peek-i Turns the iPhone into a Spy Camera

Peak-I iPhone Camera Accessory

Spy cameras must have become a fetish, as there are many people who tremble with emotion at the idea of catching others in the act while doing something compromising. For those people, the Peek-i must be one of the best iPhone camera accessories ever invented.

Not few are the ones who fantasize about being James Bond, the modern Sherlock Holmes or Austin Powers. However, one of the abilities people must have in order to become a spy is seeing around the corners, or at least at very wicked angles compared to where the camera is pointed. The Peek-i iPhone camera accessory enables shooting at such angles, and thus, helps making dreams come true.

More precisely, Peek-i reflects images and enables iPhone’s camera to take pictures at a 90-degree angle. After attaching it to the iPhone with the help of an included magnet, the Peek-i can be rotated in any direction, not just to the left or to the right.

At the moment, Peek-i is featured on Indiegogo, as its developers thought that crowdfunding is the way to go. They set a $1,000 goal there, and at press time, it was beat by 2,235%. That’s quite a feat in the crowdfunding world, as other projects struggle to reach their goal. The small price of the Peek-i must have affected the performance of the campaign as it only costs $15. You also have the option to buy 2 such camera accessories for $25. There are plenty of other combo packs, so as long as you are willing to back the project, there’s an option for you.

The stickers also play a decorative role, so if you don’t want need the spy cam all the time, Peek-i is still useful somehow. Sticker packs can be bought separately for $5 a pack of 30, or you can get them with your Peek-i, assuming that you opted for a bigger combo pack.

One thing you should be careful about is the possibility of getting sued for taking pictures in areas where photographing is forbidden. Also, taking pictures of people without their permission is a bit wrong, so you might want to use this tiny gadget on your friends. After all, you don’t want to annoy the wrong kind of people with an iPhone camera accessory.

Pen-Sized Scanner is Your Very Own Spy Tool

If you’re a fan of James Bond movies or other flicks where spies have to sneak into someone’s office and take pictures of secret documents, you’ll love this new product from Hammacher Schlemmer. The gadget is called the Pen-Sized Scanner and it’s retro spy tech with a futuristic twist.

penscan

While it is actually a functional ballpoint pen, you can also use its integrated five-megapixel imaging sensor combined with an autofocus lens to snap close-up images of documents and other items whenever you want. The images are taken at a resolution of 2048 x 1536. When you press the shutter button down halfway, the pen camera even shoots a red laser outline around what it will be taking a picture of. That makes it easy to ensure that you are lining up the portion of the document you want to copy.

The camera pen has 1 GB of integrated storage allowing it to store up to 1000 pictures in JPEG format, though you can only capture about 300 images per battery charge. The pen also has a built-in microphone allowing you to record voice memos in WAV format. The Pen-Sized Scanner is available right now for $124.95(USD).

MirrorCase Shoots iPhone Video on the Sly

I’m sure that there are plenty of reasons why you’d want to video something secretly, whether it’s a business meeting or a something of a more personal nature. The MirrorCase definitely makes it easier to inconspicuously capture video or stills with your smartphone.

mirror case iphone

Normally, when you take pics or videos with your smartphone, your phone ends up right in your face. The MirrorCase was made so that you can record and snap pics without having to hold your phone up anymore. It does this by adding a small, angled mirror behind the iPhone’s camera lens. This simplifies self-recording, as well as recording lectures, seminars, and anything else you might want to record. It also functions as a neck rest or angled desk stand for your iPhone, and to redirect the LED flash forward so you can use it like a proper flashlight too.

There is a free companion app that properly flips images and recordings. It also allows you to put a different image on the camera screen while you’re recording, as a sort of privacy screen. The MirrorCase costs $49.95(USD) and is available for the iPhone 4/4S. There will be an iPad version available soon as well.
